V3x Day 2

Ok since I had a lot of free time yesterday I was able to discover the Motorola V3x inside out. I had a lot of time to play with it, customize it, change it etc.. and I am happy that I got it just still stunned by the operating system. The V3x operating system is weird, sometimes I feel that it is too basic while other times I marvel at its customizability. There are some things I don’t understand why Motorola didn’t simplify or make easier to use, its just weird but over all it reminds me more of the Sony Ericsson OS more then the Nokia which is a good thing for me.

A really cool feature in the phone which helped make my move over smooth is the fact that you can reorder the menu system. Since I am used to my Sony Ericsson K700 I was able to reorder my Motorola menu to match my K700. Meaning on my K700 when you first came into the menu the Messages option was in position number 5 which is the second row middle icon. On the Motorola it was by default in position number 7 which is third row left side. Using the Main Menu personalizing option under settings I was able to place the Messages icon in position number 5, Settings in position 12, Internet in position 2 etc.. This made my move to the V3x much smoother, I felt right at home quickly. Even under the Messages menu I was able to move the SMS Inbox up to position number 2 and move my Voicemail inbox down to position 3. I really love this feature.

The worst feature in the operating system has to be when changing the ringer volume. Even if my phone is on silent, even if the keypad sound is turned off, no matter what I do, everytime you try to increase or decrease the ringer volume from the system menu you get loud ear piercing beeps which in a quiet office (or even a loud one) is very fucking annoying. Its very embarrassing and rude.

So far everything seems cool. The operating system is way faster then my K700 (aren’t all) and its probably the same speed as the K750 or a tiny bit faster which is really good. It doesn’t have any major features, the camera is 2MP which is the norm and it has 3G and video conferencing which i doubt I will ever use. But, I think thats what I like about the phone… that its a phone. All I really need to do with a phone is make and receive phone calls, send and receive SMS, synchronize my numbers with iSync (you need this plugin) and take pictures whenever I need to (usually of product model numbers in stores or price tags). This phone allows me to do all that with great ease and speed. The fact that I can charge my phone using any standard USB cable and the fact that I can mount the phone on my computer like an external hard drive are extra bonuses.

This phone is just a phone and so far it seems like it does everything right. Will use it for a week or two before writing a review on it.

My V3x

My V3x

Today morning I checked the comments on my post from yesterday called The V3x and I read a comment by Omar who said I could find the V3x for KD120 which is basically the same price as the phone on Amazon. So I called Fono up and asked them if they had a version with only an English keypad and they said yes, so awhile ago I went and picked up my phone from Fono. First impressions.. well I realized how ugly and out dated my Sony Ericsson K700 is. The phones OS does seem confusing but I am guessing its because I have been using Ericsson for most of my life. The coolest feature on the phone is the fact that I can charge it using my Nikon’s USB cable. The data/charging port on the V3x is your standard USB input found on most USB devices like external harddrives and digital cameras. Very practical. The screen inside is gorgeous, very sharp and huge! Gonna finish up some urgent work and then fiddle with my phone a bit. I hate new phones since I am always worried about scratching them..

update: just tried video calling with K.thekuwaiti, I feel so futuristic now

update 2: to get it working with isync you need to install a plugin which you can find [here]

Geo and his Dog-e-Tag

Geo and his Dog-e-tag

Here is another picture I took of Geo yesterday. In this shot you can see his Dog-e-Tag, I have to say when I first got it a few months back I thought it wouldn’t last a week with Geo. He spends most of his time biting it and chewing it like a baby-sucker and the tag is still in excellent condition. Its unscratched, undamaged and just needs a washing.. its extremely durable.

Stock Tips?

I have some extra cash saved up which I just decided I would use to invest in the stock market. Anyone got any stock tips? Also I am planning on setting up an online trading account with Mutadawil, does anyone have a better suggestion? I wanted NBK but I need like minimum $25,000 to setup an online trading account with them.

I need a new phone

Samsung

I am currently using a Sony Ericsson K700i. To summarize my experience.. it sucks. The phone is buggy, sluggish and ugly. Recently its also been acting very strange like for example the down button would stop working or my call list would show that I called people whom I never did. Not only that but sometimes when my friends call it won’t show me their names just their numbers.. even though their names are on my phone. Its really starting to piss me off and so I need a new phone. My problem is I don’t like paying too much for a phone, you can call me cheap but I personally just don’t see myself paying a lot for phones. I still remember when the Sony Ericsson T610 got released and I forked out KD220 for it back then but those days are gone. Now my budget is KD100 or less.

