Kei is Closing Down

Kei, the first Japanese restaurant in Kuwait is closing down their JW Marriott location at the end of the month. Kei first opened up 40 years ago and were originally located at the Hilton Hotel in Bneid Al Gar but had to move because the hotel got demolished. They moved to JW Marriott 20 years ago and now have to move again because the hotel is also getting partially demolished. They still haven’t found a new location to move to, so it will be awhile until they’re back again. If you want to pass by one more time before they close, their last day of operation is December 31st.

Regarding the hotel what I understood is happening is that Salhiya Mall will be expanding into the lobby area of the hotel and the first few floors of the hotel will be converted to offices. The hotel will still remain but will move up a few floors above the offices.

Not sure about TG, but they’re not open. Kei right now is open for dine-in. Went on Thursday and TG was still closed. According to Kei staff, it didn’t open since march.

Kie used to be at the Kuwait Hilton previously ?
Wasn’t it the old Michiko that got re-branded because Michiko sounded a lot like a Geisha name?

Remind myself everyday :'(. Literally the only sushi place I frequent. I hope they relocate quick! And amazingly bad timing for me since I only eat sushi when the weather is cool so just about 4 months a year. As a result, went there three times in the last 7 days… Will definitely consider being there on the 31st and making them kick me out (actually had that as a nightmare the night I found out about the closing down so why not make the nightmare a reality xD)

The one in the Kuwait towers is really good and the chef is a professional japanese sushi chef.. i think he’s professional Atleast.

Good to know! I’ve never been there. Any idea if the food is fresh/frozen? What about the price range? (Kei has a very high bar to beat)

Amimoto (the place in Kuwait Towers) has the best quality fish in Kuwait alongside White Robota (both higher quality than Kei in my opinion). I think they both get the fish from the same supplier and they’re both priced the same which is 7KD for two pieces of chutoro nigiri and 9KD for otoro.

I’m betting on (and hoping for) them to open in the new lobby on floor whatever. Hopefully, they’ll re-think their pricing strategy to attract more customers while maintaining good quality (and their quality can be MUCH better than it is currently– non-frozen, etc).
