The Ministry of Interior has revised the speed limit on various roads and they’ve already started replacing some of the streets signs to reflect the new limits. Here are the current speed limits, keep in mind not all of them have been changed:

Speed limit on expressways and outer roads that link expressways and main roads with the country’s borders are as follows:
– Maximum speed for cars: 120 km/h
– Minimum speed for cars: 80 km/h

Speed limit on expressways between 6th Ring Road and 2nd Ring Road:
– Maximum speed for cars: 100 km/h
– Minimum speed for cars: 50 km/h

Speed limit on expressways between 2nd Ring Road and 1st Ring Road:
– Maximum speed for cars: 80 km/h
– Minimum speed for cars: 40 km/h

Speed limit on 5th Ring Road starting from King Abdulaziz Al-Saud road in the east to Andalus crossroad with Ardiya in the west:
– Maximum speed for cars: 100 km/h
– Minimum speed for cars: 50 km/h

Speed limit on 1st Ring Road:
– Maximum speed for cars: 100 km/h
– Minimum speed for cars: 50 km/h

Speed limit for 2nd, 3rd and 4th Ring Roads:
– Maximum speed for cars: 80 km/h
– Minimum speed for cars: 45 km/h

Speed limit on main roads in inside areas:
– Maximum speed for cars: 60 km/h

Speed limit inside residential areas:
– Maximum speed for cars: 45 km/h

Shakshooka market is taking place today (Thursday) in Baider, exit 267 from 3PM to 5PM. If you’re at the chalet area or farms then pass by but don’t forget to bring cash and a carrying bag if you will be buying stuff.

In less than 3 weeks time, the Kuwait national American football team will be playing a friendly game against Switzerland. Not many people are aware of the fact that Kuwait has an American football team but we do, two teams in fact, the under 19s and over 19s (seniors).

I passed by one of their practice sessions last week and was pretty impressed with what I saw. The teams hold their practices at the Kuwait University Stadium in Shuwaikh and when I got there I got to watch different groups take part in various exercises. The teams practice Sunday to Wednesday from 7PM to 10PM and Saturdays from 1PM to 3PM so they’re very dedicated and really want to make this work.

Although the game this month against Switzerland is a friendly, it’s still an important game because the next one after that is in April against South Korea which will be for the World Cup Qualifications. So if you’re an American Football fan or if you’re looking for something to do, this January 18th pass by and cheer for the Kuwaiti team. According to the Arab Times, any expat arrested tonight for drinking alcohol or being drunk will be immediately deported. So be cautious and have your wasta on speed dial.

Happy New Year.

A woman in Kuwait has filed for divorce one week into her marriage after she discovered that husband did not like to eat peas with a fork and preferred to use bread. Accusing him of failing to abide by table manners and proper eating etiquette, she said that she was disgusted by the “shocking sight” and could not stay with her husband the rest of life and wanted a divorce, local daily Al Qabas reported on Monday.

In another case, a woman told her lawyer that she wanted to divorce her husband for insisting on squeezing the toothpaste tube in the middle and not the end. “We are always arguing,” she reportedly said. “I keep telling him that he should squeeze in the end of the tube, but he stubbornly refuses and keeps squeezing it in the middle. He is so obstinate.”

Over the weekend the SIRBB race track in Shuwaikh claimed its first victim, a Ferrari California. Looks like traction control was turned off and the driver lost control of the vehicle. I love how the driver stayed calm after the crash, if it was me I would have dropped a few dozen F-bombs. [YouTube]

The Ministry of Interior just launched an “Ideal Driver” campaign where up to 10 people will have a chance to win KD300. What is an ideal driver? According to the campaign page, an ideal driver is someone who hasn’t gotten any traffic violations over the last three years. I for one have received a number of violations so I can’t participate in this campaign but if you haven’t received any traffic violations head over to the campaign page and sign up for the draw. For those of you who attended the showing of the short film “Playtime” this past Thursday (a great film btw) will probably recall the director during the Q&A session mentioning Brett Jordan’s photos as being one of his sources of inspiration.

Brett Jordan’s parents lived in Kuwait back in the 60s and he managed to scan a ton of his parents photos and then uploaded them onto Flickr. I’ve already posted about Brett’s photos a number of times over the years but I know many of you haven’t seen them before. Also, Brett keeps adding photos as he finds them so there might be a bunch that weren’t there the last time you saw them.

According to the video above, two Rally Righters are headed to Kuwait. The Rally Fighter (pictured below) is a kit car that was chosen as the winning design to build out of 21,000 submissions by internet users around the world. They’re only building 3,000 of these kit cars so it’s pretty cool that two are headed to Kuwait.

If one (or two) of these cars are for you, please let me know once they arrive to Kuwait.

The other day I posted about the homemade Cannolis from Pasticceria Di Pietro and I finally got to try them tonight. They’re crazy good, like really really good. I tried all the flavors and my favorites were the Cannoli Sicilian and the Caramel Divino and my least favorite was the Pumpkin Pie. The presentation from the box to the Cannolis themselves were picture perfect. No way on earth would I have been able to guess this was a home businesses if I hadn’t already known. Even the food shots on the website are beautiful taken and wouldn’t look out of place on the food network.

Spotted these 4 streaks in the sky on the way to Kuwait City this morning. No idea what they are…

‘Playtime’ is a short film by Kuwaiti writer and filmmaker Hamad Al-Tourah. The film is about Matthew, 10, who lives with his mother in Kuwait. One night, when his mother leaves him alone, Matthew finds company in Dalal, a Kuwaiti girl who lives down the street and eventually makes a plan to escape with her. If you’re interested the film is going to be screened tonight at Cinemagics at 6:45PM. Here are the details:

The Shakshooka market is not taking place tonight but instead will be taking place this coming Saturday from 1PM to 4PM at Bayt Lothan. Alongside their regular farmers market they’re going to be holding their first ever cookout as well.

Don’t forget to bring cash and a carrying bag if you will be buying stuff. Also bring picnic blankets this time as well.

Beautiful commercial for the upcoming International Forum for Islamic Art which is going to be held from December 29th to January 9th 2014.

This is going to be the 6th time the forum is being held in Kuwait. The forum will feature various exhibitions and workshops but sadly all the information I could find was in Arabic so I don’t have the exact specifics of whats taking place.
