Hardcore Censorship

cencored buddha

Virgin Megastore is open again and I think this time around they are taking censorship to the extreme. I think thats what I would do if I was them, I would want to show people how ridiculous censorship can be. The CD cover above is of the Buddha-bar CD, they’ve censored the Buddha’s face!

update: I have been told censoring the Buddha is not something new.

Mark actually thats not new. the same thing happens at Virgin in Dubai. All Budhha bar cds have that black circle covering the budhha’s face. its been going on since all virgin’s opened up in the gulf πŸ™‚

That’s because you came in today with a negative mentality, you didn’t appreciate the re-opening, you just focused on the negativity that came with closing it, young grassmarkhopper.

Byoda out!

isnt that buddha on your header advertisement, the mansoon thing?!
*calling the minister of.. (i dont know)*

yeah that cd had already been censored like that, always thought it was ridiculous. I went in today to buy a music dvd but they’ve cleared them all out except for 2 dvds by the 2 tenors and el nino – they said the MOI had removed all other music dvds, obviously anything that isn’t crap in this country is haram. crazy

I don’t even bother caring anymore. Let them censor everything, It’s not like there’s any thing good in Virgin. Al Na’9aa2r and IVC have som many better products. I bought Mariah Carey’s Re-Release of The Emancipation Of Mimi in April 2006 from IVC for 7.750 KD it was a good price since it was a CD/DVD Combo. It wasn’t available at Virgin until September and it was around 9.500 KD.

I remember at one stage the Buddha collection was banned. Either that or the guy in virgin was using it as an excuse.

These islamic imbisiles are being given too much face.
This is their attempt to cover the eyes of the public, controlling what everyone is exposed to, in order to fool everyone with their properganda.
For them, the more ignorant the public is, the more easier it is for them to control. IGNORANCE IS THEIR WEAPON.(IN THE FORM OF CENSORSHIP).

WHY DO YOU THINK THEY CONCENTRATE ON ISLAMIC BOOK FAIRS?? AFFRAID OF THE UNCONVENIENT TRUTH!! AFFRAID OF CONTRADICTIONS THROUGHOUT THEIR TWISTED TEACHINGS.

OMG its just a buddah for gods sake !!

theyr trying to make kuwait like ksa, dont they realise that its not possible !?
i hate the way its changing, were supposed to be changing for the best not for the worst !

i love buddha bar cd’s … the funny thing is that in the same mall ..if u go to THE ONE furniture store u will find a full statue of buddha that u can buy for 40 KD or something not a cd cover !!!!

Ra-1 because it ruins the picture and serves a useless purpose.

If you want me to remove the picture of the brownie which you shot and I gave you credit for I can remove it I don’t have a problem.

if it got stolen and published in a magazine then it means they took a higher quality picture from your flickr account and then cropped the photo. The photos on my blog are only 400pixels wide and 72 dpi which means they cant be used in magazines.

Because idolatry is impermissible in Islam, and anything that implies it is therefore impermissible by association. In fact, idolatry/polytheism is the single gravest sin according to our religion.

Shirk: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shirk_%28polytheism%29

That being said, Buddhism itself is not an idolatrous religion. Buddhism doesn’t teach any concept of God whatsoever, it’s more of an atheistic religion. So the problem isn’t with Buddhism itself, the problem is with the statue of the Buddha. The same thing would apply to a statue of Jesus (pbuh).

I can understand why this may seem weird to non-Muslims, but to claim to be a Muslim and yet disapprove of this is pretty ridiculous and irrational. A “Muslim,” by definition, is a person who submits to the will of God. Obviously, someone who selectively accepts parts of Islam while rejecting others doesn’t fit the definition. I doubt a 1400 year old book preserved word for word, letter for letter will change to conform to anyone’s beliefs.

As for the respected poster who disapproved of the “Islamic imbisiles” and the poster who declared him president, I guarantee you you would end up with a population of militants coming to displace you the very next day :D. Do you think this is Algeria? I have no idea how people like you manage to miss the fact that the vast majority of Kuwaitis are an inherently conservative and religious people. Don’t judge Kuwait by what you see at your average mall. Instead, pay a visit to any mosque in Kuwait. None of those people will sit for full-blown secularism. In fact, I’d even go as far as saying that the only reason that Al-Sabah ruling family managed to keep their position is because they struck a fine balance between Islamism and secularism.

“These islamic imbisiles are being given too much face.

OK, please explain how an image of Buddha is supposed to supposed to: a)Decrease ignorance. 2)Aid the Islamists with their propaganda. I would love to see this.

