Niqashna is a platform for open debates that was launched early this year. In the first season they held three debates that discussed the following Kuwait related topics:

Debate 1: Arranged Marriage vs Love Marriage
Debate 2: Should children of Kuwaiti women be granted citizenship?
Debate 3: Kuwait’s Demographics: An imminent crisis or a potential opportunity

Niqashna is now starting their second season with their first debate being held this coming Wednesday. The subject of discussion is “Developing the Islands: Do you support ‘open’ tourism for Kuwait’s islands?”. It should prove to be a very interesting discussion, so if you’re interested in going to it, you can get more details [Here]

A few interesting events are taking place this weekend. There is a comic con event called SuperCon starting from today, there is also the Aeropress Championship which is taking place at Barba on Friday and finally a new indoor market called Market Space thats being held on Saturday. Last weekend, Staged in Kuwait put on a Beauty and the Beast musical and supposedly it was their best show yet. So they’ve decided to bring it back for one more show this coming Friday. If you missed out then this is your chance to watch it.

Cosplay (コスプレ kosupure), a contraction of the words costume play, is a performance art in which participants called cosplayers wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific character. Cosplayers often interact to create a subculture and a broader use of the term “cosplay” applies to any costumed role-playing in venues apart from the stage.

The video above by UrbanQ8 is of all the cosplay from last months ComFest event that took place here in Kuwait. From all the previous videos and photos of similar events I’ve seen, it looks like the local cosplay scene is growing pretty rapidly and I’d say we’ve got a pretty legit scene at the moment. It’s also not male dominant as you’d imagine it being, it’s probably close to a 50/50 split. [YouTube]

Red Bull Music Academy is bringing the acclaimed audiovisual artist Ah! Kosmos for a night of house and electronic music that will be held on the rooftop of Radisson Blu this coming Friday night. Local artists Boom Beats and Essa Hashemi will also be performing that night.

Tickets to the event are KD10 each but I’ve teamed up with Red Bull to giveaway two tickets to my readers. All you need to do to enter the draw is leave a comment below mentioning which energy drink is hosting the event. I will stop accepting entries in the comments section tomorrow at noon and then randomly choose one winner and notify them via email.

If you missed ComFest Con this past weekend, UrbanQ8 has a video recap of it which you can watch above (warning, its SUPER long). According to a friend of mine who goes to all the comic festivals that take place here, this one was the best one yet and will probably end up being THE comfest for Kuwait.

If you’re in Kuwait this weekend there are surprisingly a lot of things going on. If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, Jaqen H’ghar is in Kuwait this weekend for the Comic Festival. There are also two movies showing at Al Shaheed this weekend, a photographers bazaar and a Vietnamese food pop-up. Check out all the events taking place this long weekend below:
