A reader sent me a link to this video of an accident that took place on the Gulf Road sometime last month. I’m not sure what the cause was and I really hope no one got badly hurt. The video doesn’t contain anything graphic but it’s might be difficult for some viewers to watch. [YouTube]

the footage starts off looking very surreal like from a movie which confused me at first to what I was watching.
Is there a weird distortion to the footage, or am Imagining things? lol
It clearly is a mobile phone footage, but how on earth did he stay so still? There was no shaking/vibrating… is it some video processing software? Looks almost like its being shot on a tripod.
youtube could do that..not sure if he used it tho’ probably a skilled person
I think it could be a software stabilization which is why the video seems warped and distorted in some bits
or that.. yup!

it is a Sony Digital camer 12.5MP. not a phone and not an i par or so.
i use this camera for underwater filming. no tripod but my stedy hands
the footage is definitely warped but the effect is kinda cool, kinda like a focused movie cam lol

this is probably the most surreal mobile footage I’ve ever seen. Add a couple of traumatizing quotes about how short life is and you’ve got a campaign advertisement!
Two things I noticed….the car fires were apparently out, which takes some time – absolutely no fire/rescue or police seemed to be in the vicinity? Couldn’t even hear any sirens in the distance indicating they were trying to make their way through the traffic.
And two, the sheer NUMBER of people just stopping to gawk – at one point there is a boy, maybe about 12 or so, that is just peaking his head in and around. By stopping (on the other side of the road specifically), they are making traffic worse than it already is, and probably are pi$$ing someone off, who will then drive like a crazy person and cause another accident.
This nothing compared to the gulf road accident where a Hummer rammed over a car that caught fire and burned the people inside.

Yup, Mark.. and here’s the hardest part… It was a couple and the wife was pregnant. The couple left a daughter who luckily wasn’t there at the time of the accident.
And the guy who drove the hummer is a teenager who apparently got away.

well, this idiot who filmed that video is trying to creating awarness for people like you.
to help people you have to be certified and to be a first aid provider. That stupidity you saw on the tape carrying injured people might cause permanet disability for someone who could have only a broken bone, this is not something you can be aware off (guess you are one of those heros).
used my fire extinguishe, facilitated trafic circulation, filmed that movie so people would be more consience.
what would you do?
I agree about the moving of injured people – unless they are in immediate danger (like the car is burning), accident victims should be left where they are. If they have a broken back or neck, you could literally kill them by moving them. If they have punctured lungs or other internal issues not visibly noticeable, you could cause shifting/moving of organs that could cause further damage.
The best thing to do is to talk to the victims, keep them coherent, and reassure them (hold their hand if you can – skin-to-skin contact is very calming in an extreme situation).
Out of curiosity how could you educate people on that? I’m not sure how I know you shouldn’t move the body, I guess from tv’s or movies but what other way is there to teach this to the mass?
I learned that in my drivers’ safety course way back (way, way back!!) in high school. Perhaps the implementation of a comprehensive drivers’ safety course in all high schools in Kuwait would be a possible solution. It wouldn’t have to start as thorough as a full course, but perhaps a series of required lectures given throughout the school year.
Actually, I know this from the 2-3 hour theory class – that I had to go through in order to get my driving lesson here in Kuwait. This was about 15 years back, and I remember the class was held in Shuwaikh.

My Dear, you do well on the test you still fail it, you have a wasta you pass it. so you are wondering how does people get their licences? too bad… the one who ever does a wasta to someone to pass teh test, is not aware that this person could do harm to him or to any of his family members indirectly when on the roads.

The video looked weird…I think its something to do with the lens, guess its one of those cheap chinese knock offs, and the effects are purely unintentional. By the way, it is a camcorder, you can see the reflection in one of the car windows.

He’s probably using a camera with a “3d filter.” Anyway, I’ve only been in Kuwait for 2 months and the biggest problems I can see are people driving waaaay too fast and police not enforcing the law. Sure, a camera will send you a small ticket, but aren’t most Kuwaiti’s rich? Won’t they just pay the ticket and forget all about it and keep doing what they’re doing. Eventually, their license will be take, but it only takes one accident and their license will be the least of their worries.
Overall, I see the speeders and think most of them just lack respect for the lives of others. They rather drive fast and live dangerously, but don’t care about other people. Maybe we should start a campaign or something and report the tags of super speeders to the police? The police probably wouldn’t care though…

i was 5 cars behind, driving extreme right with my family on board.
when signal turned Orange, 2 vehicles crossed it so fast when others treated the orange light like a red one and breaked to zero point within few seconds so most of the vehicles lost controlls and start hitting each others, avoiding each others.
Yellow light is to initiate stop, it does not mean speed up this is your last chance to pass the traffic light. Some morons does not know the driving rules and create accidents, that can of damage can not happen driving 80 km/h as the gulf road speed limit marks. Speeders are assassins!!!
Terrible. Whats worse than speeders, is guys who slow down trying to pick up girls in cars. I mean these morons have no respect for other drivers, slowing down in the fast lane just to try and I mean TRY to get these girls numbers. As a Kuwaiti Im disgusted, these sad sad slimebags actually think this works?? LOsers!!
