The picture above is one of the new burgers Casper & Gambini’s have introduced while the one below is the burger I had previously tried as part of my Burger Challenge. Huge difference in presentation and taste. If I was to review the new burger I had it would probably get a 3 which is a big difference over the 1.5 score I had previously given them.

It seems there is a regional Gran Turismo 5 competition taking place now that I wasn’t aware of. The countries participating are Oman, UAE, Qatar, Lebanon, Kuwait and Bahrain and currently players from UAE rank 1st and 3rd with a player from Lebanon coming in at 2nd (Kuwait isn’t even in the top 10). The competition is a time challenge, anyone can participate for free and the grand prize is:

The chance to be chauffeur driven in a SLS, at the Mercedes circuit in Germany.
1. Fully paid trip to Stuttgart and back including accommodation
2. Visit to the Mercedes-Benz Museum followed by lunch
3. Visit to the DTM race including hot laps at the Hockenheim circuit
4. Visit the AMG factory in Affalterback including an SLS emotion experience

I personally would rather drive the SLS myself around the circuit but I guess that’s not an option here. Firstly thank you to everyone who filled out the survey. I was originally hoping to get around 200 to 300 responses but instead I got 1,000 before I shut it down since I hit my account limit. I saved all the results as a PDF (total of 50 pages of small print) and have copied them over to my iPad so I could go through them. I’ve already got a ton of ideas in my head for the blog and I have a feeling 2011 is going to be a very busy year for me. Anyway below are some results of the survey I thought you might be interested in seeing.

Basically I currently have no idea who reads this blog, what issues you might have with the blog and what you expect from my blog for the coming period. Update: The response has been really great and some of you have been leaving a lot of interesting comments and feedback. Some of you might have noticed a small pop up window appearing in the background when visiting my site asking you if you would like to be surveyed. Basically the survey was asking questions like who does the grocery shopping in the house which I don’t care to know the answer to and don’t see how it could be helpful to me. So instead I will be creating my own custom survey instead and once I have it setup will share it with everyone.

As most of you already know by now I’ve been enrolled with Core Fitness since January. When I first started I was going twice a week for 20 intense minutes each time. My diet was fairly close to what I used to have before joining Core but it was just a bit healthier. Then I moved up to 3 sessions a week and a stricter diet and after that I moved up to 4 sessions a week with even a more stricter diet. It’s been a gradual increase which I’ve realized now was a great thing since it helped me ease into this new lifestyle. I went from an unhealthy couch potato to being obsessed with fitness and health in under a year.

So anyway starting today I started taking their 1 hour sessions. They just introduced them for people who want to take things even further and I have to say it’s just crazy. I’ve already posted about how intense the 20 minute sessions are and anyone who’s actually tried a session will know what I am talking about, well their 1 hour session is literally their 20 minute sessions x3. Half way through I couldn’t believe I still had another 30 minutes to go! I had a Jujitsu class an hour later and when I got to that class I was already too exhausted to go through the warm up and stretching session. I’ve now actually gone ahead and scheduled my Jujitsu classes to days where I don’t have gym.

My weekly schedule now is:
Saturday – Monday – Wednesday = Core Fitness
Sunday – Tuesday = Sidekick Academy

I’ve got an activity scheduled everyday of the week except now for Thursday and Friday which are my days off. If you don’t do any activities then you should consider adding some since there are tons to choose from and the body really needs it. A reader emailed me a picture he took of his neighbors house where they’ve installed two wind turbines. I find that pretty strange honestly. It’s good of course that they’re thinking green but I would have guessed solar power would work great in Kuwait and not wind. I mean how many days of the year is it windy in Kuwait?

I was showing a friend of mine a couple of weeks back a post a friend of mine did on Blog Baladi about a popular taouk place in Lebanon called Massaad. My friend told me that the brother of the owner of Masaad actually has a small place here in Kuwait where they made similar taouk sandwiches and that the place was near my house. So I decided to go there and try it out.

I am a huge fan of a place in Lebanon called Malak al Taouk. They’re another popular Lebanese taouk place and they’re known for their HUGE sandwiches (check picture above). Tilal Lebanan doesn’t have sandwiches as big as theirs but they do have taouk sandwiches that are the closest thing to a Malak al Taouk sandwich in Kuwait.

Finding the place was pretty easy for me but I drew a map for anyone else who’s interested in finding the place. It’s located on traffic light street in Salmiya, I don’t know what the name of the street is but if you are on the 4th ring road and you take a right to exit Amman Street, head left on the first traffic light and then you should find the place tucked off the side of the road after I think the second or third traffic light. The place doesn’t look fancy at all, he has a few tables outside and inside but I just pass by pick up my sandwich and leave. He does a taouk platter and other variations of the taouk but I’ve just tried one of their sandwiches which is their regular taouk sandwich. It usually comes with garlic and pickles but I tell them to make it with fries and cabbage salad (similar to Malek al Taouk). I would recommend you have the sandwich my way since for one thing you don’t have the garlic issue.

I think their taouk sandwich is really great. I’ve had it a few times already and I love it. I do wish their cabbage salad was a bit better and they added more of it (an easy fix) but overall I think it’s the best taouk sandwich I’ve had in Kuwait. Price? Just KD1. One sandwich can be filling, I usually have around one and a half though. Their telephone number is 25615218

Update: I was just informed that Tilal Lebnan no longer belongs to the brother of the Lebanese Massaad restaurant. Seems he recently got into a fight with his partners and he has left Tilal Lebnan.

Kuwait has the highest ratio of domestic workers to citizens in the Middle East. The country’s more than 660,000 migrant domestic workers constitute nearly a third of the work force in this small Gulf country of only 1.3 million citizens. But domestic workers are excluded from the labor laws that protect other workers. They have minimal protection against employers who withhold salaries, force employees to work long hours with no days off, deprive them of adequate food, or abuse them physically or sexually.

A reader just sent me a link to a section of the Al-Diwan Al-Amiri website which contains really old photos of Kuwait, like the one above which was taken in 1911 or the one below that was taken in 1919 when Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed with Prince Faisal bin AbdulAziz visited London to mark the end of the First World War.
