No More 3.5KD Unlimited Deliveries with Carriage

Last night I got on Carriage and got a pop-up message saying I needed to choose a new Carriage Black plan. There was previously just one option, KD3.5 a month for unlimited deliveries which honestly a too good to be true price and I’ve saved a ton of money because of it. But recently Deliveroo stopped their free delivery promo so Carriage has now updated their Carriage Black pricing structure as well.

The new pricing isn’t bad at all since I order from Carriage daily. I’ll probably go with the KD7.5 a month plan since I rarely order from the grocery section and if I do it’s nothing good, usually chocolates which I should stop ordering anyway. But I will miss the old days when Deliveroo was free and unlimited deliveries on Carriage was just KD3.5 a month.

Carriage is such a reactive company. in a sense; how about you thoroughly study your clientele needs and the market’s trends/needs instead of focusing on competition, like seriously be original just a little.

It was 3.5KD for Carriage Black previously and for unlimited deliveries, which is what I am comparing to. Why are you comparing it to 60KD?

Because they doubled the price to KD7.5 which is still 53KD cheaper than what I was paying before they introduced Black. So they could triple the price or quadruple the price and I’d still be saving.

That’s exactly how logic and maths work

Before = 60KD
Current = 3.5KD (saving of 56.5KD)
Next = 9.5KD (saving of 50.5KD)

Where is your logic with the fact that saving 50kd not a good thing?

BEFORE THEY INTRODUCED CARRIAGE BLACK: 1KD for delivery
LATER ON / BEFORE: 3.5KD (unlimited delivery) with Carriage Black
NOW: 9.5KD (unlimited delivery) with Carriage Black

Where’s your logic Mark that you were paying 3.5KD per month for unlimited, but now you’ll be paying 6KD more? Why are you comparing it to regular 1KD delivery?

I don’t see how you are not getting this? I mean it’s simple maths. Let me break it down to you in as simple terms as possible, if you don’t get it after this I really can’t help you.

Before carriage black it was KD1 per delivery and I was paying around 60kd a month just as delivery charges. Deliveroo introduced free delivery so Carriage countered with Carriage Black where for 3.5KD a month you don’t pay any delivery fees. I started saving 50+ kd a month (this is a good thing).
Deliveroo stopped their free deliveries so carriage increased their price from 3.5 to 9.5kd. and increase of 7KD but still a saving of 50+ kd a month for me (again this is a good thing). Carriage could have scrapped their whole Black service but they didn’t so as long as they offer it at any rate less than 60kd I will be saving money.

Do you get it now? sheeesh!

……….how? They had ALREADY introduced Carriage Black before for 3.5KD for unlimited deliveries and now they have changed it to ONLY 5 deliveries (0.7KD per delivery) and introduced a new subscription for 7.5KD and 9.5KD.

The new 9.5KD subscription was the 3.5KD one previously. So it’s a direct 6KD increase in prices.

You remember when Viva came to Kuwait and incoming calls became free for all network providers? I can’t remember how much it cost but let’s say it cost 40 fils per minute for incoming.

Now if all the network providers start charging 20 fils for incoming, will you say that ohhhhh, we are still saving 20 fils per minute because it used to be 40 fils?

You can think what you want and it doesn’t really matter honestly. I’m saving a shitload of money with Black so that’s all I care about ✌🏻

Excellent point, value is relative and Mark shouldn’t try to bull you. If an HD TV cost $2000 when it came out, it doesn’t mean you are saving $1700 by buying the same TV for $300 today.

‘blah’ is completely right. If an internet plan cost you 45KD/month, and the price went down to 10KD, and then raised back to 25KD months later, I wouldn’t be happy and be like “oh but i’m saving 20KD”

If it was a temporary offer you would be. I can’t believe people are still arguing this. 3.5KD unlimited was created to compete with Deliveroo’s free offer. That’s it.

Mark means that previously he used to order with Carriage around 60 times per month, hence, it would cost around 60 KD just as delivery charges (1 KD per delivery). Now, under the new plan, if he were to make the same 60 orders, he’d still pay only 9.5 KD, thereby saving 50+ KD just for delivery, in comparison to the 60 KD he was paying earlier.

I don’t know if you are being a troll or what but he explained it in a simple way.

He used to order food worth delivery of 60 KD ( 2wice a Day for 1 month ) so definitely this is a great deal for someone like mark who orders a lot from Carriage.

Be smart.

Carriage can deliver absolutely for free and Id still use Deliveroo. Even for groceries, id rather use the new Tons app.

Yep. I’ve had some of the worst customer service experiences with Carriage, their responses always tend to blame the restaurants and they put nearly no effort in resolving issues. They should really study how Deliveroo deal with restaurants and customers and strive for that instead of trying to find more ways to improve their business model.

By “Food & Groceries” they mean “Restaurants & Groceries”. You might need to go with the 9.5KD plan, no? Unless you already took that into consideration.

or even better, how about for KD1 more per month we can sign up to a premium customer support membership package which entitles members to skip the long customer service queues!

