Arraya Complex in Kuwait City recently set up an EV parking spot. This is the third EV parking spot I’m aware of in Kuwait with the other two being in Al Shaheed Park and Al Hamra Tower. I like how electric vehicles are slowly gaining traction in Kuwait but for things to really speed up we need more electric cars to be sold in Kuwait. Right now the Chevrolet Bolt EV is the only electric car I’m aware of that’s being sold in Kuwait.
The Porsche Taycan EV (pictured above) just recently got released but I’m not sure if we’re getting it in Kuwait since you can’t even price or configure the car on the Porsche car configurator page. If the Taycan does get released in Kuwait then we’re definitely going to see a lot more electric cars on the street. And of course, if Tesla opens up a local dealership…

Electric cars in Kuwait will come in just like everything else. First a tiny trickle, and then once the spark hits, the wave will come roaring in. Tie in autonomous driving a few years down the line, and it will be massively popular. It’ll get here eventually. Personally can’t wait to see more electric cars on the road. Think about the traffic we sit in everyday people… Even if you don’t care about global warming (how much hotter can it get in Kuwait for it to really matter?!), think about all that lovely carbon monoxide we’re breathing in, every single day. It’s killing us. Besides, less oil for domestic fuel translates to more oil for export. It’s a win-win for Kuwait, and I don’t see why more people don’t see this. Someone bring Tesla to Kuwait already!
I understand where you are coming from but you need to see the big picture. In Kuwait, we get our electricity from burning fossil fuel. In order for electrical cars to be better for us, you need to ensure that generating the electricity needed to move an electrical vehicle for 1KM has actually less carbon foot print that burning fuel in an internal combustion engine to move the same distance. Unless each electric vehicle charging station (whether private or public) uses solar panels only to generate electricity, It would be impossible to claim that electrical vehicles are better for the environment in Kuwait. It would probably cause more loads on our overloaded electrical grid system. I believe we sometimes resort to diesel generators in some areas to cover the shortage of electricity in peak hours during the summer.
I agree that pollution from internal combustion engines in Kuwait is bad. We need to actually get cleaner fuel (i.e. when the new refinery starts operating) and force commercial vehicles (think old diesel trucks, buses, construction equipment, etc.) to use newer more environmentally friendly engines. This will have a much bigger positive impact on the air we breath than using electrical vehicles.

Power stations running oil are way way way more efficient than an internal combustion. It’s beyond ensured. Even taking into account the losses from transporting that energy (electricity) from the power grids and lines it’s still above and beyond the efficiency of petrol cars

Solar energy is the best solution. Kuwait has enough capital and enough Sun to make this work. Kuwait can take leadership role in this.
Lets see how long until a gas powered auto parks there & refuses to move
Recently I spotted a charging station/spot at JACC parking.
There are EV chargers installed at Arraya Car Park and Salhia car park as well. (2 bays per car park ).
