Never in my life have I ever wanted to try Linux as much as i want to know. Symphony OS is a Desktop computer operating system based on Debian GNU/Linux and Knoppix GNU/Linux. Rather than using the KDE or Gnome Desktop environments as most Linux distributions do, the Symphony OS team created the revolutionary Mezzo Desktop environment. Symphony provides what is consider to be the easiest to use Linux experience there is. [Link]

First Windows Vista Virus
Its been out for a week now only and already there are viruses.. [Link]
Windows Vista is UGLY!
Oh my God I can’t believe how ugly Windows Vista is. I just found a page via SubZeroBlue that has screenshots of the new Windows Vista and I really have to say its even worse then I imagined. Some people have said that Vista borrowed some of the Mac’s interface but I don’t see it, can someone tell me what Microsoft borrowed because if there is anything this ugly on my Mac I can’t find it. Check out the screenshots yourself. [Link]
Fadibou sent me a link to an article comparing Vista to Tiger. Whats cool about the article is that it shows how superior Apple’s OS X is. Through out the whole article the writer compares the 2 products and then talks about how Apple does it better and the coolest thing about all this is that Vista is coming out late 2006 while Apple’s OS X has been around since 2001! Microsoft is still playing catchup to Apple, and now that Apple is going to be using Intel chips, Macs will be cheaper and their market share will grow. Next year is going to be a great year for Apple. [Link]
I still have my original diskette of Netscape Navigator 1.0b. I run it every now and then just for the fun of it on one of the PCs around the house. It loads up really quickly but thats about the only advantage. It renders websites terribly and thats if it is able to open them. But, its nice nostalgia and brings back memories of the good old days when the web was a much quieter place. If you are into old browsers there is a site I used to frequent that has an archive of all the web browsers including some rare ones. Was I the only one who never got what Netomat was supposed to be? What does Vista stand for? The answer:
Viruses, Infections, Spyware, Trojans and Adware.
Wow, this was unexpected. Konfabulator is a company that created widgets for Mac OS X. When apple released Tiger with its own software called dashboard which used their own set of widgets (Apple basically stole the idea from Konfabulator) it hurt Konfabulators business. They vowed to seek revenge by creating widgets for the Windows operating system. Now it seems Yahoo purchased them… good for them. [Link]
That’s according to sources close to the company who requested anonymity. They said that Microsoft unveiled the name in Atlanta on Thursday at the company’s internal sales event, known as the Microsoft Global Sales Briefing, or MGB.
Word of Longhorn’s new name began leaking to the Web on Thursday evening. One Windows site discovered that Microsoft registered the WindowsVista.US domain name. Microsoft is expected to make the official announcement of the new name on Friday morning.
Microsoft has relied primarily on date-oriented names for many of its products, although it has shied away from those on occasion.
The last major version of Windows, code-named “Whistler,” eventually was christened Windows XP.
Microsoft officials declined to comment on the specifics of a “Longhorn-related” news announcement slated for Friday morning.
Longhorn Beta 1 is widely expected to be unveiled next week. Beta 2 is due in the first half of 2006. Microsoft officials confirmed on Thursday the final release is still on track for the latter half of 2006.

Shiira is a web browser written in Cocoa. It uses the KHTML rendering engine provided by Apple’s Web Kit. Since this is the same rendering engine used by Safari, HTML content rendered by Shiira will look the same as in Apple’s own browser. Its pretty compact at only 2.5MB and has some cool features… its only 2.5MB! [Link]
Note: Mac Only
Update: Ok I have decided to make Shiira my primary browser for the next few days. So far its better then Safari and a lot quicker and lighter then FireFox. One major disadvantage is that the WordPress admin area isn’t very compatible with Shiira or Safari.
Since our agency is not allowed to have pirated software and since we recently cleaned up and deleted our pirated software, the whole creativity department was left without a copy of Microsoft Office. So, I have taken it upon myself to hook everyone up with NeoOffice. NeoOffice is based on OpenOffice, which is both a multi-platform and multi-lingual office suite and an open-source project. Compatible with all other major office suites, the product is free to download, use, and distribute. This means this free software will allow us to open and save word documents without having to pay a gazillion dollars in licensing fees. My department aren’t heavy Office users anyway so this will be more then enough. [Link]

My agency just installed iInventory on my mac. According to the software’s website this is what it allows Big Brother to do:
* Compare installed software against licenses
* Spot hardware and software changes
* Check unauthorized software or files like .MP3
Now I just need to find out what port its using so I could block it. I am sure if I google it I can find it..
Urgh I hate it when software keeps crashing on me! I swear I get more crashes on my Mac then I ever got on any Windows machine. I hate like 4 crashes now in 10 minutes!
With iTunes 4.9 you can now browse, find, sample and subscribe to thousands of free podcasts — radio shows delivered over the Internet to your computer — then sync them to your iPod and listen anytime, anywhere. [Link]
I have been listening to the online radiostation KCRW all morning and its great. BUT, some of the cool shows are on at times I am not near a computer or if I am I can’t listen to them loud. So, I wanted a software that would allow me to record radio streams as MP3 and then put them in iTunes for me so I could then throw them onto my iPod. After a bit of searching and asking around I found the software I needed, RadioLover. RadioLover is very easy to use, all you need to do to start recording a stream is to drag and drop the stream from iTunes into RadioLover. Then you just hit record OR you can schedule it to record at a certain time. Whats also cool about RadioLover is that it will automatically tag the songs with the artist, album, radio station and track number. Very practical and its just for $15. Now I will be able to record various cool radio streams and dump them into my iPod so I could listen to them in the car or at work. It only works on Mac’s though, sorry PC users. [Link]
