A friend of mine shot a short video of the storm that hit us tonight. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this much lightning, it was insane and lasted a pretty long time. [Video]
Not sure whats up with Marina Crescent and whale sharks but this is the second time one has gotten stranded there. Back in July 2009 a whale shark got stuck there and ended up being rescued using the marine parachute bed. [YouTube]
Last summer a group of students from the Kuwait University went on a trip to the Himalayas. They first arrived to New Delhi in India and then took an 18 hour bus ride to Manali. They stayed there for 3 days prepping and then headed on a 5 day trek of the Himalayas. Whats cool is they actually filmed their trip and uploaded it onto YouTube. They’ve got them divided up into 5 parts and you can check them [Here]
The video above is a quick summary of their trip. Looks like something I would want to do one day.
Hearts of Palm is a short movie set in August 2nd 1990 and deals with Kuwaiti students living in Miami Florida during the Iraqi Invasion of Kuwait. It’s written and directed by Faisal AlNashmi, a film student studying in the University of Miami. I’ve seen quite a few short movies related to the invasion but they’ve always been from the perspective of people inside Kuwait so I thought it was interesting for this film to be from a perspective of the students studying abroad. I can imagine it must have been very difficult for them being all across on the other side of the world and not being able to do anything other then sit and watch the news. [Video Link]
Bader, a friend of mine who also won the Tamiya 501x buggy from the My Toy Facebook competition uploaded a video of his car in action around the My Toy offroad track. It looks very cool, I’m nearly finished building my car as well, just waiting for my motor and batteries to get delivered by Aramex. I don’t know what camera Bader mounted on the small 1/10 scale buggy but I already asked him and once he emails me a response will post it here. [YouTube]
My Toy have ended their 501x giveaway and have started a new competition in which you need to send them an edited RC car video. I sent them the one I made of my FJ Cruiser (below) which I think is a pretty cool video specially since it was my first.
This is a video of the fire that happened on Thursday in Shuwaikh. I passed by the area today and it looks like the fire damaged around 4 stores on the ground floor and burned across the whole top floors. [YouTube]
Blogger 7ajiDude posted a video of his experience trying out the Flight Experience simulator at 360 Mall which I posted about awhile back. It looks and sounds pretty realistic. Here is a link to his post, it’s in Arabic [Link]
I loved this commercial and they found some amazing lookalikes. It’s actually a spoof of JK’s wedding dance video which was a huge online hit around two years ago. Even The Office spoofed it in one of their episodes but T-Mobile still managed to make their version interesting enough to set it apart from the other two. [YouTube]
965malls uploaded the video above which he shot of some teenagers fighting underneath his building. What makes his video special is the fact a car ends up running those kids over. According to him no one got hurt as a result.
The teenagers fighting bit I can easily relate to since my neighborhood in Salmiya has turned into the ghetto (plus a garbage dump) due to the fact I have a billiard place in the building next door. Fights amongst teenagers and young adults are practically a daily occurrence and women getting harassed by them has also become the norm.
Come to think of it I don’t know why I don’t use my blog to help improve my area by highlighting problems like I previously did [Here]. I’ve recently been considering moving out of my neighborhood because of all the garbage and fights but why should I move? I’ve been on this street for 30 years now and I shouldn’t have to move because the garbage collecting company isn’t collecting the garbage or the fact that there are no longer any street cleaners as well picking up garbage or that the cops don’t care about any of the violations that are happening on the street. I’ve mentioned this before but there is actually a brothel in the building next door and I have to say I’m glad they’re there since they’ve actually cleaned up a bit of the area around their building. Things are so bad I was actually considering hiring my own street cleaner just to take care of the area around my building!
Faisal Al-Salem is a Kuwaiti who lived in Japan for 10 years and is the lead singer for UNITED, one of the biggest thrash metal bands in Japan. He goes by the name Kenshin over there and the video above is for one of their songs. [YouTube]
You can find out a bit more on Faisal Al-Salem (Kenshin) by checking out an interview with him [Here]
If you would like to visit the bands website as well here is the [Link]
Phaidon Press (the best publisher in the world, period) uploaded a video to YouTube where the legendary photo-journalist and photographer Steve McCurry shares the amazing story behind the famous picture of the camels in front of the burning oil wells. [YouTube]
I got this footage yesterday when I met the Al Hamra Tower people. It’s a time-lapse from the start of construction back in December 2005 all the way up to February 2011. They’ve had two cameras pointed at the site from the very start, one is located on Al Raya the other on Al Khalejiah. [YouTube]
Found this video on Buz Fairy of cars on the highway driving the wrong way on the highway trying to escape the dust storm. I thought it looked like a disaster movie, check it out above, the video gets interesting at 0:45. [YouTube]
This is a really well made local parkour video, actually, it’s easily the best locally produced extreme sports video I’ve seen to date. The parkour team in the video above is a new Kuwaiti team that has been training for a couple of years now and this is their first video. The members are:
Members (الأعضاء):
Jaber Ali Al-Kinany (جابر علي الكناني)
Mohammad Ahmad Al-Attar (محمد أحمد العطار)
Yousif Jawad Al-Attar (يوسف جواد العطار)
Barrak Abbas Al-Qallaf (براك عباس القلاف)
Abdulmohsen Sleem Al-Roomy (عبدالمحسن سليم الرومي)
Abdullah jalal Sheshtar (عبدالله جلال ششتر)
Remember the large mural (above) which I posted about awhile back? Well Cajie a reader of the blog took photos of the mural and stitched all the photos together to form one very wide image. You can check out the large image of the mural [Here]