They increased the package price for unlimited free deliveries 171%, one hundred and seventy one percent! Let that sink in

Mark are you sponsored by Carriage? It was a greedy business decision no matter which way you flip it. Customers don’t benefit from price hikes.

A company should strive to always do better deals for its customers (Customer driven) and not only Compititive driven. Which is sad tbh

When I saw Deliveroo start charging for their delivery I thought Carriage would stop their Carriage Black service. Thankfully they just increased their prices. It’s more expensive but better than 1kd per delivery. For this reason I’ll stick to Carriage subscription over Deliveroo. Per delivery charge is too expensive for daily users and would’ve had me using Talabat or something.

“Per delivery charge is too expensive for daily users and would’ve had me using Talabat or something.”
Is that a bad thing to use Talabat or something….?????
what is carriage or deliveroo giving more then Talabat in terms of food ?

Carriage and Deliveroo has many restaurants that aren’t available on Talabat. Also Talabat has area restrictions while Carriage doesn’t.

Anybody who orders regularly from carriage or Deliveroo for that matter was very aware that this was a temporary strategy to grab/maintain market share. Did anybody honestly think that Deliveroo were going to indefinitely offer free delivery or that carriage would provide unlimited deliveries for 3.5kd a month?

As mark said, you look at it in how much it is saving for you. The regular price for “premium” delivery services is 1kd. If you order more than 9 times a month it means you are saving. Is it cheaper than 3.5kd? Obviously not, but that price isn’t available anymore. Had Deliveroo made all their deliveries cost 0.25kd I’m sure carriage would have had a different pricing structure. That’s how competition works.

Take it to the extreme and assume you are only ordering straight from restaurants and not through an intermediary. As per the ministry regulations deliveries within an area cost 0.25kd so if you were to order once a day that would still cost 7.5kd with extremely limited services and choice.

Mark is coming at it from the perspective of a heavy user with all other similar options being more expensive without factoring in variety and service.

Don’t be obtuse, we are all aware 3.5kd is cheaper than 9.5kd but given the current situation it’s much better value than the available alternatives.

Carriage was a great alternative to talabat. Drivers, tracking, etc. Then came deliveroo and everything got better. Free delivery, no min order, tracking drivers, part refunds on delayed orders, etc. Then deliveroo decided to charge for delivery from last week

I switched last week to Carriage and ordered just one sandwich from a restaurant 500mtrs away. After a 1 hr delay, I tried reaching support and I reached some outsourced Egyptian call Centre (not being a native Arabic speaker, i can’t be sure) I called 15 times until I got a bilingual person. The 1st 14 ppl told me to call in the morning as they don’t understand English! Anyway got my cold sandwich after 2.5 hrs and never heard back from carriage on the experience. I switched back to deliveroo in a jiffy. Carriage sucks point blank.

How do you get any of the big 3 delivery companies to bring the food to your actual door rather than keep calling you from the street expecting you to go out to the road? Only a few drivers ever do!

That’s actually an issue to the drivers themselves and I very much sympathize with them. You should hear the ugly stories of how different people have different ideas of what “house boundaies” are and where the driver shouldn’t cross the line. Some would allow getting all the way to bedrooms maybe and others want the driver to be sitting in their cars until someone get to them.

3.5 to 9.5 is a HUGE PRICE HIKE.

Sorry. NOT subscribing again, and even more reasons to limit my usage of the App.

Whatever happened to eating out and having a social life outside your mancave?

So if your monthly spend on Carriage for delivery is KD30, you would rather pay that then KD9.5? Am I missing something here? Does everyone have a money tree in their backyard?

what if you aint a heavy user and just order once or twice a week.
thats 8 KD. (2 times every week for 4 weeks)
still lesser than 9.5 KD
so for most most people, i believe this is just high.

If you aren’t a heavy user the unlimited plan doesn’t make sense. It only makes financial sense if you order from them once or twice a day like I do

Deliveroo will definitely inplement their subscription service just like Carriage. In the UK, they have Deliveroo Plus which is £7.99 (around KD3.120) for unlimited deliveries. Just a matter of time.

It has to be cheap than that if they want to avoid Talabat and Carriage creaming them (though as I indicated above, I think Deliveroo is way more superior than Carriage). No reason for an expensive plan. Wages, fuel, taxes and vehicles are cheaper than any part of the world. Let’s see what they do.

Mark, you’re the outlier here.

For the majority, it would not make sense from a economic or physiological perspective to order food for restaurants where the charges for delivery only amount to KD 60/month.

In addition, it would appear that you are sticking up for a company that most of your readers (myself included) have had terrible experiences with.

I understand that there may be the occasional error/delay but every order I’ve placed has been significantly delayed to the point that I don’t bother ordering hot food anymore. The last time I used Carriage was to order doughnuts which were supposed to be delivered in 30 mins and took 2.5 hours. Now I use their app to check out menu’s.

9 KD can still make sense one way or another depending on your usage, but that current 3.5 KD for 5 deliveries is just weird. I can’t help but think that the only reason that 3.5 KD deal exists is to make some money out of those who don’t want to bother going online to cancel it or don’t know ho wot do so..or maybe they just don’t care about the amount.
