15 Years of The Avenues

The Avenues mall opened in Kuwait back in April 2007, 15 years ago! I was looking back through my old posts and I think IKEA actually opened there at the end of 2006, before the rest of the mall was open since I posted about my first visit to it.

Over the years Avenues kept expanding and growing to become one of the coolest malls in the region and even the world. It’s one of my favorite places in Kuwait.

I remember when 2nd Avenue was still being built, and the food court was in the same place Fantasy World is in now. I also remember when Office Depot used to be there, but that was after 2007.

Wow 15 years of buying stuff we don’t need and running into people we’ don’t want to see 😂😂

I don’t know what I would do in Kuwait if there was no Avenues! I just like to go and chill even if I am not buying anything.

the mall is like any Airline targeted to all class of audience:

Phase 1 & 2- Economic Class
Phase 3 & 4- Business Class
Grand Avenues- 1st Class

Welcome abroad!

I think the Avenues are Grand but  still come up short to holding a candle to the One & Only Kuwaiti Champs Elysees, Salem Mubarak High Street on the eve of the Iraqi invasion. I mean the vibe there used to be electric and galvanizing. Also the thought of having high voltage transmission cables and pylons sat next to the Avenues on the 5th ring  road motorway does not exactly sit well for some of us from a health safety point of view. Yes but other than that, it’s totally rad.

and remember when the only restaurants were upstairs next to the cinema … TGIF, Pizza Express, etc used to be packed and very shops were even open in Phase 1 … Ikea and maybe Marlboro LMAO

Phase 2 opened after I believe which is why the food court was in a different location at first. I remember going to the Harvey Nichols opening back before Phase 3 was complete and I remember being in awe at how beautiful Phase 3 looked.

The first phase initially was till and including Bodyshop near Carrefour. Then the second phase was till the Starbucks next to Texas Road House. There were Sarai, Totally Fish nearby. A fountain also cam up in front of these stores They demolished all that and built phase 3. And as mentioned by ” the Other Ahmed” in the first comment, the food court was in the place where Fantasy world is currently located. There was The Office Depot next to Fantasy World. I guess its Next there now.

fountain? damn i don’t remember that. but thinking about it now someone should put together a complication of the best avenues fights and stabbings videos of the past 15 years.
