This is very sad news, Alan Fletcher an incredibly talented Graphic Designer passed away on the 21st of September. I can’t believe this news wasn’t more publicized. Alan Fletcher was a founding member of the design agency Pentagram and is among the most influential figures in British graphic design history. I posted about him previously when I wrote about the Commercial Bank of Kuwait logo. This is really really sad news. If you never read my post on the CBK logo then you should since there is a very nice piece written by Alan Fletcher where he talks about his experience coming to Kuwait and the idea behind the logo. Jazeera Airways put up pictures taken at the aiport yesterday because of their “Fly to Beirut for FREE” campaign. Chairman and CEO Marwan Boodai was actually at the airport himself handing out the free tickets. [Pictures]

Interesting fact: Sailors who were crew members who often went above and below deck, used eye patches to have one eye adjusted for the top deck and the other eye already adjusted for the darkness when suddenly going below deck. The strong sunlight while above deck on an oceangoing vessel could require minutes of adjustment to the dim lighting below deck. With virtually no light sources below deck, sailors would have to rely heavily upon their eyes to adjust. In the critical moments of modifying the rigging, navigating, and especially during battle, those minutes were too precious. A simple switch of the patch from one eye to the other saved time and was more convenient than being temporarily blinded when going between decks. [Link]

Someone asked that question in the forum and I thought it was interesting. In case you didn’t know, the government gave every Kuwaiti KD200 two days ago. So the question is directed to the locals, how are you planning on spending the money? The funniest thing I heard was that some guys were betting KD200 against each other in rounds of Winning Eleven on the PS2. Easy come easy go..

Krispy Kreme is opening in Marina Crescent right next to Biella, where the Cuppicino place used to be. They have a Krispy Kreme opening soon sign outside and construction has already started inside. Now thats a cool location.

On my way back from dinner yesterday around 10:30PM I noticed a new store had opened just before Marina Mall opposite Eastpak. The store located under the Ponderosa restaurant is called Bullz Auto or something like that. According to a friend of mine it opened up on Thursday.

I took a quick stroll through the store and they basically sell stuff for pimping your car. They had a ton of rims, front and rear car lights, sound systems and a ton of small accessories. Downstairs was closed but it looked like they had clothing, could be biking gear or something.

I only had my phone cam with me so the pictures are crappy. Outside they had a pimped out Corvette and Avalanche while on the inside they had a pimped out H2 with 28-inch rims. I will pass by another day and hopefully take better pics and check out what gear they have downstairs.

My friend just asked to borrow my camera because he wanted to go shoot pictures of his car. I asked him why and he told me MBC have this thing at the moment where if you are bored of your car or don’t like it, send them a picture of it and they might choose to pimp your ride. So I checked the MBC website and it turned out to be true, they are now accepting applications.

How long has this been up for? I just found out that Monster.com the largest job search website has a gulf edition located at MonsterGulf.com. This can’t be good for Bayt.com.

update: I just checked the domains whois info and the domain was purchased on June 1st, 2006 meaning the site is very new, most probably less then a month old.
