Just got an SMS from Jazeera Airways, tickets to Dubai or Bahrain are now KD5. [Link]

I was at Marina Mall yesterday meeting up with a friend when I noticed Alghanim Automotive (my sponsors) had the Escalade EXT on display right outside Virgin. The EXT was my favorite version of the old Escalade and I didn’t know the new one was out yet in Kuwait. So I emailed my contact at Alghanim and asked him about the price and this is what I found out. The Escalade EXT costs KD18,500 and if you trade in your car you get 500KD back. Also the regular Escalade (ie: not pickup) which I previously took out for a drive now costs KD19,500 and according to my contact the price is negotiable. Thats around KD1,500 cheaper then when I reviewed it which is pretty cool but still way out of my league.

Nat has had her eye on this phone for a while now and it just got released. Barrak the local dealer dont have it yet but Xpress Cell do and are selling it for KD145. There is a girl who hasn’t changed physically or mentally for 12 years now. The girl is still 9 months old even though she is supposed to be 12 years old. She has a condition that has no name and no other person has this condition. She is stuck being 9 months old forever. There is a video of her and more info after the jump. [Link] #

Yesterday night Choowy Goowy sent me a whole bunch of cookies.

Firstly they now have 3 new flavors:
1- Choowy Light: Choowy Original Cookies but with 50% reduced fat
2- Toffee Choowies: Choowy toffee chips
3- Choowy Solo: Plain Choowy Cookie

The second thing they now have is something called Treat-X. Treat-X is a luxurious box filled with 50 small pieces of cookies of different flavors. When I first got it I was like in shock, it looks really fucking cool and totally unexpected. The whole presentation looks very classy and its filled with sooo many cookies inside and they are like bite size and it had 5 different flavors!

Finally I also got an email from Choowy Goowy guy today telling me that their Booza Booza ice cream is now available on 6alabat.com.

This is very sad news, Alan Fletcher an incredibly talented Graphic Designer passed away on the 21st of September. I can’t believe this news wasn’t more publicized. Alan Fletcher was a founding member of the design agency Pentagram and is among the most influential figures in British graphic design history. I posted about him previously when I wrote about the Commercial Bank of Kuwait logo. This is really really sad news. If you never read my post on the CBK logo then you should since there is a very nice piece written by Alan Fletcher where he talks about his experience coming to Kuwait and the idea behind the logo. H&M does not stand for Her Majesty. It stands for Hennes & Mauritz. I have heard and read numerous people saying it stands for Her Majesty, I don’t know where they got that from. [Link]

I just found out there are two Lebanese groups in Kuwait competiting against each other. There is LebaneseInKuwait.com which I had previously heard about and there also seems to be another group called Cool-Lebanese.com. Both sites are competiting to get the biggest chunk of Lebanese in Kuwait and I am guessing here, but judging by the websites, it looks like LIK is winning. Although the Cool-Lebanese site is pretty funny.

Another reason to choose Qualitynet over Fasttelco.

Fuzz a blogger posted in the forum about how the 777 emergency service failed his uncle. According to Fuzz his uncle had a heart attack on Thursday and his cousin was the only person with hus uncle at the time and so his first reaction was to call for help by dialing 777. Problem is no one ever picked up. He tried calling them over and over and over but no one picked up the line.

How could no one be there to pick up an emergency phone call? A quick search online shows this has happened atleast one other time. CyberRowdy another blogger tried calling 777 to inform them of a safety problem when a traffic light at a major intersection stopped working. He called them 8 times and no one picked up. Another member in the forum posted that his Aunt passed away last year even though 777 did respond. According to the writer when the response team arrived they refused to touch his aunt because she was a woman and so did not perform CPR on her. They didn’t even help get his aunt into the Ambulance!

I am sure there are more examples where 777 failed to answer and the thing is, even if they don’t answer only one time that is still a MAJOR problem. Personally we used 777 once here at the office and the response time was fast so I myself never had a problem with 777. But, if there comes a time where I need them I would probably want someone to drive me to the hospital instead of waiting for 777.

Fuzz’s uncle passed away on Thursday because no one at 777 picked up the phone. Wouldn’t it have been better if the KD200 given out to every citizen was instead used to improve something as important as the medical service in Kuwait? Instead of donating money to rebuild Lebanon wouldn’t it have been better to first fix an important problem like the 777 emergency department?

Krispy Kreme is opening in Marina Crescent right next to Biella, where the Cuppicino place used to be. They have a Krispy Kreme opening soon sign outside and construction has already started inside. Now thats a cool location.

One of the coolest features of iTunes 7 is the album cover browser. Problem is if you don’t have the album art its pretty useless. iTunes does come with an option called “Get Album Artwork” but you need an iTunes music store account to get it working and to get an iTunes music store account you need a US credit card. Sucks but there is some good news. Before iTunes 7 when there was no “Get Album Artwork” option I used to use a script called Fetch Art to download the album covers. I just tried it now and it is still working with iTunes 7 so I figured some people might find this script usefull. Its only works on Macs though so PC users need to find another option. [Link]
