Kuwaiti Magicians

Did anyone check out the back page of Al-Watan newspaper today? There is an advert for these two Kuwaiti magicians who recently made a helicopter disappear in Las Vegas. The magic duo go by the name Majstick and I checked out their website and they don’t have the video of their helicopter disappearing trick but they do have videos of other tricks like a bouncing tissue and a floating ball. I took the courtesy of uploading their videos to YouTube to make it more available to everyone, you can check out their magic tricks by following the links below.

Caramel

Caramel is a romantic comedy based on the daily lives of four Lebanese women. The movie premiered during the 2007 Cannes Film Festival and since then has been sold to over 30 countries. It premiers on August 14th in France and I might be there on business so I am going to try my best to watch it. For now the trailer is on YouTube and it’s a really long trailer like 5 minutes long. There is also a website for the movie and a lot more info on Wikipedia. It looks like its going to be a good one.

Copy Paste

I was surfing the web last week at work when I fell upon a visual that looked familiar. I was sure that I had seen it before and only when I got home I realized where. The cover on the left is from Bazaar’s 2006 dining guide. The artwork on the right was originally designed and illustrated by a designer called Bo Lundberg.
I emailed Bo Lundberg to find out if he had given Bazaar permission to use his design for their cover and according to him he didn’t, the visual was copied from him and Bazaar never contacted him.
Check out Bo Lundberg’s work by visiting his website. [Link]
Fan death

Fan death is an urban legend that originated in South Korea, but has since spread to other countries in the Far East. The belief is that an electric fan, if left running overnight in a closed room, can result in the death (by suffocation, poisoning, or hypothermia) of those inside. This belief also extends to air conditioners and the fans in cars. When the air conditioner or fan is on in a car, some people are apt to leave their car windows open a crack to avoid “fan death.” Fans manufactured and sold in Korea are equipped with a timer switch that turns them off after a set number of minutes, which users are frequently urged to set when going to sleep with a fan on. Takeru Kobayashi Loses

Today was the famous International Hot Dog Eating Competition in the US. Me and some friends have been talking about this competition for a few days now and I had a feeling Kobayashi was going to lose because he had an injury (jaw problem). I turned out to be right because he lost to Joey Chestnut who is now the world champion. Kobayashi who was the champion for the past 6 years straight managed to eat 63 hot dogs in 12 minutes compared to Joey who ate 66. [Link]
Kobayashi is still the hamburger eating champion (97 hamburgers in 8 minutes). [Link]

They will also be selling items which had previously only been seen on the TV show like Squishees and Krusty cereals.
