Just found a blog called q8istuff.blogspot.com that has some cool vintage pictures related to Kuwait. I found two posts so far, one of the Free Kuwait demonstrations and meetings in London taken after the Iraqi invasion in 1990, and the second set of pictures are of the Kuwait football team from the late 70’s and early 80’s. The Kuwaiti football ones are extremely fascinating.

If you are going to copy paste articles from blogs and put them on your website at least have the courtesy to link the original blog properly. Gulfnews had no problem copying and pasting my Faloda post onto their website but when it came to copying and pasting my blogs website address they misspelled it and it ended up as 248.am.com!
Its cool they are into blogs and actually publishing them on their website BUT I would do things differently. For one thing I would make the url’s for the blogs at the very least clickable. That way their readers could just click on the links and be taken to our sites helping us get more traffic.
The second thing is I wouldn’t copy and paste blog posts word for word and publish them like that on the site. Instead I would actually get one of the writers to summarize the articles (like we bloggers do) and then provide links to the original posts in case their readers want to read more. That way they would be supporting bloggers again by sending traffic their way.
The way Gulfnews has things set up now they aren’t sending any traffic to the blogs and instead are just using blogs to add more content to their own website. Thats basically stealing since they are taking articles without permission and then not giving anything back in return.
As I said its cool that they are into blogs but I would take things a step further and actually try to support bloggers by sending traffic to them.

As a Nutella freak I found this recipe on how to make Nutella ice cream interesting. Although I was expecting the process to be easier, like just shoving a Nutella jar into the freezer but it urns out its more complicated then that. The second best thing about summer is Faloda sorbet.
The third best thing about summer is Sunkist orange drink.
Faloda, also spelt Faloodeh or Faludeh and is a Persian sorbet made of thin frozen noodles. Its pretty strange but tastes amazing. Really refreshing plus you can add either lemon or rose water to it for extra flavor.
The place I get my Faloda from is located in Kuwait City, opposite Al Rayya mall and under the Baba Taher Iranian restaurant. I think the place that sells it is called Marafie. A small sized portion will set you back 250fils which is the same cost as regular ice cream.
According to Wikipedia, Faloda is one of the earliest forms of frozen desserts, existing as early as 400 BCE.
In 1988 a Kuwait Airways Boeing was hijacked and diverted to Algiers while on its way to Kuwait from Bangkok. The hijacking lasted 16 days and ended with a Naval Officer from the Kuwaiti Royal Family being killed along with another Kuwaiti military person. The Algerian authorities allowed the hijackers to escape in exchange for the remainder of the 110 people aboard to be set free. (Wikipedia)

I have heard a lot about In-N-Out Burger from my friends, everyone who’s tried it tells me that they have the best burgers in the world. I just found this article on Laughing Squid which talks about why it has such a cult following. There is even a picture of their 100 patty, 19,490 calorie burger. We really need more burger places in Kuwait, Wendy’s and A&W should seriously reopen. [Link]
The other day I posted about the horrendous article in Kuwait Times by Mona Al-Fuzai where she talks about how talking to taxi drivers or being friendly with your boss could end up with you getting raped. Well that article has since then been withdrawn from the Kuwait Times website and instead a new article has popped up where Mona tells all her critics that she can write what she pleases and that we all should shut the hell up. I have been playing with Google’s Street View for awhile now and I have to say its the most freakiest and coolest thing at the same time. Its cool for obvious reasons but its freaky because if Google have this kind of technology and they are sharing it with the public, imagine what one of those secret government agencies have for their own use… [Link]

Yesterday some people suggested that the reason behind KFC’s recent addition to the Fish Zinger sandwich is so that they can offer a non-chicken alternative on their menu in case of another bird flu scare. I suggested that if that was the case KFC should have advertised their Colonel Burger. Well turns out there is a story behind that burger. Tat, a reader of the blog commented with the following information:
Business predictions are that bird flu will reappear every summer. Last summer, Egypt’s KFC sales fell almost by half and the Gulf KFC’s by 20 – 25%. Therefore KFC international has come up with non-chicken products to offer alternatives.
The Colonel Burger has been around for a long time. It was a product, started many years back, by Americana locally, to beat a competitor called Jack in the Box; a burger chain concept that dared include fried chicken in their menu. Since the burger is not a KFC product its not advertised too much.
KFC in the gulf will move over to transfat free oil in a few months.
