Last week STC (formally VIVA) launched their new brand but someone just sent me a link to a company called CTS who oddly have a very similar logo (and letters coincidently). It could be a direct copy or just a big coincidence but either way still very interesting.
Update: STC branding was done by Interbrand.

What I can’t understand is , if you go to their website (about) you will see this:
Kuwait Telecommunications Company (stc) !!
S stands for Saudi but how is it now stands for Kuwait?!
its listed in KSE, they don’t want to confuse investors that they’re buying Saudi’s STC
So many companies have the exact same name for different stock exchange (including Kuwait and Saudi)
but its different companies in this case
buying STC kuwait is not buying STC Saudi

Kuwait Telecommunications Company is the legal name of the company when it was first established. It’s a long process to change so most companies don’t change it. VIVA and STC are considered just brand names here. Same thing for Zain, it’s just a brand name, but the legal name of the company is still Mobile Telecommunications Co. Same thing for Ooredoo, the legal name is still National Mobile Telecommunication Co. ever since it was first established.
Here’s hoping that the change is more than just a name re-brand, and STC will do something about its very patchy data reception.
Probably STC will have to pay a hefty penalty, provided CTS have a copyright.
But, wondering how come STC being of considerable size company do not have talents to develop logos or atleast outsource the work. Strange.. This is kinda cheating.

It was definitely outsourced… it’s just that boss in the agency who made found buying a vector logo from Shutterstock was expensive so the graphic dude just quickly searched for a free alternative with swapping letters of course 😋
Why bother creating a new one when you can copy an existing one AND get away with it?
STC must have seen the blatant IP violations in this part of the world, esp. in Kuwait (e.g. Hassans ripping off Harrods, fake 7-11 in Salmiya, Popcorn Place still continuing with Popcornopolis and so on)

The “O’s” is for the circle ⭕️ of coverage, legacy from Wataniya. In the middle of the 4 “O’s” you find the word “red”, brand color, also legacy from Wataniya.
