Pretty Black Nano

black ipod nano

A guy in the office got four iPod Nano’s, 3 black and 1 white. It has attracted a large crowd here in the office and everyone is ooohing and wowing. It looks extremely tiny in person, it’s very cool. Definetly going to reorder this now instead of the Sony Walkman Bean which I found out today you have to use a special Sony software to copy music onto the walkman and the software doesn’t work with Macs.

Update: Ok, I am just confusing myself to much. I just decided that I am going to hold out till the next generation iPod gets updated so then I can carry all my MP3s with me. I don’t need super tiny MP3 player. Will use the Shuffle till the new iPods come out.

Walkman Bean™ MP3 Player

sony bean walkman

Where did this come from?? I was just at the SonyStyle website when I found the Walkman Bean. The MP3 player looks really cool but the coolest thing about it is the built-in USB connector! So you can use the Walkman as a flash memory drive and a MP3 player. A full charge also lasts 50 hours! A 3 minute charge will give you a 3 hour charge! They come in funky colors and the most expensive one, the 1GB is only $149! The only downside, the ONLY downside is the fact that it doesn’t play AAC files.. but I guess I could get over that… [Link]

Major iPod Nano Problems

Seems a lot of people have been having problems with their Nano. The surface of the device scratches very easily and its upsetting lots of people. I checked out some of the pictures and it got me really worried. Luckily my Nano hadn’t shipped yet from Amazon so I just canceled my order. Will wait and see how serious of an issue this is and if Apple will fix it. [Link]

Delicious Library

delicious library

I have a lot of CDs, Videogames and Books and it has always been a dream of mine that I could organize them in some sort of catalog so I could keep track of what I have. I believe I finally found what I have been looking for all my life, Delicious Library.

Delicious Library is a software for the Mac that allows you to organize your stuff very easily. There are various ways you could add stuff to the library, at the moment I am entering the bar code numbers manually and the software automatically searches various sources online and then returns with a whole bunch of info on the product I just entered. Current prices, reviews, ratings, album cover, and a ton more info just by entering the bar code. If you have iSight or any other firewire camera you don’t even have to manually type the bar code numbers, just take the bar code and place it in front of the camera and it will automatically scan it just like the supermarket people use the bar code scanners. If you are lucky enough to have a bar code scanner (cuecat owners click here) you could also use it to input information into Delicious Library. You could even add stuff by typing in the CD or book titles, for example I typed in Blind Melon Soup and it returned 2 results, I clicked on the right one and thats it, its automatically added into my library.

After you add all your items to the catalog you can then search for songs, artists, authors, publishers etc.. you can even have it print out the whole catalog for you with all your items listed. You can add notes under each item also for example the name of the person you lent the item to and even find items similar to one you have highlighted.

Delicious Library isn’t free though, it costs $40 but its worth it. So make sure you check it out. [Link]

Note: If you are interested in a cuecat modified to read barcodes, you can find them on Amazon for only $9.99. [Link]

Note 2:
If you are a PC user there is a software called Readerware that supposedly does the same thing except not as pretty looking. [Link]

Celebrity CSI

Yesterday I watched a cool episode of CSI, it starred Wil Wheaton and Stephen Baldwin. I had actually been waiting to watch Wil Wheaton in CSI since I first read about it on his blog. For those of you who don’t know, Wil Wheaton played the part of Wesley Crusher, Dr. Beverly Crusher’s son on Star Trek The Next Generation. TNG is one of my favorite shows so I am a big fan of Wil Wheaton. Sadly though he didn’t have a very large role in the show which was disappointing since I had been expecting to see a lot more of him. Wil played the part of a crazy homeless guy who was a suspected of murdering a kid. Having Stephen Baldwin also in the same episode was awesome, he played the part of a cocaine dealer and we got to see him a lot more then Wil. I hope a lot more celebrities start popping up on CSI, makes the show even more cooler.

Intel Vs Mac Speed Test

Tivo-Guy just purchased a new machine Intel machine to run OS X and he installed and ran Xbench and here are the results:

My Mac at Home

Score: 44.86 46.16

Tivo-Guy’s Mac mini
mac mini

Nat

640MB RAM
Score: 25.13

I was expecting Tivo-Guy to get a much higher score then mine but surprisingly we are pretty close. My brothers (Ripping Fabric) and Nats Powerbooks were the slowest but thats expected. Although again I was expecting my brothers Powerbook to be a lot faster then Nats.

Update: I added a Mac mini and G5 Powermac to the list above.

Update 2: I rearranged my hard drives and somehow I now score a 46 instead of a 44 bringing me 1 point difference between my Mac and Tivo-Guys Intelmac.

Simpsons House Made a Reality

simpsons home

Some hardcore Simpsons fan in Australia actually went and built the Simpsons home from the cartoon. The interior is like a duplicate from the show with the same furniture and paintings on the wall. I wouldn’t live in the house but it does look pretty cool. Now if only someone would build Moe’s Bar.. here in Kuwait. More pics after the jump. [Link]

My Next Alarm Clock?

sound bridge

Just checked out the new Roku SoundBridge Radio and it looks really sweet. It has built in wifi to connect to the web and gives me access to over 10,000 radio stations and even allows me to connect to my itunes. The only thing putting me off is the price tag of $350. The only way I would be willing to pay this much is if the sound turn out to be pretty good. If it turns out to be built using some cheap ass speakers it might be better off for me to get a media streamer and connect it to my Nakamichi alarm clock. [Link]

Formula 1

f1 logoI hate the fact that Formula 1 isn’t a popular motor sport in Kuwait. Actually I don’t think any kind of motor sport is popular in Kuwait. When I was in Lebanon if there was a Formula 1 race on TV you wouldn’t find a single person on the streets. Since I have moved back to Kuwait I have lost touch with the Formula 1 world. The races take place on Sundays which is a day off in the majority of the world but not in Kuwait. This means when the races are on I am at work with no access to television. Anyway I think I found a good site for F1 news. I used to check out F1.com and other F1 sites but they are all too heavy on the graphics and not very easy to navigate. Thew new site I am currently checking out all the time is the BBC F1 section.. except I use the text version of the page. Check it out, its very practical to use. [Link]

Kuwaiti Embassy Bombed

Two persons were injured by an explosion that rocked the offices of the Kuwaiti embassy’s information center in Beirut’s commercial thoroughfare of Hamra at mid-morning Monday. There were conflicting reports about the blast which was attributed first to a hand grenade, then to a letter bomb and then to a parcel bomb. More info when available.

Update: Turns out it was just a guy who brought a grenade with him to work and was playing with it when it went off.

Miskan Plane

Meskan

I received the following email from jetblast2k:

Hi Mark, we usually know our aircrafts by their tail number, but today I noticed the nickname of 9K-ANC, an A340-300 of KAC, and took this shot for you. Check the [Link]

I was surprised to find out that Kuwait Airways planes had nicknames and I was really surprised to find out that one is called Miskan (although they spell it Meskan). Next time I fly with KA I will try to find out the nickname of the plane I am going to be flying with. If you have never seen the pictures taken by jetblast2k you should since he has some really wonderful stuff. [Link]

Note:
For those of you who don’t know, Miskan is a photography project I currently involved in. [Link]
