Al Jazeera to show some World Cup matches for free

If you haven’t subscribed to the World Cup package don’t worry, you will still be able to watch the opening ceremony, the first match and the final game of the tournament for free.

All rights holders will have to air the opening ceremony, the first match on June 11 (South Africa v Mexico) and the final on July 11 free. That’s part of an agreement with FIFA, but Al Jazeera Sport may go a step further and telecast for free the semi-finals as well.

I haven’t subscribed to the World Cup package simply because I am at work from 9 to 7 on a good day and then I’ve got gym afterward so by the time I am home in front of the TV I would have other things I would prefer to do. Anyway here is the link to the [Article]

Well I am sure the people who subscribed actually want to watch more than 2 games. The quarter and semi finals are as important as the final games.

The only thing you need is the espn fifa world cup app in the app store.
For 8$ you get video highlights of every game including the goals and live streming (audio commentary) for every game. Perfect for those studying for their finals such as myself :p The app is free but you need to upgrade for video and audio.

The right to watch the games for free is something the whole world takes for granted

only the greedy people at ART before and now Jazeera are charging us money for this right. We should be furious and demand all the games for free and charge only for stupid gimmicky channels in 3D an HD

Katukoa,

I agree!

In the UK the WC is classed as a crown Jewel, so by law it has to be shown on Free to Air channels such as the BBC and ITV. Others include the Olympics, Wimbledon and the FA cup.

Worldwide events such as the WC should be available for everyone. TV companies make enough from Ad revenues anyway

The Middle East and the Gulf in particular, is one of the few regions in the world where you will have to pay to watch the World Cup. If you don’t have the package from Al Jazeera, here are some of the places you can go to watch it for free:

Albania, Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan

Bangladesh, Belarus, Belgium, Bolivia, Bosnia, Brazil, Bulgaria

Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic

Denmark

Ecuador, El Salvador, Estonia

Fiji, Finland, France

Georgia, Germany, Greece, Germany

Hong Kong

Iceland, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Italy

Japan

Kosovo

Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg

Macau, Macedonia, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Mongolia, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro

Netherlands, Nepal, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway

Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Puerto Rico

Romania, Russia

San Marino, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland

Thailand

Ukraine, UK, USA

Vietnam, Vatican City, Venezuela

PLUS ALL AFRICA AND INDIAN SUB CONTINENT COUNTRIES

lets see if I am permanently banned cause of the Lebanese flag or just on that post .. πŸ˜›

Actually this is the 2nd time they do this ,they did in the african cup of nations 2010 ! they let people subscribe for a very high fee this time it was around 100$ for only 1 month ! and collect huge sums of money from these subscriptions and then 2 days before the cup they decide to show it for free so that they would get more viewers this way and hence more ads and as a result more money πŸ˜€ Actually for me they have lost their credibility im never gonna subscribe for al jazeera again. id rather get a dreambox or wutever and watch for free and they are encouraging me to do so this way.