What I need is the following:
– Bluetooth
– Good looks
– extremely responsive system
– No Nokia

Yesterday I saw the Samsung SGH-E530 (pictured above) and it looked pretty cool. Although I dislike Samsung the phone looked really slick, it had bluetooth, a beautiful colored screen on the inside and a gorgeous OLED screen on the outside. The price at the dealer was KD95 so I should be able to find it even cheaper outside. The problem is the phone is targetted towards woman which would make me very girlie. Another option I was considering was the Motorolla Razr, I haven’t done any research on it yet nor do I know how much it cosst but I will check on that later tonight. Can anyone recommend me a phone?

update: seems like the Treo 700P is launching this month, I am going to wait for it and check it out before I take my decision. [Link]

McDonalds increase prices AGAIN!

i\'m hatin\' itA few days ago I posted about how Hardees recently increased their prices well today I passed by McDonalds for breakfast and it turns out they just increased their prices as well! The thing is this is the second time they increase their prices. I posted about their first price increase last July when the majority of their combos had their price increase by 50fils. Well they just did it again but this time by 100fils. Even the breakfast menu got effected this time with the regular breakfast combo now costing 850fils compared to the 700fils it used to cost before.

So I picked up my breakfast combo and drove off thinking about how these price increases suck when I stuck my hand in the bag and realized they forgot to give me my hashbrowns! So not only did I pay 150fils extra compared to what I used to pay but they also forgot my hashbrown. Luckily I had their phone number stored on my phone so I called them up to complain. They apologized and told me I could pass by again for the hashbrown, I told them I was on my way to work but it wasn’t a problem, I just didn’t want it to happen again.

Nice way to start a morning..

Bye Bye Texas Chicken?

An anonymous reader posted the following comment under the Hardees ThickBurger post:

According to customer polls and sales in the US, the big patty is what everyone wants, more meat for less money! So Hardees decided to change sizes. Its comparatively cheaper to get a bigger burger in the US. Blame the high prices on the franchisee here! If the fries in hardees taste different its because they have changed cooking oil, its local cooking oil now. BTW, Americana has bought out Texas Chicken, so say goodbye to it!

So for those of you complaining about the weird tasting fries at Hardees you have your answer. I am surprised by the last part that Americana bought out Texas Chicken. That sucks, Texas Chicken must have been hurting KFC’s business badly or else I don’t see why Americana would buy them out. Does this mean Americana will shut down Texas Chicken? I don’t think so but they might mess it up…

Review: Hardees Chili Lava

hardees chili lava

When I saw the new ads for Hardees advertising the Chili Lava I fell in love. I haven’t had Hardees since I started my no fast food diet late last year, but I love Chili and I really love the Chili Hot Dog at Hardees so to have a Chili Burger was like wow! Sadly though the Chili Lava was a disappointment. Don’t get me wrong here, there was nothing wrong with the burger, just don’t expect to get what you see in the picture. The burger looked pretty boring but I liked how they presented it to me.. in a plastic basket covered with a sheet of paper with my curly fries and burger on top. It looked like something you would get at Fuddruckers or TGIF. Taste wise I was expecting it to be wilder but it was pretty normal. I would most probably have the burger again its just that I think their ads over hyped it so I was expecting more flavor. My biggest issue with the burger is the price, the single lave combo costs KD1.550 while the double lava combo costs KD1.750. When did the combos get so expensive? Even the regular Mushroom & Swiss or Roast Beef N’ Chedder combos cost like KD1.400 and I remember the Roast Beef used to always be cheaper then the burgers. Because of the expensive price and the lack of shock and awe I give the Chili Lava a 3.5 out of 5. [Chili Lava Poster]

Execution by hanging

Five people just got executed today morning for crimes ranging from rape to drug smuggling. The interesting thing is it turns out I could see the hangings from my office window. I used the office camera with a 120mm lens to zoom in as much as I could onto the hanging yard and if you look at the picture, on the left side you can see people wearing black. I think this picture was taken after one of the people got hanged because you can see the trap door open and some people dressed in black underneath it… [Picture]

H3 Ride & Drive

H3 Ride & Drive

On Friday I picked up my friend and we went and had lunch at IKEA before heading off to the H3 Ride & Drive event. When we got to the location it was like arriving in the middle of no where, we couldn’t see anything it was all desert and hills. Then we noticed some dust coming up from behind one of the hills and we decided to go and investigate. Luckily I was in my Wrangler because there was no paved road, its like you needed an H3 to get to the H3 event. I didn’t mind that since it felt like a true off road event even before I got to the place. When we reached the top we found the H3 camp, it was located at the bottom of the hill surrounded by a ton of Hummers and random visitor cars. We drove down to the camp and parked the Jeep… first impression was very positive so far.