“WHY DO YOU THINK THEY CONCENTRATE ON ISLAMIC BOOK FAIRS?? AFFRAID OF THE UNCONVENIENT TRUTH!! AFFRAID OF CONTRADICTIONS THROUGHOUT THEIR TWISTED TEACHINGS.”

What exactly are you trying to say? Are you aware that certain books authored by some of the most prominent contemporary Islamic scholars were recently banned from a book fair in Kuwait?

As for the “unconvenient truth” and the “contradictions throughout their twisted teachings,” point a single one out and I’ll see what I can do.

Dammit!!! I was planning to go have my weekly Bhudda worshiping session at Virgin, but now that the face is blocked, I’d have to order those CD’s from Amazon and commence my Bhudda worshiping ritual!

Screw Kuwait!
What the Fuck!
I really don’t get it…here Kuwait wants to become like Kuwait…but is doing shit like KSA…not far before we see women walking around in complete covered bodies…glad I’m getting out of here in one year…
It’s the Buddha! Why is there a problem with the Buddha!?

Dear Monotheist,
It seems that i have hit a nerve since you have posted twice on what i have written, which implies that there is some truth to what i wrote.
I repeat the that the islamic thugs have always and will always use censorship to limit peoples exposure to any thing other than what these islamo-freaks want u to believe. IT IS WELL KNOWN THAT THE SPREAD AND MAINTANANCE OF IGNORANCE IN SOCIETY IN ORDER FOR THEM TO SELL THEIR BULLSHIT.
THIS THUGGERY AND BULLYING IS ALSO EVIDENT IN WHAT YOU WRITE.. ” I guarantee you you would end up with a population of militants coming to displace you the very next day “.
AND ABOUT THE CENSORSHIP AT ISLAMIC BOOK FAIRS, I THANK YOU, SINCE YOU POINTED IT OUT YOURSELF WHEN YOU WROTE; “Are you aware that certain books authored by some of the most prominent contemporary Islamic scholars were recently banned from a book fair in Kuwait?”.. YES, I AM AWARE, THATS STRENGTHENS MY ARGUEMENT..ASK YOURSELF WHY THEY ARE BANNED..FULL OF CONTRIDICTION, WHICH CONTRADICTS THE THUGS VERSION OF THE ISLAMIC TEACHINGS , WHIC INFRINGE ON OUR LIBERTIES!!
MAY I SUGGEST THAT U TAKE YOUR VILE, NARROW-MINDED CARCASS TO SAUDI ARABIA, IM SURE THEY WOULD WELCOME YOU THERE WITH OPEN ARMS.

BY THE WAY, I BELIEVE THAT THE ISLAMIC CENSORSHIP WILL GET WORSE BEFORE IT GETS BETTER..
The letter “X” soon may be banned in Saudi Arabia because it resembles the mother of all banned religious symbols in the oil kingdom: the cross.

The new development came with the issuing of another mind-bending fatwa, or religious edict, by the infamous Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice β€” the group of senior Islamic clergy that reigns supreme on all legal, civil, and governance matters in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The commission’s damning of the letter “X” came in response to a Ministry of Trade query about whether it should grant trademark protection to a Saudi businessman for a new service carrying the English name “Explorer.”

“No! Nein! Nyet!” was the commission’s categorical answer.

Why?

Well, never mind that none of the so-called scholars manning the upper ranks of the religious outfit can speak or read a word of English. But their experts who examined the English word “explorer” were struck by how suspicious that “X” appeared. In a kingdom where Friday preachers routinely refer to Christians as pigs and infidel crusaders, even a twisted cross ranks as an abomination.

So after waiting a year, the Saudi businessman, Amru Mohammad Faisal, got his answer: No. But, like so many other Saudi businessmen who suffer from the travesties of the commission, he seemed more baffled than angry. He wrote letters to Saudi newspapers to criticize the cockamamie logic. An article he wrote appeared with his photograph on some Arabian Web sites. It sarcastically invited the commission to expand its edict to the “plus” sign in mathematics and accounting, in order “to prevent filthy Christian conspiracies from infiltrating our thoughts, our beliefs, and our feelings.”

THIS IS WHAT KIND OF NARROW MINDED THUGS WE ARE TALKING ABOUT. ISLAMO-FASCISM!

This is why we are considered third world. Because we are simply stupid when it comes to censorship. Personally I think the guy from the Ministry of Communication should be arrested and charged for interfering in freedom of speech. I have never been so embarassed of being a kuwaiti as I am today.

