iPod Video doesn’t like phones

I was just talking to TivoGuy and asking him about his iPod Video since we got both ours yesterday. He told me it was great except the interference from the cell phone messed the ipod up. So I tried it myself, I made a call while holding my phone next to the iPod Video and the thing went crazy, the volume just kept going up and down quickly non-stop. I can’t believe this, now every time someone calls me on my cell phone my ipod is going to go crazy. Sucks.

Update: Here is a crappy video showing what I am talking about. Will shoot a better video in the evening with a better camera.

Update 2: Just renamed the video file because some sites have been linking to it directly. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Coming to America

Yesterday night I watched Coming to America. I watched it for the first time back in 1989 and really liked it so I figured I would watch it again since I had completely forgotten it.

Anyway the movie wasn’t bad the second time around but the coolest thing about the movie were the very famous actors who played very small roles in the movie because they were nobodys back then. For example it was the first movie Cuba Gooding Jr. acted in. Cuba played the role of a “Boy Getting Haircut”. He was an extra with no talking part or anything! It was really funny watching him in such a crappy role! Second cool actor was Samuel L. Jackson. Coming to America wasn’t his first movie but it was one of his early ones. In the movie Jackson plays the role of a “Hold-Up Man”. Again he didn’t have a name but at least he did have a talking part. Eriq La Salle who plays Dr. Peter Benton on the TV show ER had a major role in the movie playing the part of Daryl, the boyfriend of the chick Eddie Murphy gets a crush on. The final person who isn’t as famous but looked very familiar turned out to be Victoria Dillard (her pic). I checked her out on IMDB and turns out she used to be in the TV show Spin City. In the movie she played the role of a “bather”. She basically was topless in the bath tub bathing Eddie Murphy. Its really weird watching very famous actors act in movies were they were still very unfamous. I guess everyone does start as a nobody.

3-Hour Dietâ„¢

Could this actually work? This diet suggests you eat every 3 hours. According to them if you eat every 3 hours you keep your metabolism constantly set in motion which in return means you will keep burning fat. Sounds a bit too good to be true but it doesn’t sound to far fetched either. [Link]

Crystal Pepsi

Crystal

I was reading Edjamacated’s post on the discontinuation of the Vanilla Coke drinks. What grabbed my attention was that he mentioned that you would soon find boxes being sold on eBay. Well he is absolutely fucking right and to show you how right he is check this.

Back in 1992 Pepsi introduced a new Pepsi called Crystal and it was supposed to taste like regular Pepsi except it was colorless like 7up. Well it didn’t do very well and the product was discontinued a year later in 1993. Now if you go to eBay and do a search for Crystal Pepsi, 12 years after the product was discontinued, people are still selling bottles of it on eBay! Crazy shit. [Link]

Eric Spiekermann Blogs!

Eric Spiekermann designer of my second favorite typeface Meta has a fucking blog! Most of his posts are posted in German and English which makes things easy for me since I neither speak nor read German. My favorite typeface is Frutiger by the way which was designed by Adrian Frutiger. A good friend of mine was very lucky to have met him at a design conference. When he was introduced to Adrian Frutiger he told him that Frutiger was his favorite typeface, Adrian replied asking him at what point size, my friend replied saying 9 ofcourse.

Anyway here is Eric’s blog. [Link]

Movie Trivia: Lost in Translation

First interesting trivia:
Francis Ford Coppola made a commercial for Suntory whiskey with legendary Japanese director Akira Kurosawa in the 1970s. This event later influenced a salient plot point in his daughter Sofia’s movie, Lost in Translation.

Second interesting trivia:
In the movie Lost in Translation while shooting the whiskey ad in the movie, the director kept telling Bill Murray to make expressions more like Sean Connery. Turns out Sean Connery actually did do whiskey commercials and you can watch them by clicking here.

Fight Fight Fight!!

fight fight fight

Fuck my luck, I have been waiting all day for a decent shot of something and finally when it happens turns out my camera was set on manual focus! Me and Nat where standing at the traffic light which had 3 lanes. We were parked the third row middle. Suddenly a car pulls up beside us with two people in it. The passenger wearing local clothing gets out and goes to the car infront of him and starts punching the passenger there. The driver then follows him and starts kicking in the side windows of the car infront of him and smashing them. By then I had my camera out (it was on my side since I was shooting earlier) and I started taking pictures. Then I realized my camera was out of focus and wasnt focusing because it was set on manual. Suddenly the car that was getting attacked climbs the sidewalk, nearly runs over the guy in local clothing who was trying to hang on to the car, and then crosses the red light nearly hitting an oncoming car. The two attackers get back into their car and rush off in a high speed chase through traffic. Our light turned green so I tried to follow them but it was impossible since they were weaving in through heavy traffic dangerously and then they ran another red light. It was such a rush watching all this happen and it all happened so fast. Damn my luck for having my camera in manual focus. I am sure they would have been interesting pictures. The picture above was the only picture I was able to take after quickly putting my camera on autofocus again. You can see the local guy on the floor and the car jumping off the curb through traffic. You can also see where that car was parked.

Alarm Clocks are Bad

This is a good post by a student on how to wake up feeling fresh and energetic instead of grumpy and sleepy. The student suggests a very simple method of setting up 2 alarms, the first one would play music at a very low volume while the second alarm will ring at your normal volume. The thinking behind this is you set your first music alarm at very low volume to play at a time you want to wake up. If you wake up to the music you would probably be in light sleep and you will wake up feeling good. You set the second alarm to the latest time you would want to wake up, as a backup in case the first alarm didn’t wake you up. If you wake up to the second alarm you would wake up the normal way you wake up every day.

You can read the full details when you click the link, I am gonna try this myself tomorrow morning. [Link]

Update: Dogbert gave me a link to an alarm clock that runs away and hides after it rings so you wouldn’t be able to snooze it off, thats fucking crazy! [Link]

An Oldie but a Goodie

bic ad

This is one of my favorite ads and its for the BiC permanent marker. Since Jimi Hendrix died in 1970, this ad is showing how permanent the marker really is. Say this woman is around 60 years old now that means she got the autograph when she was max 30 years old, that would mean the marker lasted over 30 years. Here is a link to the larger version.
