Did you get your salary this month?

This is related to yesterday’s question on if you had to pay your rent this month. I got the impression from some of the comments that people were either not getting their salaries or getting partial salaries. So here is another poll:

Our company staff has been sent on forced leave in order reduce the ‘provision for leave balance’ expense for the year.

While illegal, most all employees can’t speak against the decision, as they might end up losing their jobs. And with the current economy, it would be damn near impossible to find employment elsewhere.

What really drives me up the wall, is the fact that my employer has a 9 figure net worth, and still cannot bail his own company out.

salary got only 60 %.No reduction in rent have to pay the full amount.on top of that dependent visa got expired on 25th March heard the news and asked not to worry as their is no fine now they make it online for 22 visa renewal it shows 24 kd fine.if don’t pay its increasing day by day 2 kd.cant go out sacred to hell due to kids can’t be exposed to the outside.where to cry and whome to ask.life is hard but it’s worst as an expat.

And to just to make it
Worst you can’t renew the online residency for 22 visa Even if you pay the fine.due the malfunction in MOI website.
So keep pay 2 kd everyday.and all the news about no fine for residency late are fake or a propaganda.

Good evening
I didnt get my salary of April and all the employees working with me in same company got their salary. When asked the salary the owner blocked me, I was supervisor in the store n was handling each and everything even in the lockdown I used to work n owner contact me if customers need anything I have to contact with them.
March salary I got in June.
April & May didnt get my salary.
June salary paid in July
July still didnt get.
Now owner terminated me.
Now his saying I’m not going to get any of my money.
I need to pay rent
My family with me n my son school started online, I cannot afford.
Please help me to solve my problems.

I think most people that haven’t been receiving their salaries or on unpaid leave are laborers, these results might be skewed towards white collar employees.

Are we talking March or April Salaries here? If March yes my company paid us all in full. April is still a question mark because of the current market situation. Also almost all no essential admin staff and HR staff have been put on mandatory leave.

Most employees who didn’t get their salaries, who were let go or are on unpaid leave don’t browse 248am.

generally yes but as I just explained in another comment under the Did you pay rent this month? post, yesterdays poll went viral on facebook and reached over 100,000 people. Thats a much wider reach than my usual readers. Also not sure why you think it’s only unskilled workers who have been let go or were pushed to go on unpaid lists, there are at least two very large companies that have let go of employees or asked them to go on forced leave.

True not only labours, but executives at mid and high level in the organisation are facing the same issues. But its very unfortunate that the ones that are getting impacted the most are the ones at lower levels.

For Eg. My boss make KD4000+, I on the other hand make only KD600. So when he tells all the employees that everyone will receive 50% off in their salaries in the month of april. So he will still make KD2000+ and not feel a pinch to continue to live a content life. But me on the other hand would face alot of issues sustaining my family with KD300. Especially when rents and installments arent waived off.

When i share this point of view with my company, they are reluctant to decide differently. When the people with higher salaries only see lesser income, the remaining see no money to feed their wife and children. Also we are forced to accept these T&C and the company doesnt want to terminate the individual.

They also firmly state that courts are closed, so there is no use of thinking of going legal. and when the courts open, they are confident the cases wont go anywhere since they will be overwhlemed with the number of cases.

Yeah I understand your view, but there is another way to look at this. I don’t know what field you work in but a lot of times the bosses get paid an X amount of money because they also generate the company an X amount of money. So they don’t earn more just because of the title they have but because they help generate more money for the company. So its easier to let go of the lower level staff and even replace them later than it would be your boss. In fact the company might lose more than 4,000+KD by firing your boss because of loss of business.

Oh and also I don’t know how long he’s been working with you for but say he’s been there for 10 years, that means if they let him go they need to give him 3 months’ notice (12,000KD) and 10 years indemnity which is another 40,000KD. So 52,000KD to fire your boss, while probably a few hundred to let go of a lower level one.

Finally regarding your comment that his salary will be 2000kd so he will not feel a pinch. Thats really not fair because as you earn more money your quality of life improves and the amount you spend increases. So his rent could be 1,500KD a month, his car payment could be 500KD a month, he might have a house mortgage as well abroad, family he helps out with, children at school, child at university etc.. So he’s living his life based on his 4000KD salary and suddenly his salary is barely paying for his house and car let alone anything else.

fair enough. My boss lives life like an employee earning 600kd, no car installments. I know for sure it isnt feasible to fire my boss. but definitely, they could terminate lower payscale employees. which they dont want to.because they are afraid, they are afraid either a competitor will hire us, or they just want to retain the employees.
But either ways, they think cutting of salaries is justifiable.

