SOLEdxb, the largest sneaker event in the Middle East is taking place after tomorrow in Dubai. If you’re attending the event pass by the Nike space since they contacted different sneaker collectors in the region and I have around 8 photos of my collection that will be on display at their exhibit (including the one above).

If you’re into photography you’ll be interested to know that The Shot Lounge is organizing the biggest photography event in Kuwait called Fototalks. The event which will be taking place on April 16th and 17th will include workshops, seminars and photography challenges. The Kuwait International Motocross Challenge 2012 is taking place this weekend. It’s an international event organized by the Kuwait Quarter Mile Auto & Motorcycle Club. Riders from Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, USA, South Africa, France and Belgium will be taking part in the event. Photography enthusiasts will be allowed around the track and there are also some activities for the crowd. GoPro will be giving away 5 GoPro cameras to the attendees via a raffle draw while Dunkin Donuts will be offering donuts and hot coffee as well. For more information on the event click [Here]
I just got the March schedule for Cinemagic and it looks like I’ve only watched one of the movies showing this month which is Triplets of Belleville. It’s a really strange but cool animation which is definitely worth watching. Check out the full schedule below.

Cinemagic Kuwait, is organizing these events as part of its efforts to contribute to the development of an internationally competitive Kuwaiti audio-visual production industry, partly by bringing the filmmakers and audiences together and by Increasing the public’s interest in – and appreciation for – the art of film-making. Cinemagic movies are screened in the old Salmiya, on the roof on top of Alghanim Electronics and LG. Entrance is free of charge and includes refreshments, popcorn and much more. I passed by this morning to the Concours d’Elegance to check out the cars but they wouldn’t let me in because they were closed. I managed to sneak in past the lax security but got caught inside and turned away. Turns out today they’ll only be opening at 7PM for VIPs only but I was told there might be a possibility that they’ll let the public in at 9PM. Below are some pictures of the cars that are on display around Marina Crescent and not in the main Concours area which is closed off from the rest of Marna Crescent.
Lightning McQueen and the other two characters from the Disney movie “Cars” are on display at the Marina Crescent fountain. They’ll be on display at Avenues next week but you can see them right now at Marina.
The incredible Porsche 959 is on display near Pizza Express all alone just like that. Most of the passerby’s will most likely think its just a regular Porsche and wonder why it’s being displayed there.
That’s the Ayrton Senna Williams car.
In the parking lot near Ayyame and Starbucks they have old police cars and fire engines on display. There is also a 4×4 display which includes a gigantic over sized H2 which I’ve actually seen being driven on the Gulf Road previously.
Also the picture on the very top of this post is their Muscle Car display. The whole area is closed off so you can only see the cars from a distance.
Concours d’Elegance will start tomorrow and last for the next four days. I passed by tonight for a peek and it just looks amazing. Aston Martin have a HUGE display which will house the Zagato which was launched earlier tonight at the Salwa Al Sabah Hall. They have a ton of race cars this year including the Ayrton Senna Williams car.
I’m going back tomorrow since everything should be up and ready by then. Below is some information on the event:

This year they’re bringing real life sized Pixar/Disney cars including Lighting McQueen, Finn and Mater. They will be on display inside Marina Mall.
Enzo Ferrari Birthday
On the last day of the event, Leonardo Fioravanti the designer behind some legendary Ferrari’s including the 365 GTB 4 “Daytona”, 365 GT4 Berlinetta Boxer, the 308 GTB and GTS as well as the 288 GTO and the F40 will be giving a lecture at the Concours. His lecture will be on the Ferrari F40 since it’s the F40′s 25th anniversary. The F40 is the last Ferrari he designed and a car many believe to be one of the greatest super cars ever made. Obviously there will also be a Ferrari F40 on display.
– The F40′s nemesis, the Porsche 959 will also be on display at the Concours.
– The first day of the event they’ll be displaying old government vehicles like the old police cars and ambulances etc..
– The last day of the Concours on the occasion of Enzo Ferrari’s birthday, over 150 Ferrari’s will get together at Marina Crescent and then drive towards the Kuwait Towers.
– The Alfa Romeo Bat 11 will be on display.

The winner of the event was Mubarak Al-Rumaidhi, the co-founder of Slide N’ Glide. He’ll now be going to Lebanon this summer representing Kuwait against other competitors from the region. You can watch one of his runs from yesterday in the video below.

A classical piano concert will take place next week featuring Kuwaiti pianist Faisal Al-Bahairi who is a winner of numerous piano competitions as well as two up and coming pianist Lulwa Al-Shamlan and Abdul-Aziz Al-Abwa. The concert will include works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin and will be taking place at the Abdul-Aziz Hussien Theater “Library” in Mishref’s Co-op on Tuesday, February 14th at 7:00pm. Registration is now open for entry into the 2012 PAWS annual dog show. The show will take place in the beautiful gardens of the British Embassy on Friday March 9th from 11AM to 4PM. There will be stalls at the dog show selling a variety of merchandise, activities for the children, refreshment stalls and of course the main attraction will be the dog competition categories.

Dr Farah Al-Nakib is holding a talk entitled: “Beyond Demolition and Heritage: On the Conservation and Re-Use of Kuwait City’s Early Oil Landscape.” The event is going to be looking at the importance of preserving and reusing old buildings in Kuwait instead of demolishing them or turning them into museums which is what seems to always be the case in Kuwait. Dr Farah will be sharing some real examples of how some people (mainly businesses) have made use of old buildings to revive areas and create “locally made business communities”. One great example she will be sharing is the Seif Palace strip where Pink Moon, Slider Station and Burger Hub are located.

Did you know that Hala February launched for the first time back in February 1999? I don’t think it has really improved much from back then and I find the event lacking consistency organization wise as well as any respect from the major retailers since a lot of them start their sale before the event. But I do find their Salmiya Carnival interesting since it allows everyone to see how much nicer Salem Al Mubarek Street can be without any cars. So if you’re looking for something to do tomorrow pass by the carnival, it should be there all day long. [Link]
The luxurious car show Concours d’Elegance is going to be held for the third time in Kuwait next month. Like the previous years, it going to be an important and prestigious event that will attract people from both inside and outside Kuwait.
What is the Concours d’Elegance?
Concours is a French word meaning competition. The concept of Concours originates in 17th C. France when aristocrats used to choose their best horse carriages to parade around parks of Paris during the summer week ends and holidays. Later these traditions changed to automobiles from the 20th C. Concours today have strict regulations and cars are inspected by qualified judges. Trophy winners are carefully chosen. Each year there are numerous events which take place across the world, many of which are world famous, including Villa d’Este in Italy, Goodwood in UK, and Pebble Beach in USA. The Kuwait Concours d’Elegance is rapidly becoming a fixture in this international program, able to attract some of the world’s rarest and exotic motorcars.

Tidbits
There are going to be some very interesting cars this year at the show including the Zagato, Jaguar F-Type, the McLaren and other surprises which they wouldn’t tell me about except that they’re “Concours Special Editions”. Valentino Balboni the former chief test driver for Lamborghini is going to back this year. Bruce Meyers the inventor of the Dune Buggy will also be at the event.
The new Supercar De Macross GT1 is going to be officially launched at our Concours. The GT1 has an 800hp Rouch engine and incoporates technologies currently used in F1… including some that are banned.

Harley Davidson is holding a bike show on January 27th at Marina Mall. The event will bring Harley Davidson owners from across the Gulf and they’ll compete and be judged in a total of fourteen categories. I went to their event last year and it was pretty cool since there were a whole variety of bikes and all customized so you couldn’t find two bikes alike.
