Lita’s is moving and expanding

I was surprised to find out that Lita’s the small Mexican food joint in Mahboula had closed down. They literally served the best Mexican food in Kuwait but even their website was down so I figured something really weird/bad had happened. Turns out they closed down because they’re moving to a larger location on the Gulf Road and they should open in a few months time. But, I still think that’s weird. If it was me I wouldn’t have closed down the Mahboula branch since it was very popular with the expats over there so I’m wondering if there is another side to this story. On the bright side, if they do open up on the Gulf Road then that’s better for me since they’d be a lot closer to my home.

It may have something to do with the new Mahboula branch of Taco Bell opening. Maybe the competition was too intense. Most of my co-workers prefer TB (slice of home). I still prefer Lita’s as it is more authentic. I hope the re-opening is soon!

I don’t know for sure but are you sure it isn’t Mahaboula’s Gulf Road not Salmiya Gulf Road? Just asking…. Because the locals of the Ahmadi area call it Gulf Road as well.

You are right but the road in the Fintas, Mahboula, Abu Halifa, Mangaf, & Fahaheel is called the Coastal Road, which was changed to Salem Al-Sabah Road a couple of months ago.

I ate there. Worst mexican food I’ve ever eaten in my life, and I’m a huge mexican food lover and have eaten in many restaurants all along the east coast and in the south like Texas.

It was absolutely disgusting. Only ate half of what I ordered.

The food was awful and the place was disorganized. They may have closed to get their act together. I really don’t think Mexican food is popular with Mid-Easterners, maybe it is more popular with expats in Mahboola.

Dayum! Was looking to visit them in Mahboola soon. Sucks.

IMO their location was a good choice – as Mark says, lot of Oil Company folks + guys from Arifjan live in this area from Fintas up till Fahaheel.

I live in Mahboola and ate at this place a few times, but we work like 12 hour days, 7 days a week and we like a quick meal with no headache, so TB is a better option for me. I had some snafu’s at the other place, so I hope they get a better gal at the counter. the food was OK.

I found out some more details on what happened to Lita’s. I can’t post the details but basically the owners got into a fight and split up. The quality drop probably happened after the split.

Yes, this is true. Two owners, disagreement, main cook (the poor gentleman from mexico) got caught in the middle. He was working a billion hours, with little pay. If they do reopen, I hope they hire more staff and get a bigger facility. They started off good and got overwhelmed by the response. The food was great when the restaurant was not busy and they could take their time to cook it. Also the headache it took to get the girls at the counter to get your order right, was a real tragedy. What a shame.

Do you have anything vegetarian?

Yes.

What is it?

What is it?
Zzzz

I said do you have anything vegetarian?…

No.

I’ll leave you to decide why they shut down :/

After working 7days 12 hours days you just don’t want to deal with this, it was so disorganized and the gal at the counter messed up everyone’s change, messed up everyones orders, it is about the staff. I know you stated that you loved the food, Mark, but they got overwhelmed by the customer count and were not organized.

The road by there is under construction and its really hard to drive back there. The ladies need more training and I hope they get it before they open back up!! The Mexican dude was doing his thing!! Even offered things that weren’t on the menu!!! Good looking out!!!

I heard that the son got fed up with the restaurant business and decided to close. I went there one time, the construction messed up the parking area. I went in, saw the food, saw the prices on the menu and decided to leave.

At that time they didn’t have carne asad which is what I was looking for. The restaurant was extremely small. I might have tried it if they had carne asada but I think it’s still hard to bring authentic ingredients to Kuwait.

Taco Bell is here now.

I agree with Yousefq8, I ate there once and didn’t even finish what I ordered. I was so excited when I first heard about it opening as I’m from Southern California and L.O.V.E Mexican food, but it was horrible!

I have been to Litas about 20 times to date. I normally pick up a breakfast burrito on the way to work as it’s only 1kd for a big burrito and much healthier than the fast food joints that serve breakfast.

The quality and authenticity if the food is very good at Litas. I would understand some of these negative comments if we were in Houston, Los Angeles or any other city with hundreds of Mexican restaurants close to Mexico, but we are in Kuwait where the only other competition is Taco Bell and that other taco place in Avenues mall both of them do not even come close to Litas. The chef at Litas is actually from Ciudad Juarez, I don’t think it can get more authentic than that.

I agree some of the growing pains of the staff like getting orders right and dealing with a crowd is not the best. But the service I have encountered has been friendly so far.

I hope Litas opens up soon in the same location as it’s walking distance from my place.

AMEN to THAT! 100% agree! Can’t believe people are comparing Lita’s to Taco Bell & Tex-Mex, WTF? They obviously don’t know a thing about authentic Mexican food…

It is probably safe to say since their website no longer exists and their facebook page as well, that they are closed forever!
