Al Corniche Club is Closing Down

Yesterday Al Corniche Club sent out an email informing their members that they will be closing down the club on October 11th. Last year Al Corniche Club lost the bid to operate the location but went to court hoping to reverse the decision. That must have not worked out and so they now have to leave the location.

Starbucks obviously. Also no pumkin spice latte. If you want that or anything else fun and enjoyable, you know where the airport is. Good day.

Most of Corniche members were expats because expats don’t have homes with pools or chalets, nor do they have an issue wearing swimsuits in a public space. It’s the same with all clubs in Kuwait, majority of members are expats.

If you break that down by 12 months, it is about 83 KD a month, which is great considering all the stuff you can do there

It was a great club

I went for a tour of the place in December 2019…they told me they were only doing month by month memberships then because of the legal issues. For myself and my child, they quoted me 380kd a month. I just about fell over. Then I went to the Shaab Sea Club right next door for a tour, and it was 300-something KD for a year! And it has a lot more stuff, and the same beach as Corniche. But since the outdoor pool was closed for winter, we had planned to join in April, but corona….

So many memories. This place made our life in Kuwait so enjoyable. All the employees were great, amazing classes, lovely garden and beach, a safe haven for kids. Will miss this place a lot.

Offically, no more fun and affordable places in Kuwait.

The other day I was calling different hotels for a day pass option, 30 kwd only for the beach or for 3 hours next to a pool! I think that’s ridiculous!
Not all of us want to sit and eat in the restaurants.

Like Khiran? I was told off by one lady 🙂
I just wish they would see a value in having daypass available for everyone like in Oman (10 OMR) or Emirates.

Yeah like Khiran or the whole gulf strip. If you’re willing to swim at Corniche or Palms then all the surrounding beaches are the same and for free. Why do you want to pay for a beach when it’s for free? The only reason to pay for a club is if you want to use the pool.

We had a family membership for our entire 8 years living in Kuwait and the club went from fairly decent to terrible during those 8 years. We stayed on as members only because of the club’s location in relation to our residence. The senior management was non-existent and when giving constructive feedback to middle management it was always taken in the wrong way and it was common that staff would argue openly in an aggressive manner with members. I have lived abroad for almost 25 years in all the GCC countries except Qatar, as well as in the far east and always been a member at similar clubs but this one is the saddest and most mismanaged club of all. Very unfortunate as it has so much of potential to be really great! Hopefully will the new operators/management change things around for the better.

Has anyone who was a member had any success with refunds for unused membership since it closed? we were assured when closing that we would get a refund within a week for the rest of our membership period but they have since stopped responding.

I just received an email from Al Corniche Club with my refund details. I was unlucky to have renewed my annual membership in March 2020. just before the full lockdown. I basically have only used around a month of the annual membership since I renewed since I did not want to return immediately after the lockdown so I suspended my membership for a month. Of course the Club shut down permanently shortly after that. I paid around 1700KD for a one year family membership.

I just received an email today saying that I had two options. Either accept 70 hours of personal training sessions or accept a cash refund of KD670 which would be paid in three monthly payments! So they basically are short changing me KD1000!

I have just emailed them back saying that there must be a mistake as there is 1000 KD missing from my refund. They haven’t responded yet. If anyone else is experiencing something similar please mention it here as we should group up and demand that they refund us fully for the membership time that we could not use as a result of Corniche Club losing its license – which is not our fault obviously.

Similar situation here. We were promised a refund, though not quite as substantial as yours. They have completely stopped responding to emails for over 2 months now, and no way to contact them by phone either.

If anyone has contact details for the managing company/people please let me know.

Same situation. No response to 10 emails. Trying to find the parent company and go after them. Please post if you have any success. Will also be writing my credit card company

They stopped offering the cash in installments, my email essentially said I could take the PT sessions or eat rocks.

there will be soon a replacement for the same culture and expats atom of Al Corniche ,,,,,,and soon I will share very specific details for those who are interested to know.

I am in the same situation with regards to refund, what is the process now? Does anyone have any official contact details now there is no response from Club.

Mark can you please post a story about the refund debacle? There are literally hundreds of us who are not receiving the refund that Al Corniche promised. Consumer protection has been no help at all and has basically sided with Corniche. This is theft of thousands of KD and worthy of a blog post!

I was finally contacted by email in December. They offered PT sessions in lieu of a refund. I declined and again repeated my desire for a refund and for someone to call me. Radio silence again since then. No names or contact info on their emails.
