Golf in Kuwait

CNN has two videos on golf in Kuwait. The first video talks about how golf came about in Kuwait and the Golf Me store located in Muthana. The second video is about the Sahara Country Club and the rising stars of golf in Kuwait. Here are the links to the videos:

I play at the Kuwait International Golf Course on Wafra Rd where the International Animal Hospital is. that place is going to blow Sahara away if the Ministry would stop screwing with the owner. The 7th and 8th hole is a bitch! If you want some exercise play there because it is only a walking course right now until the other additional 18 holes are completed.

No offense, but it looks to be all show and no go… ‘cuz CNN is in town. My wife golfs 27-36 holes at the Sahara everyday, and she can’t ever remember seeing a Kuwaiti or Arab on the links – she also golfs in Dubai often and it’s similar. It’s mostly Westerners, Koreans and Japanese and a few South Asians. I’ve found the Kuwaitis in the main swimming pool, which is where I like to hang out. It’s about lounging and snacking for the local members, which is cool with me because that’s what I like too. For hobbies I think most Arabs like more active pursuits than golf, which is a bit boring to me. Dune buggies, explosions, falcons, horses, etc… aggressive stuff. In the 2nd video one of the Kuwaiti parents states there is only one grass course in Kuwait. Someone who’s interested in golf would know there are two; the second being the one Longhorn In Kuwait mentioned. I think this one is doomed because it has none of the non-golf facilities that Kuwaitis want – the “clubhouse” is an upscale shipping container. The course also faces a huge problem in that the gov’t wants it to stop using generators and pay to bring the electrical transmission towers to the area. No generator means no water which results in no grass.

Anyway, if there was genuine demand for golf in Kuwait there would be more courses. Greater demand often results in more supply, unless monopolistic control is in effect. It’s simple economics.

If you take a look at the website for KIGC it will look really nice once the Ministry stops “F”ing with the foreign female owner. It has taken her like 5 years or something like that just to get to where her course is now. Her former husband is Kuwaiti and they had 2 kids. There are even articles in the Arab/Kuwait Times telling the story of her fight with Kuwaiti’s and the Ministry because she is a woman/foreigner owning land in Kuwait. She taking in more money now weekly thanks to the U.S. military!

Golf is sooooo boring to watch AND to play. We need a Kuwaiti Tiger Woods, complete with the affairs and marriage problems to make it more exciting LMAO.

I thought affairs and marriage problems are typical for majority of the Kuwaiti’s! Give the Kuwaiti Tiger Woods more of a challenge, LOL!
