Just passed by the Apple Store in Muthana Complex called Solize. I got some Mac prices which surprisingly turned out to be pretty good. Not cheaper then the States but pretty close specially if you consider shipping and customs. Here are the prices:

My previous Oakley’s broke a few weeks ago, the model was Minute Black with Black Iridium lenses and the rate of transmission of the lens was only 10%. Since there is a volleyball tournament tomorrow I decided I needed to get new shades. I found some really cool ones in the market, my favorite was the Oakley XX model, but the problem was I only found it in Metallic Black with Black Iridium Polarized lenses. Polarized lenses are really expensive and add up to the price of the shades. The XX model I saw cost KD60 which was over my KD50 budget I had set. My previous Minute’s only cost me KD33 and I was hoping to find something just a bit more expensive. So I kept looking for a non polarized version which would bring the price down under KD50 but I couldn’t find any. So I ditched the XX model and spotted the Straight Jacket version which was Black and used a Gold Iridium lens. I think the golden lens gives me the adventurer type of guy look which goes pretty well with Nats Jeep. The price was KD40 which was under my KD50 budget and so I got them. When I put them on outside in the car I noticed a problem though. Everything around me was yellow. When I tried it in the store I hadn’t noticed it but outside it became pretty obvious. I hate the yellowish tint and it fucks with my eyes color balance. The rate of transmission is decent though at 12%, not better then my older lenses but still good enough. Hopefully this yellow tint crap issue is only temporary and I won’t notice it once I get used to it. Oh one thing I noticed, Perla Nera is too expensive. The same shades I got for KD40 they were selling it for KD46! Rippoffs..

Muthana Complex is just weird, or atleast the people inside it. This picture might look like a mirror image or something but its actually half a bag glued to the outside of the window, and the other half glued on the inside. So the bag looks like its broken through the glass. Some shop had this on the outside I guess to attract customers. Its like soo fucking strange I mean why would he even bother going through all this trouble? I doubt it will generate more sales but it probably will grab him some attention..

I tried using A9 ages ago but I never got into it. Today Tivo Guy tells me that if you are an A9 regular user you can get a π/2 (thats pi over 2) amount of discount on Amazon. Thats around 1 point something percent off by just using A9. Not a bad idea, so I decided to check out A9 and I was incredibly surprised at how much it has improved since the last time I used it. Was at Virgin 2 days ago, they had some new mac products. They had the Mac Mini which they were selling for around KD220 and the Apple iSight. They also had the Griffin Technology iCurve and the Griffin PodPod. Whats funny is the PodPod costs $9 on amazon but KD9 in Virgin.

Over lunch me and Tivo-Guy were talking about Amazon and how the perfect business would be to have an online store where you never have to update and it would bring you some money in. So when lunch was over I came back to the office and did a bit of searching and I found a free software that sets up an Amazon store on your server that works with your own associate account. I was placing some orders on Amazon today when I decided to get an Amazon Prime account. What is that? Basically for $79 a year I get unlimited 2 day shipping on anything I purchase on their site. I calculated how much I spent on shipping last year and it was in the hundreds so $79 is a good deal. Now whats cooler is that Amazon Prime allows you to invite 4 other household members to use this account. Doesn’t sound interesting.. until you realize ALL of us Aramex users are counted as living in the same household since we all have the same address. So I sent an invite out to Tivo Guy and Nibaq since they’re my best friends. If this works then we are going to have so much fun buying stuff of Amazon. Also if you need anything delivered overnight, as an Amazon Prime member you only have to pay $3.99 to have any of your items shipped overnight. Amazon just keeps getting better.

All I want is a 20cm Tefal frying pan from the Privilege line and I can’t find it. I know I saw it at Sultan Center before but when I went and checked today it wasn’t there. I went to 2 Sultan’s, the Salmiya and Souk Sharq plus City Center Salmiya and this other store that had a large collection of Tefal pans and none have the pan I want. Nat kept bugging me to buy any pan that its all the same, but I told her no. They are NOT all the same. Here are the specs of the Privilege line:

I passed by Al-Ghanim Electronics yesterday because I needed to buy a fridge. While there I also picked up laserprinter and scanner. Last time I bought a laserprinter was in 1996, it was an HP 5L I believe. It was a pretty decent laserprinter but later on in its life I was getting a lot of paper jams. I actually don’t think I ever changed the toner for it either. Thats what I love about laserprinters, you buy them and you forget about them. No need to keep buying expensive ink and if you don’t use it for a month or two, nothing clogs up. So yesterday while checking out the printers, I had my eye on two. One was a HP LaserJet 1012 and the other the LaserJet 1160. The first model was around KD69 while the second one KD120. I was gonna go ahead and buy the cheap one but the thing looked really flimsy and problematic. Plus, since I buy a laserprinter once a decade I figured why not pay a bit more and get something that looks like it will last a lot longer. So I went with the LaserJet 1160. While checking out the printers I remembered nat wanted a scanner. So I turned around and found the scanners section. The choices there were a lot easier. Most of the scanners were unknown brands while the most expensive scanner they had was an HP for KD40. So since I had just paid 120 for a printer, 40 sounded very cheap and I got that. Its the HP Scanjet 3970 scanner.

When I was done paying they got me the boxes for my goodies and to my surprise the printers boxed looked like it was open. I went downstairs and noticed the printer I had chosen was not on display anymore! The fuckers tried to give me the printer on display without telling me. So I complained, they apologized and blamed it on the salesman. They then told me I had to go to the Hawalli branch and pick my printer up from there.

Once home I opened all the boxes (new stuff always smell so nice) and set everything up. Everything works perfectly and looks good. Bit my bit my design studio at home is starting to look and feel like a… design studio.
