Can you guess what this car is?

I spotted this while I was in Lebanon. It looks like a custom Bentley crossover of a sort but I don’t think it originally started off as a Bentley. Any guesses to what it was?

Note: I don’t know the answer but I took a peek at the dashboard when he drove by so I should be able to confirm if your guess is right or wrong.

The extra cameras

Some people have emailed me regarding the new devices that have been installed next to the speed detector cameras on the highway. There is a rumor that these new devices track your speed from one camera to another. I don’t believe that is the case. From what I gathered by checking the manufacturers website of these devices, their speed detecting cameras have an option for adding a secondary camera which is what these are. My guess is they’re just taking two pictures simultaneously (or sequentially) of speeding cars either for better accuracy or in case they have trouble reading the plate number in one of the photos.

Update: A reader emailed with an interesting bit of information. According to him he takes the King Fahad Road (40th) from the First Ring Road every morning and drives past all the cameras going 150KM/h. He told me that the first camera on the King Fahad Road doesn’t take a picture, the one after that does, then the one after that doesn’t while the one after that does. This happens all the way till the end of the highway. I’ve always had a theory that only one side of those double sided camera boxes actually contains camera while the other side is a dummy. If what he says is true then that theory is correct and if you’re driving back the opposite way, the cameras that didn’t go off previously would go off on the return.

Speeding might get your car impounded and then crushed

Not sure whats with the sudden surge of all these dramatic new law proposals but this is one that’s sure to freak out a lot of people:

Kuwait is considering a proposal to crush cars of drivers caught speeding before selling the vehicles as scrap metal, according to reports in the Gulf state

In a bid to combat speeding, drivers caught travelling over 180 km/hr will have their vehicles confiscated, crushed and sold as scrap, Kuwaiti press reported.

My car can’t even get to 180 so I’m safe in that aspect but it still does seem a bit extreme. [Link]

Datsun Skyline GTR

There are 5 cars I’d like to own one day and #5 on the list is the Datsun Skyline GTR and if you’re a fan as well then you’ll be interested to know there’s one currently for sale on Q8car. BUT… the owner wants KD25,000 for it. You can check out the listing over [Here]

While we’re on the subject of old cars below is a picture taken this weekend by InfiniteDriver of another cool oldie, the Datsun 510.

Update: Forgot to add that Datsun is actually making a comeback although they’ve now got a new logo. I would rather they kept their old one. [Link]

Ferrari 458 Spider is a sleeper car

There’s a news story on Sheik Jassim Al Wathiqi in British “The Sun” tabloid. It seems they found it interesting and newsworthy that Jassim’s son likes to fall asleep when his dad takes him out in the 458 Spider. You can read the article [Here]

You can also watch the video below of Sheik Jassim driving around Kuwait in the Spider. It’s such a beautiful car.

Someone stole his wheels

Imagine parking your car outside a super market overnight and coming back the next day to find your wheels are stolen. This happened in Sulaibiya.

Mercedes Dubai Fail

A reader took the picture above in Dubai. For non-Arabic speaking readers, the mistake in the advert is the price. Instead of writing Emirati Dirhams they wrote Kuwaiti Dinars so the price of the C-Class starts at KD159,000.

Thanks Samer

Not very efficient

Is there a reason why gas stations don’t get longer hoses so that cars who have their gas tanks on the left can still fill up from a hose that’s on the right?
