Google Firefox Sync Tool

I love the Firefox Internet browser because of the amount of extensions available for it. The latest one I have been using is Google’s Firefox sync tool. It basically allows you to sync your Firefox browser across many computers. For example I use 3 computers for browsing, my Mac at home, Nat’s PowerBook and my Mac at work. With Google’s Firefox sync tool I can sync my bookmarks, my passwords, my browser history and even the tabs I have open across all my computers. There have been other extensions that have done this before but this is the first time one has done it so easily.

My problem with this tool like all the other sync tools is it’s slow. When you first load up Firefox it has to check online and see what updates I did in my previous browsing session on my other computers and then sync my local Mac with those changes. Also when I quit Firefox it has to save my changes online so that when I get home it would get synced over there. These waiting periods can be frustratingly slow specially if you just want to load up the browser for a quick search. Luckily you can cancel the sync if you need to and browse right ahead without getting anything synced.

Anyway its worth a shot, I have been using it for a few days now and it still hasn’t gotten on my nerve so that’s a good thing. [Link]

Macsaber

The past few days I was hearing a lot about this application on the Mac called Macsaber that worked with the latest Apple notebooks by replicating the Star Wars light saber sound everytime you swung your Mac around. Anyway I couldn’t try it myself and I couldn’t find any videos or pictures of it in action so I ignored it.. until now. I present you with Macbook Man! [Link]

PictureSync

I just found this cool software for the Mac that adds a cool feature to iPhoto where you could export pictures directly to your flickr or 23 account with one click. I think this new feature is enough to convince me to go back to using iPhoto. [Link]

Bye Bye Suitcase

FontExplorer

For the past couple of years I have been forced to use Extensis Suitcase to manage the fonts on my Mac. There was one serious competitor and Extensis ended up acquiring it. Awhile back I found out Linotype released a beta version of their own font manager software called FontExplorer X. I went ahead and tried it out and it was a bit buggy and had some features missing so I removed it and continued using Suitcase. A couple of days ago Linotype released the final version of their software so I downloaded it and ever since then I haven’t gone back to Suitcase.

FontExplorer is wayyy faster, has more features, and best of all its fucking free! Its FREE! Suitcase costs $100 and I see no reason why I should pay that much for a software that doesn’t perform better then the free FontExplorer. So what I am trying to say here is if you are a designer and frustrated with Suitcase, download FontExplorer, its lightyears ahead and so much more cooler.. [Link]

Path Finder 4

Path Finder 4 is out now for the Mac. Its a software that you can use to replace the default Finder. It provides you with a lot more options and features, its basically everything the default Finder should have been.

This is what one reviewer had to say:

Path Finder is a browser-style file manager developed by a single person that absolutely embarrasses the Mac OS X Finder with its huge feature set. Version 1.0 of Path Finder shipped in 2001 after only 6 months of development. Today’s version 3 is miles ahead of that, and the upcoming version 4 is like the Final Cut Pro of file management. It’s a file browsing tour de force.

Sadly its not free, you get a 21 day trial period but then you got to choke up the cash. Its worth a test drive though. [Link]

Adobe Lightroom

The photography software Adobe Lightroom beta is out and I downloaded and played around with it for a bit now and it seems cool. The installation file is like only 4MB and the system requirements needed to run are very acceptable. Unlike Aperture, Adobe Lightroom not only runs on my G5 at work but will also run on my older G4 at home. Seems like Adobe really wants to kick Apple’s ass. [Link]

Note: The beta is currently available only for Macs.

Aperture Sucks

I just downloaded the Aperture compatibility checker and ran it on my Dual 2Ghz G5 PowerMac at work to see if Aperture would run on my Mac and guess what, my Mac isn’t compatible because of the VGA card! Who the hell can run this piece of shit software if this Mac can’t run it! I was hoping to try out the software on my Mac at home but I guess I can kiss that idea goodbye.
