Seventeen Inch

I have had a 17inch Powerbook with me now for a couple of days and I have to say I really hate it. I hate it so much that I am sitting here typing this post on an old clamshell ibook. I tried using the Powerbook but its just too huge and uncomfortable to use while lying down on the couch. I really tried to like it but I wasn’t able to and I kept falling back on my clamshell for my browsing. Too bad, I really liked the high resolution screen.

Macworld Boston 1997-The Microsoft Deal

I found this link on Digg today morning. Its the funniest Steve Jobs keynote I have watched. In it he announced his new partnership with Microsoft and then goes and tells everyone how Internet Explorer was going to be the default browser on the Mac. What I found funny is the Apple crowd, everyone was like booing and screaming out “Noooo!!”, I can only imagine how fucked up the experience must have been to them back then. [Link]

Apple.com – 1998

I have been flipping through some old backup CD’s for the past hour trying to find my original copy of Dopewars (DOS version) and while scrimaging through my old stuff I have been finding the strangest things. I never delete anything so I have stuff going back all the way to 1995. While flipping through one of the CD’s I found a folder containing Apple’s main website dating back to 1998 and I decided to upload it for everyone to see. Here it is [Link]

Sony Ericsson K700/K750, GPRS and Macs

Finally got my Mac to connect to my phones GPRS connection. I spent like 30 minutes now trying everything and for a while I thought it must be because both my PowerMac and Nats Powerbook are running OS10.4 but then when I tried it on my clamshell iBook which was running OS10.3 it still didn’t work. After a bit of playing around I found the solution and decided to post it here incase someone in the future does a google search looking for help.

If you have a Sony Ericsson K700 or K750 and are trying to get you Apple computer to connect to your phones GPRS connection using bluetooth, when choosing modem type choose “Ericsson R520 28.8”. I was getting a “No carrier detected” error message while using the default “Ericsson Infrared” selection for the modem which used to work perfectly fine with my older Sony Ericssons T610 and T630.

How easy is it to replace an optical drive on an Apple Powerbook?

The answer.. not easy at all! You basically have to take apart the whole Powerbook just to replace the drive. Check out the step by step guide, it just gets freakier and freakier the nearer you get to the end.

I was thinking of replacing my sisters non-working drive myself, but after seeing this guide, there is no way I am even going to try doing it. [Link]

Path Finder 4

Path Finder 4 is out now for the Mac. Its a software that you can use to replace the default Finder. It provides you with a lot more options and features, its basically everything the default Finder should have been.

This is what one reviewer had to say:

Path Finder is a browser-style file manager developed by a single person that absolutely embarrasses the Mac OS X Finder with its huge feature set. Version 1.0 of Path Finder shipped in 2001 after only 6 months of development. Today’s version 3 is miles ahead of that, and the upcoming version 4 is like the Final Cut Pro of file management. It’s a file browsing tour de force.

Sadly its not free, you get a 21 day trial period but then you got to choke up the cash. Its worth a test drive though. [Link]

Why the MacBook Pro Sucks

Here is an interesting rant by a Mac developer on the problems with the MacBook Pro. Lower screen resolution, slower less capable superdrive, higher power consumption, removal of the firewire800 port, Dialup jack and S-Video output are some of the reasons he mentions. [Link]

Much cooler Mac products?

I just read that Steve Jobs was supposed to announce much more cooler Mac products but decided not to last minute due to supply issues with the Intel chips. The products are not the 12″ and 17″ MacBooks, they are something much more cooler. What could they be??? [Link]

Adobe Lightroom

The photography software Adobe Lightroom beta is out and I downloaded and played around with it for a bit now and it seems cool. The installation file is like only 4MB and the system requirements needed to run are very acceptable. Unlike Aperture, Adobe Lightroom not only runs on my G5 at work but will also run on my older G4 at home. Seems like Adobe really wants to kick Apple’s ass. [Link]

Note: The beta is currently available only for Macs.
