Tesco and Sultan partnership

I just heard awhile ago from a source that Tesco and Sultan Center have just worked out a deal where Tesco will supply Sultan Center with an extensive range of British lines. This will include Tesco products and British brands that are not yet available in the region. I don’t know how reliable this source is so count this information as a rumor for now but if it is true it contradicts my previous post in which I said that Alshaya was bringing Tesco to Kuwait. Or maybe both things can happen?

tesco is considered as a cheap (or garbage) alternative to “branded” products that they sell in their stores.. I don’t really think sultan center will sell them as cheap, probably way more expensive to what we currently have! They are smart. They know that people just buy whatever junk they bring to Kuwait

As a student in U.K., I try to stay away from “Tesco” products as much as I can! crap

What you said is not accurate. Tesco has three levels of groceries products in terms of quality.

The highest one called “Tesco’s Finest” : And its top quality, premium priced food product. Made of best organic ingredients.

The middle tier is just called “Tesco”: The widest range of products, and they are competitively priced against known brands, (Eg. Tesco chips vs Walkers).

The lower tier is called “Tesco Value”: Its the cheapest range of products in UK, the food quality is noticeably lower as they are made of low quality ingredients. And you will never see these sold aboard in Kuwait.

can you tell me what is in their “Finest” line that you fantasies about ? I have tried them all from their finest to value line.. all are junk

tesco finest cheese vs kraf? kraft
tesco finest juices vs tropicana ? tropicana

I don’t see how do you compare walkers to tesco! have u ever smelled tesco chips? they smell really bad.. they smell like a dog

not even to mention how sultan center ridiculously overprice everything. for example, tropicana costs 5 KD in kuwait while I used to buy it for something between 2-3 USD in the states

However, I can see how it will be turned into a huge profit. People desperately want anything, including trash, from western countries. Taco Bell, rings a bell?

5 KD for tropicana?? That’s insane – but so are the people who are willing to buy it for such a price…
i used to buy Tesco range: “Tesco Value” & “Tesco” foods are only just edible. I’d never buy their products again.
“Tesco Finest” is the only one that is almost worth spending money on – but it doesn’t compare to Superquinn products at all..

But i agree with you, some people are prepared to pay huge prices for trash, because it’s “Western”

Someone once said “if you see a cow, milk it” so i don’t blame Sultan Centre for their prices

Sultan is doing pretty badly these days with actual competition from Lulu, Carrefour and Geant. They publish their finances yearly and it’s not good.

True. They know there’ll always be idiots who are willing to purchase ridiculously priced goods in Kuwait.Look at Zain’s Blackberry BIS (full package) for example. It’s about 15kd here but around 10 USD where I’m from.

Tesco arent considered as cheap! They have 3 ranges, Tesco Finest, (really nice stuff), normal Tesco, (still nice stuff) & Tesco Value which is the blue & white stripe cheap stuff, (that is cheap & not great!)

But the normal Tesco stuff is great & I REALLY hope that they do bring it here & soon!

More likely they’re imitating LuLu Hypermarket where they brought all the crap products from the UK cheap brands (such as ‘Iceland’ products) and they are selling them here for double their prices.

If there are stupid people willing to pay this much over crappy quality then I’m sure Sultan Centre will do well with tesco products.

Personally I’d prefer Sainsbury’s products however I’m pretty sure if their products find their way to Kuwait it will definetley be the economic cheap quality ones.

Way da go TSC !!! Tesco Finest cheese straws Pleeaasse I totally miss those things, and chocolate Revels are the best !! Tesco are the number one in the UK they got there for a reason but please NO VALUE LINES

British brands in Kuwait would be fantastic, I agree with the other guys though give us the brands and keep the value lines back in the UK where they belong. Given the amount of stores Sultan has out here I think Tescos are on to a winner .

When are they going to get Tesco?
Ma 9arat… Dubai has Waitrose… I want Waitrose, Tesco, and Sainsbury! I don’t care how I just want to see them… I am sick and tired of Jam3iyat el Jabriya… I get a severe depression whenever I have to stop by…

Fortnum & Mason wouldn’t be a bad idea either

doesnt that defy the whole point of having a supermarket brand is to produce a cheap product an skip the supplier-retailer costs? Why ship a lower quality market product all the way from the UK to Kuwait and overprice it? seriously anyone buying a Tesco product from Sultan centre is just ignorant. I wish there were more savvy consumers in the middle east, so that they can punish businesses who take harmful decisios like this instead of rewarding them. Plus whats wrong with local jam3iya and local/regional brands? Local brands are cheaper, better for the economy, sometimes better quality and come with a lower carbon footprint attached to them.

BRILLIANT! Tesco has outstanding ranges and thousands of them to choose from! Well done Sultan – I hear they are doing wholefoods and many others as well!! YELLA!

TESCO is great… but SULTAN are going to kill their reputation .. why would TESCO partner up with a crappy company like sultan…. all they do is sell expired food and not take the responsibility for it… they also cover up expiry dates…. WTF

I was just going to mention that Sultan is really going downhill which is quite upsetting. They need to improve their current situation before venturing out. They need to stop selling expired foods and stock up on items that they haven’t stocked up on in ages. Maybe then can they consider “new businesses”. I can’t imagine how many times I’ve complained about expired food to be met with a blank stare.

TSC SUCKS these days. I am so mad at them! You can’t find ANY of the products they used to have; from dogfood to deodorant.

They boast “western” products and yet their line up of buyers is 99.8% Lebanese. (Disclaimer: I have nothing against Lebanese buyers, but they would probably do better in a store catering to mostly-Lebanese customers.)

What the Hell are you Al-Essa boys thinking? You’ve got serious competition these days (and no USG/Agility contracts to float you) and you are asleep at the wheel.

Not sure what you mean by your comment. You’re saying because they have Western products Lebanese shouldn’t shop there? Or are you saying because a lot of Lebanese shop there they shouldn’t carry Lebanese products? In both cases I would have to say that’s an extremely racist comment.

I am Lebanese and I shop at Sultan for their Western products. I’m sorry if that bothers you because I’m not getting my groceries from somewhere else thats more Lebanesish.

“They boast “western” products and yet their line up of buyers is 99.8% Lebanese.”

I could say the same thing about any chain store in the US of A.

All I would see were Latinos lining up at Walmart and Kmart and Asians waiting in line at the latter.

See I can make stupid statements too which have no relevancy to the topic at hand.

I’m not sure when you became the self-proclaimed American expert on all things Kuwaiti but you need to step down, you’re embarrassing the rest of us.

I would prefer Sainsbury’s than Tesco.
Sainsbury’s:
Best bottle water (fuzzy and still)
Best Turkey slices (Taste the Difference ‘range’)
BEST! and chowest brownies ever!!!
Best source of milk (altho they only have small 0.01% fat milk)
Best crust-free toasts!

by far sainsbury’s is far more better than Tesco in my opinion