Technically, received full salary but no “bonus” stipend (I work in a private school). So let’s say if you make an extra 200 or 300 monthly for as team leader, head of department, NHS, etc. it is discontinued till August. Which honestly, yeah kinda sucks but is only fair. We are still expected to complete all duties (as HOD, I’m still given those extra tasks) but hey, gotta be a team player during harsh times. Plus, I get to teach with my pajama bottoms on, which is the dream of you ask me.

I work in a private company and my employer didn’t pay us from March till june
Now we have resume back from 30th of June but I had that he wanted to pay us 1/2 salary which is this month.
But to be honest I surfer a lot for this month
I walk everyday which is about 2 hours working distance. At the end I will take 1/2 salary this my swelt it really painful.

All in hospitality industry as well as retail have been gravely affected. Most companies in the sector have paid half salaries or withheld salaries of staff, mostly labour class in march. Now in April the ones which are still working will be either sent of forced unpaid leaves in which they cant even travel back home or asked to resign.

I payed my staff in full for March, and planning to do so in April, but if things continue the way it is I will be forced to shutdown operations for the month of May and hope to resume in June.

Its great that you are paying your employees their salaries and not leaving them stranded without salary or partial salary. I know of employees who are cutting salaries of employees and when the employees are asking them how are they going to pay their rent, the company says dont pay. its a national issue.
anyways, hope you have a strategy to help your employees if needed for the month of may.

Not only did we get paid in full, but in a show of strength, we were paid a week earlier than usual for the month of March. Very grateful indeed!

During these trying times it would be great if top management would come together and takes a collective larger deduction in pay so that they are able to disburse the salaries in full to their downline employees.
Its a known fact that top management is responsilbe for bringing in the business hence taking home a higher pay check, and they are difficult to let go, but they are also the ones who are not living paycheck to paycheck. The down line staff usually ranging in the pay scale of KD300 – 600 is dependant on every KD they earn as they have to stretch it far more with minimal to no savings.
If companies realise that they can not function without their downline employees they could workout a favorable equation and ensure they can take care of their staff for a month or two so that once they come back to work they are able to ensure work starts as normal.
Furthermore the government of Kuwait has done a fantastic job in supporting the fight towards Covid19 by donating to WHO, wouldn’t it be great if they started working on financial aid pacakges for smaller companies that make up the greater employment sector in Kuwait?

Agree to the last line. Donating to WHO to support poorer countries and HOT zones are just fine. But while local businesses and employees suffer within the country (Kuwait), it would be a great relief if a package was directed to these businesses / folks.

You stole my words. Absolutely agree with everything that you said! The govt. should’ve looked out for the entire employment sector first who contribute to the growth of this economy! Besides, Any company being in business for a long time with a good stand should have a reserve set aside for any contingencies. One or two months of loss of business should not be a huge burden to carry. There’s no comparison where ppl earn KD1500/ and above as they get to tap into their savings than those who live from paycheck to paycheck and are struggling with meagre incomes. They have been hit the hardest by this. I got paid 10days for March, which is not even half of my salary and forced to take unpaid leave.

I got my salary in time missing nothing

But in my wife’s company they force reduced salaries for almost all employees, although the company have a reserve cash, but they decided to start by stealing employees vacation days (employees work full time remotely, same amount of work or even more) and reduce thier salaries

In the same time not only the company business is the same (judging by work amount), but the company owners benifited from the loans delay

Got my salary of March.
April till – Unknown time will be 50% deducted.

1) Now the question is, till when will this situation be ok?

2) Was it right for me to say Yes ( I am with you in this decision )?

3) Should we work half a day just because we are being paid half?

The time is too bad to find a job outside so we have to go through this.

I am an expat myself
I also work in our family owned company
If the income was coming there would be no issue of paying staff
But after reading many messages from people and their unfortunate plights
What would you do if you were an employer right now
Maybe you have solutions that may work
Especially at this time when sxternal relief for SME’s is still not forthcoming
Secondly I posted a suggestion to form a Help Group for people who were destitute
To maybe collectively initiate a positive movement perhaps with our contacts advice or knowledge
But not one person responded
Hoping some kind souls are out there

you should add 2 more options.

Yes, but on forced annual leave and still working from home
