Google knowing their Internet supremacy isn’t going to last forever have decided to expand into retail with the launch of their first ever Google laundromat. The Google laundromat is Google’s first store worldwide and is located in Jahra. Their next endeavor? The Google Barbershop followed by their first food project, Google Shawerma.

I’ve seen a lot of accidents on the Gulf Road but I think this morning was the first time in which I saw two cars actually end up on the Gulf Road median. Luckily none of the cars hit a lamppost but I still believe that the Gulf Road would be much safer if they installed collapsible lampposts (Video below).

I was at Dean & Deluca when I noticed what looked like a new section filled with vodka bottles. Once I got closer I realized that what I thought was vodka turned out to be nearly two dozen kinds of high end water bottles. About 18 people on U.S. military bases in Kuwait have tested positive for swine flu, a U.S. Central Command spokeswoman said Friday.

They are the first cases reported in Kuwait. It remains unclear whether the virus has spread to the civilian population.

I passed by Cold Stone today at the Avenues and had a scoop of chocolate ice cream mixed with kit kat and marshmallows. The staff were super friendly and were singing and throwing scoops up in the air. They’re off to a good start.

I just heard that the Los Angeles based franchise for the upscale frozen dessert restaurant Pinkberry was taken by Alshaya and that they will be opening their first branch at the Avenues. It will be the first Pinkberry branch outside California and New York. According to the Pinkberry facebook group they should open up before the end of the year. [Link]

Just found this local online shop that carries some cool Grendizer and Sanshiro figurines and I am already regretting it since I now want to buy a whole bunch of things. The prices seem pretty reasonable which is making my life difficult. I must resist! [Link]

I don’t know how many of you remember Mogahwi or even know what it is so I figured I would post about them. Mogahwi I believe is one of the best if not the best stationary and art supply store in Kuwait. They’ve been around in Kuwait since 1940 but the Salmiya branch which I’ve been visiting since I was a kid I think has been around for 30 years but not really sure. The place hasn’t changed much since they first opened, I think they still even use the same bags. They’ve got everything there from the regular stuff like pens and papers to the more interesting stuff located in the basement which is the art supplies. I’ve taken a few shots of the place which you can see below. I don’t think they get as many customers as they used to back in the 80s and 90s so I hope they don’t close down. They’re located in the old Salmiya near Alghanim Electronics.

I go to Macaroni Grill quite often and mostly because of their garden salad with sweet Italian dressing and the grilled salmon dish.

Although I started going there because of their 2,430 calories spaghetti and meatballs dish, the grilled salmon quickly became my favorite dish. The fillet is covered with a savory honey glaze (which rocks!) and is usually served with orzo pasta but I have them swap it out with mashed potatoes instead.

Macaroni Grill is located at the Avenues, outside near Chili’s.

Update: I recently got food poisoning from Macaroni Grill (from the fish according to them) and so have completely stopped eating there.

I went jet skiing today and took my new cheap ass water proof camera (pictured above) to try out. The result? Astonishing! Because the camera is so cheap and poorly built I think while winding the film or rewinding, the internal plastics rubbed against the film scratching it. The end result were photos that look like they were taken decades old! The heavy vignetting (the darkening near the corners) also came out pretty cool. Overall I love the effect and it came as a complete surprise.

I just got an American mango (top left of photo) from Dean & Deluca to try out and it was terrible, nothing like regular mangoes. It just tasted really really horrible, the worst mango I have ever had and by far! I hope I’ve not been scarred for life..

Three Kuwaitis, Muhanad Al-Sultan, Husain Ashkanani and Ali Al-Bairami are going to ride their motorcycles around the world through 17 countries in a trip that will last around 120 days. They’ve set up a blog called “Our Shared Planet Motorcycle Adventure” where they will be documenting the ride which I think takes off from today.