Go ahead with renaming it “sharmootah megastore”, it has a nice ring to it πŸ™‚

Dudes, i’ve become insensitive to the dumbass censorship in Q8… it’s just too stupid to waste out time worrying about it.

“Dear Monotheist,
It seems that i have hit a nerve since you have posted twice on what i have written, which implies that there is some truth to what i wrote.”
Not necessarily. The more reasonable thing to deduct from my posting twice is that I’ve missed something in my first post, which is clearly the case. What does indicate that a nerve has been struck, however, is when a person types in caps for the better part of a post. Childish insults also imply extreme, foaming at the mouth frustration. For an example of this, refer last part of your post.

“I repeat the that the islamic thugs have always and will always use censorship to limit peoples exposure to any thing other than what these islamo-freaks want u to believe. IT IS WELL KNOWN THAT THE SPREAD AND MAINTANANCE OF IGNORANCE IN SOCIETY IN ORDER FOR THEM TO SELL THEIR BULLSHIT.”
And you derived all of this from the fact that Buddha’s face has been censored? Wow, this is the reasoning of a tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorist. I’m sure you can do better than that. Perhaps some sort of evidence would be a good start. How exactly is censoring an image of Buddha supposed to help the Islamists sell their propaganda?

“THIS THUGGERY AND BULLYING IS ALSO EVIDENT IN WHAT YOU WRITE.. ” I guarantee you you would end up with a population of militants coming to displace you the very next day β€œ.”
So an armed resistance is “thuggery and bullying”? Since when? People are free to fight for what they believe in when they’re the majority. Basically, what you really meant to say is “Either people accept my liberal secularism, or I’ll label them as thugs and bullies.” How freedom-loving of you.
I’d like to hear your opinion on what’s currently going on in Turkey. If you think that the above is an exercise in “thuggery and bullying,” what do you have to say about the Turkish secularists who are threatening with military intervention (coup d’Γ‰tat) in case an Islamist wins the elections?

“AND ABOUT THE CENSORSHIP AT ISLAMIC BOOK FAIRS, I THANK YOU, SINCE YOU POINTED IT OUT YOURSELF WHEN YOU WROTE; β€œAre you aware that certain books authored by some of the most prominent contemporary Islamic scholars were recently banned from a book fair in Kuwait?”.. So in other words, the teachings of Saudi scholar thugs contradicts the teachings of their Kuwaiti counterparts? I’m not sure I’m following. Maybe an example would help elaborate on your “argument.” How do these banned books contradict the teachings of these thugs?

“MAY I SUGGEST THAT U TAKE YOUR VILE, NARROW-MINDED CARCASS TO SAUDI ARABIA, IM SURE THEY WOULD WELCOME YOU THERE WITH OPEN ARMS.”
lol! Where are your manners, o benchmark-for-humanity-setting liberal secularist? How “civilized” of you. It’s pretty funny how your post began with “Dear Monotheist” and ended with this. What a disgruntled little islamophobe.

So Virgin Megastore covers the budha face on the cd’s while there is the Budha Bar in Dubai with a 5meter high Budha statue displayed in the center restaurant area..beautiful

Many who met Ibn Baaz loved him for his noble character, simplicity and generosity. Despite the high positions he held during his lifetime, he lived a very simple life and spent most of his wealth on education and charity.

Flat earth allegations

Ibn Baaz is best known in the West from a report claiming he issued a fatwa (pronouncement regarding sharia law) declaring: “The earth is flat. Whoever claims it is round is an atheist deserving of punishment.”[2] Ibn Baaz described this flat earth-report as “a pure lie”[3]. Several muslim leaders argued that, in fact, he maintained not that the earth is flat but that it is a stationary globe that the sun and moon revolve around, using Quranic literalism as evidence. (Discussion of the issues can be found in Islam and flat-earth theories).

The older sense of the term Obscurantism refers to a class of philosophies that favor limits on the extension and dissemination of scientific knowledge, believing it to be the enemy of religious faith. Obscurantists are by definition atheists or agnostics themselves, but believe that some form of religion or superstition among the masses is necessary for a stable society, and thus seek to limit to a select few the awareness of evidence that counters common belief.
Obscurantism in this sense is both anti-intellectual and elitist, as well as fundamentally anti-democratic, as it considers the people unworthy of truth. Though often associated with religious fundamentalism, Obscurantism is a distinct strain of thought: Fundamentalism presupposes a sincere belief in religion, while Obscurantism rests on the deliberate manipulation of faith by an enlightened few.

way to go Monotheist. Its about time someone came up with decent reasoning, unlike that of financy -> this is kuwait, live with it.

This blog needs more of you and less of these blindfolded imitators.
