Vol.1 and More Opening in Shuwaikh

mayar

If the fact that Healthy Feast and Arabica opening in Shuwaikh wasn’t enough to convince you it’s the next up and coming area, I found out last week that Vol.1 is also opening in Shuwaikh.

There is a new complex that will be completed in a couple of months time called Mayar which is owned by Zaleej Real Estate Company, the same company that owns Lilly Center where Pick Yo and Caribou Coffee are located down the street. The complex will house different businesses ranging from coffee shops and restaurants to flower shops, electronics shops, fashion stores and health clubs. Some of the confirmed places opening up there are Vol.1, Urban Cafe, Brothers Burger, Melenzane, November Bakery, Aya Coco, Brown Boutique, Modish and Tiny Socks. If you work in the area and are hoping for a Vol.1 morning caffeine boost don’t get excited just yet since they’re hoping to open after summer in around October/November.

Here is the location of Mayyar Complex on [Google Maps]

two homemade fried eggs with a plate of tomatoes and cucumbers and some lebanese bread is better than all these restaurants can offer

I work in Shuwaikh, and I think companies like Zaleej Real Estate Company are doing a great job at providing Community facilities. For instance, by opening up these restaurants, my colleagues and I can literally WALK to Lily center (EVEN in real HOT HOT HOT SUMMER, I’m not lying) to get our lunch, as the pros are large.
First of all this reduces my time in and out of Shuwaikh (and we all know how traffic can get during peak times aka lunch time aka ministry leaving time). Not only that, I am reducing having a small walk away from my desk that permits me a change of mindset/scenario by connecting me outdoors ( yaay health), but most importantly (imho) this is beneficial as I am NOT using my car and in turn I am reducing another additional car( had I or my colleague ordered food) from various delivery services; Who btw do not need to enter Shuwaikh and make the already crowded Shuwaikh more toxic.
Furthermore by opening up places like Mayar, they’re adding more variety to the path they’ve chosen, aka more healthy restaurants, new walkways for change, and now I can walk to get cake for office parties!! (Tilal was a bit far :D) So kudos to them. Comparatively ,this is long done in UK Business centers like London, where employees have short lunch breaks and prefer to step out of their office to places like pick that promote healthy lifestyles outside of their already busy/stressed work environment.
All these Community – service retail in Shuwaikh,. for eg. convenience store (CITY CENTER), Farmers markets are encouraged that promote local craft, healthy restaurants (pick, C burger, diet center), health and fitness places ,(@Tilal, Shuwaikh market as well as Mayar and Lily center) al shaya with their staff stores, We even have a huge bridal store in Shuwaikh( cuz we so fabulous LOL) so this means I have an option to avoid malls, We have car washes, …..we have a lot which means good on Shuwaikh and these ‘companies’ for all these opportunities they’re creating which I can QUITE LITERALLY WALK to (no more obsese Kuwait?? SAYWHAT??! )
However while all this sounds great, I would like to focus on the TRAFFIC that these places have created for people who work in Shuwaikh since long (I’m sure there is someone out there..right??) With the opening of Sparks and Shuwaikh Market and Lily Center, these places have thought very little about the number of people they’re attracting OUT OF SHUWAIKH! No doubt, all this makes “night dead” Shuwaikh lively, however, during most of the day time, these places make it a nightmare (OUTSTANDINGLY AT 7-8AM, 12- 2 PM and 5 PM).
Ultimate solution from my limited experience could be,
1. Provide sustainable options like provide motor-bike parking maybe??, fitness places/gyms ESPECIALLY NEAR SHUWAIKH MARKET should encourage people to park at city center and walk and call it warm up 😀
2. Not too happy about providing huge space for car park, instead should have provided basement parking DURING construction.
3. Carpooling SHOULD BE encouraged in shuwaikh, however these “companies” should provide covered walkways around their areas as a way to enourage people to walk and park a bit far..i sure as hell recommend mayar to make a covered walk way from city center to their location.
4. ? help a brother out…

Holy wall of text! Jokes aside, you raise a good point.

I also work near Shuwaikh, and its much easier to grab a quick lunch now than its been a few years ago. And its a bitch having to wait for Talabat which can easily take almost 2 hours in peak traffic times. I am all for diverse businesses opening in Shuwaikh to make it easier for us to travel around.

Now if only we can figure out what in the name of God is managing that awful construction project on the other side of Lily Center…that place has been a shithole for construction vehicles for the past five years at least. And, it makes walking a nightmare. I honestly think more people would be able to walk if they didn’t feel they might get run over at any given moment.
