Shawerma Ebn 3my

Last year when I asked for recommendations on favorite shawerma places, nobody mentioned Ebn 3my but it’s recently become my favorite place.

I think what I like about them the most is the bread they use. It’s freshly baked and similar to Shakir except it’s smaller and slightly fluffier. I only have the chicken shawerma and their garlic is also pretty on point. Because of the smaller unusual size I tend to have 4 shawermas although sometimes I could do with only 3.

The price of the shawerma is 550fils which is pretty reasonable in this day of age where a lot places are hovering closer to the 1KD mark. They have two locations, one in Jabriya and one in Salmiya according to their Instagram but google maps is showing a location in Sabah Al Salem too so 🤷🏼‍♂️

The only downside is they don’t have juices but other than that they’re great. You can check them out on Instagram @ebn_3my

The service is bad, ruthless workers, they mistake orders when using dilveroo to order from them and when u call to complain they either they answer with attuide (ok so what?) or they will tell u come to us and take ur order (why i did order from deliveroo in the first place? – I dont know.
While commenting on this experience on social media – instagram post-.. They deleted it!!!

From this point i started to believe the google reviews showing how bad they are and decided never to visit or buy from them ever again. They will noy stay enshallah

I was gonna give it a shot, but after that review ofcourse I won’t.
A lot of brands I am coming across lately aren’t customer service-centric unless you take it into social and this bothers me a lot.

Then they shouldn’t enroll in delivery apps, either assure your customer an ultimate best experience or none.

In or worst-case scenario, include a note within the order that we strive to serve you better, but we don’t control the best quality is served via delivery aggregators, so if we failed you, then please let us know and we will work hard fix it for you.

get up close and personal with your customers, instead of “what you see is what you get” attitude.

You talk as if the owner picked up when the reality is a regular restaurant staff who probably just recently got hired answered the phone. Customers should be less demanding and more considerate to the situation that the restaurant industry is going through. When you’re ordering shawerma from a small store today you can’t expect the same customer service as calling Zain to complain about your internet speed. The reality is nobody can afford those quality employees at the moment.

I won’t go into too many details with what’s going on behind the scenes in the restaurant industry but here is a quick summary:

– Covid hit, restaurants were told to shut down, a lot of staff left the country, a lot got fired and left the country

– Covid restrictions eased and restaurants started to reopen but many had fired their employees

– No new employees could be brought into Kuwait, no old employees with valid visas can come back into Kuwait which caused a major scarcity of employees

– This meant whatever employees were left in Kuwait were now being fought over by all the restaurants

– One large company for example started offering double the salaries to poach employees from other restaurants

– This caused a major issue because an employee in the kitchen that would usually make 200kd is now costing 400kd and many places couldn’t afford to pay that

– Lack of employees in the market meant companies had less employees working in the kitchen and front of the house. If you needed 8 employees to run your kitchen, now with the current scarcity and expense of staff you only had 4 or 5. These 5 people still have to produce what 8 previously were producing.

– You might have noticed a lot of restaurants are currently closed, some went out of business, others have shutdown temporarily due to lack of staff.

– My company has a new restaurant thats ready to open but no staff to run it due to all the above

That’s just some of the issues from the restaurant side. Delivery platforms have their own set of issues:

– Less drivers due to many leaving

– More orders than before due to people eating at home because of the pandemic

– More restaurants on the platform due to the pandemic

– All the above meaning slower delivery times for the customer

Ok, maybe I went into too much detail but it’s easy to sit back on the couch and criticize a late delivery or food that arrived cold or an employee on the other end who isn’t a good communicator. People need to be a bit more patient and understanding but I guess most people don’t know about all these issues. Maybe I should post about it actually.

Well put Mark, this is definitely coming from someone who’s in the trenches of the F&B space. lots of matters I wasn’t aware of until you’ve highlighted it here.

I am also glad that I inspired you to start another post about F&B crises.

Keep up the good work!

Their shawarma is delicious but they are pretty stingy with the chicken. Still, I’ll definitely eat from them again because the bread is fresh and chicken is ridiculously juicy