We walked into the tent where we were greeted by some cute girls who took our names and made us sign a disclaimer stating if we got hurt they wouldn’t be responsible. I found that odd since its supposed to be just a test drive.. how bad could things go you know? Once we signed the papers they gave us a goodie bag and pointed us to another person who would put us into a Hummer.

This is where the fun starts. We get into the Hummer and drive off a hundred meters down the road where the Hummer driver tells me to swap seats so I could drive. I get into the drivers seat, adjust everything to my liking and then drive off towards a Hummer flag further down the road. When I first was told about the event, they told me that there were two tracks, a soft one and a hard one. I would be allowed to drive on the soft one while a professional driver would drive on the hard one. So automatically I assumed the soft track would be a stupid flat circle where I would safely drive around looking like an idiot. Well that turned out to be a completely wrong assumption. When I got to the Hummer flag I saw a deep fucking ditch in the ground filled with water. I figured that was the end of the test drive and I probably need to swap seats with the Pro driver so he could take me around the hard track. To my surprise the driver was like ok go in. I was like where, in that ditch? He was like yeah so I was like fucking cool. At first I thought this was a privilege I got because I knew the organizers but it turns out it wasn’t a privilege but in fact this was actually the start of the soft course! I got down the ditch and drove through the water till the end where I reached to a wall. I am not exaggerating here it was a nearly vertical sand wall that was soo high up I couldn’t see out of the ditch. The driver told me to step on the gas and not to press the brakes. I thought for sure the front end of the car would hit the wall before the tires but it didn’t. Up the wall I went and out of the ditch I drove. It was very cool and kinda unreal. I drove down to the next check point and this time the road ahead turned into holes. Each hole was maybe around 40cm deep and they were placed on both the left and right sides of the track. We drove through the track without any problems and very smoothly. Sure the car was moving up and down like a fishing boat in a perfect storm but we were driving through a track filled with 40cm deep pot holes! The whole time I was thinking shit my Wrangler can’t do this…

When we were done from the soft track which involved numerous impossible to climb looking obstacles, it was time to give the control back to the pro. He drove us to the hard track and put the H3 on 4x4low and told us to fasten our seat-belts. The first obstacle involved the H3 driving across two small dunes where half way through the driver stops and explains to us how the H3 at this point has only 2 wheels touching the ground. We then continue off to what I can only describe as a roller-coaster ride. We went up and down so many obstacles that were so high up and so steep it was just unbelievable. I tried to take pictures out of the window but all I could capture was either the sky or the ground. It was seriously jaw dropping. Once the drive was over I called up Nat and told her to get ready because I was going to come and pick her up. I drove all the way to Salmiya and back just so she could experience the drive. That ofcourse was a big mistake because now she can’t stopped nagging me about how she wants an H3 and when I could take her to the showroom.

I took a lot of pictures that day but something happened to the memorystick and all my pictures got erased. But, Alghanim sent me pictures yesterday that were taken by a photographer who came in from Dubai and they are way better pictures then the ones I had taken. Check them out, they are all from the Ride & Drive event here in Kuwait. The H3’s have Dubai numbers because they were brought in from Dubai. [Pictures]

I had a lot of fun.

Pictures from Spider Man 3

I don’t care much about the movie, and I really didn’t find any of these pictures interesting.. except for Spider Man’s costume. Now thats just fucking amazing, this is the shot I am talking about [Pic]. If I had that suit I would walk around Salmiya on a Thursday night picking fights with strangers. [Link]

What happened to the pictures??

I don’t what the fuck happened but yesterday I took Nat’s camera to the H3 Ride & Drive event and shot a whole bunch of pictures and everything was fine the last time I checked the pictures last night. Then today morning when I conneceted the camera to copy the pictures onto my computer I couldn’t find the pictures. Not only that I couldn’t find a single folder or file on the camera’s memorystick. I even used Data Rescue I and II to try and recover the files but it also couldn’t find anything. Something really got fucked here…
