CITRA Speedtest

Yesterday, Kuwait’s Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) launched an official internet speed testing portal as part of the Kuwait Internet Exchange. The reason for CITRA launching their own speed test website from what I’ve been told is for two reasons transparency and data collection.

By using the CITRA speed test website, users will have an accurate way of comparing the internet performance of the different networks in Kuwait when it comes to speed and international latency (which is good to know for gaming). CITRA also wants to use this website as a way to collect data to better help them understand the performance of the different providers in the market.

How is this useful for you? Once enough people have used the website it will provide a fairly accurate representation of internet speeds between the different providers in Kuwait. You will visually be able to see who is providing the fastest speeds and who is the slowest. In the next site update I’ve been told they’ll also be adding area comparisons so you’ll be able to compare internet speeds in your area.

I’m using Zain 5G as my internet provider so according to the website, I’m killing it compared to the average internet speeds in Kuwait. I still haven’t gotten over the fact how fast my internet is, 5G is really just the best thing ever.

If you want to run a speed test on your internet connection, click here.

Thanks Ali!

Weird I just noticed that the optimal server was actually the slowest but the closest I managed to get 450 still

Server selection is done based on several parameters, ookla same as other speed testing software will try to connect you to the closest server to your location, if multiple ones available, will select based on ping, jitter etc. Selection is not related to the d/u speed, as the testing comes after server selection, therefore the closest one to you might not be the optimal in terms of speed.
As Mark suggested, check your speed against a local server but for a more correct speed indication check against a server based in US/EU as most connections in KW are routed through providers in those zones.
If you want to check your connection and see how many hops you have, through where your signal goes, use pingplotter, it`s a very good tool giving a lot of info on connection.

I wanted to try out 5G, is there any possibility to go and compare the 3 companies in terms of service in my area? Or that doesn’t work out? I really don’t wanna commit on something where the network sucks

Tell me about it! I had to sign up for a two year contract with Zain to get the 5G. At that time they only had one router, the big one for house. I should have waited because now they have like 3 5G router options including a portable one. I hate contracts, Thanks God the service is good, I just went on faith because their 4G LTE was working great in home. Zain has very good map system to determine if the 5G signal will be good for your house area (Im sure the other providers also can tell you if good or no based per their 5G equipment location map)

Even if you live an area that shows excellent 5G coverage, you can still end up having a shit experience in your particular house, because of obstacles like the houses surrounding you and the population in your street. In my opinion, the only best way to test your signal is to bring someone to your home that has 5G and see how their signal fairs.

Any idea about the fiberoptic which phase is it now ?
I have been told they are working outside areas first into inner areas
yet old areas are still waiting !!!

Awesome I like the graphs and stats, but I also wish these tests would also give a one line analysis on test results for non techs, something like: It’s fast today, Better luck next time or Your provider /connection is shitty!!
