I got a sneak peek at ubon awhile ago and the place looks amazing. It’s very tastefully done with a mixture of black burnt wood and concrete. I spoke to the owner while there and he told me they’re going to be playing mostly modern jazz which will suit the place a lot. It’s easily easily going to be the coolest looking Thai food place in Kuwait.
On the left is a Double Shack Burger smothered with Nutella. On the right is KFC’s Mighty Zinger shoved between a Krispy Kreme glazed donut and a strawberry-filled one. Yay or Nay? Fahad actually ate them! [Link]
Last night at the prestigious ICSC Awards that was held at Burj Khalifa in Dubai, our local creation B+F Open Flame Kitchen won the Gold Award for “Best New Retail Concept”. I wouldn’t say I’m too surprised about this since OFK is really that good. [Link]
Ubon, the Thai restaurant which I posted about awhile back looks like it’s opening soon. I saw them bring in the furniture 2 days back and the place seems pretty trendy looking. This will definitely turn into the coolest Thai restaurant in Kuwait.
I really forgot how good the Five Guys burger was until I had it last night again. I know it doesn’t look like much in the picture above but with Five Guys it’s less about the looks and more about the taste and taste wise it’s easily a better burger than Shake Shack.
My hotel is conveniently located 5 minutes away from the Madison Avenue Shake Shack branch so I passed by last night for dinner. I ordered a double shack, a plain single cheeseburger, fries, a regular sized coke and a bottle of water. The bill came out to around $18 which if I’m not mistaken is cheaper than Kuwait. Taste wise I have to say the NY Shake Shack tastes better than the Kuwait one. The patty tastes less greasy, the veggies taste better (the onions were delicious) and the fries were crunchy crispy which I love.
Looks like Potbelly, Pinkberry and Starbucks inside the Duty Free at the Kuwait Airport isn’t opening anytime soon.

I finally managed to pass by Tatami Japanese restaurant for lunch today. Everything I had was really good and the owner of the place (who is also the chef) was there and she was very friendly and helpful when choosing the dishes. My only issue with the place is that the sushi rolls are extremely tiny. Like the tiniest rolls I’ve ever seen. But other than that it’s a great place and worth trying out. Franklin Marshall opened up yesterday (I think) at the Avenues Phase II opposite Paul Smith.
I was also at Marina Mall last night and noticed SuperDry is opening up in place of where Diesel was located.
Finally some sad news, it seems my favorite Japanese restaurant in Kuwait Kei will not be reopening at Marina Crescent and instead Nestle Toll House will be opening in its place. Originally Kei closed down for renovation but they then gave half their shop to Columbus Cafe Caribou Coffe and it seems now they’ve given the other half to Nestle Toll House. They still have their JW Marriott location but I preferred the Marina Crescent branch since it was right next to my house.

I just heard that Shake Shack is opening a second branch in Avenues Phase III. I could understand with a brand like Pinkberry or Starbucks why you would need multiple outlets in the same mall but Shake Shack?

This is the best thing to happen to the airport since they shutdown McDonalds. They’re opening them all in place of Costa right after immigration.
Kuwait Black Market spotted the Walls brand ice cream at Geant in 360 Mall. I remember someone telling me ages ago that Walls ice cream was banned in Kuwait because the Walls logo upside down read as “Allah” in Arabic. Kinda like those Nike Air shoes back in the 90’s that were also banned because the way “Air” was written also looked like “Allah”.
I guess the Walls thing was just an urban legend and now we can all enjoy our Magnum ice cream. [Link]

Fatburger is finally opening up their Burj Jassem branch in Kuwait City on the 25th of this month. Burj Jassem is located opposite the Ice Skating Rink.
A bagel place opened up in Kuwait City which I think is pretty cool I haven’t tried them yet but some friends at work did. Their website is horrible (slo-mo 90’s style flash) but they’ve got their full menu up there for you to download and order from.
