TV Guide from May 1994

A few years ago I scanned and uploaded a Kuwait TV Guide issue from back in 1989. Back then we didn’t have satellite channels just regular UHF and VHF stations with the English one being KTV2. If the weather was humid, we used to get Saudi Channel 2 and Dubai Channel 33 sometimes but we mostly survived on KTV2 and video rentals.

But after the 1990 invasion, we started to get access to satellite television. I remember we had around 8 satellite channels with the main English one being Star Plus. A few weeks ago I found a 1994 and 1995 copy of the TV Guide and I decided I’d scan the 1994 one. It’s got the KTV2 guide as well as Star Plus, Prime Sports, Zee TV, Star TV Music and the CNN and BBC guide. I also added a bonus Showbiz ad that was in the Arabic section.

Seeing that pictures of the adverts for Quantum Leap and the In the Heat of the Night TV series really brought back some fond memories of growing up in the ’90s

Saturdays at 9:30 i used to watch The Fresh Prince of Belair. I remember it so well as it was the only day i was allowed to stay up after 9:00 on a school night putting in mind back then the weekend was thursday and friday so sarurdays were school days.

Wow…memories. I remember I saw this before.
I wish I was young again. Now I’m 35 years old. Beautiful memories. God bless Kuwait

This hits different! A weird feeling in the stomach I get whenever I see posts like this. Old days were simple and great.

Which channel aired Ren & Stimpy? Nickelodeon on Showtime never aired that show (believe me, I watched as much as I could back then, and I never even seen ads for it).

Ragheb Alama in his salad days. Btw, that’s what your average salesman in Kuwait would look like on the eve of the Iraqi invasion.
Anyway, I used to be a big sucker for Channel 55 from Manama. Think we watched Knotts Landing on Ch 55. It’s only when the weather wasn’t nearly as sultry that the booster antennae would act up resulting in missed episodes 😜
KTV-2 had its own share of delights too: The Paper Chase, Benson (comedy), Falcon Crest, Return to Eden, Mind your Language, the Lucy Show, BBC’s Horizons program and so on and so forth. I guess KTV-2 was the only English language channel in all of the Persian Gulf not to have announcements in English. It was just one of those idiosyncrasies. For my fill of Arab television I would turn to Iraqi TV.

I know it’s too late for me to commenting here but I really really want to know one thing. On one of Kuwait TV Channels, there used to be an Art Programme hosted by an Arab Woman where she used to tell storied to kids and teach arts and crafts. I remember it used to come after Teletubbies and Barney. I would really like to know that woman’s name because honestly I owe my lifelong fascination with art to her. If anyone knows anything please let me know!
