Review: Chicken Masala

chicken masala

I haven’t reviewed a microwavable dish in a while but here is a good one. There is a local company called Livestock Transport & Trading Co. that have a line of frozen ready made meals that sell under the brand Jahez. Jahez have 24 different frozen meals in total but todays review is about the Chicken Masala meal.

Cooking the meal was very easy. You take out the tray from the box, punch a few holes in the plastic cover and then stick it in the microwave for 6 minutes. I have my own way of cooking the meals though. I place the tray in the microwave and let it cook for 3 minutes, then I open the microwave, take out the tray and peal open the plastic cover. Then using a fork I move all the food around and when I am done I close the cover again and shove it back into the microwave for another 4 minutes. I do this so that the food thoroughly cooks. I have had issues before with microwavable food where when eating, the food ends up being really hot in the center of the dish but cold nearer the outer edge.

Once the meal was done I took it out of the microwave and opened the plastic cover again. The smell was really appetizing and visually the dish looked very eatable. I took the tray and sat down in front of the TV and started eating. The Chicken Masala tasted pretty good, somewhere between a home cooked meal and the Mughal Mahal fast food restaurant. I finished the chicken and then took the sauce and poured it over the rice and continued eating. It was a pretty satisfying dinner and overall I think this might be one of the best frozen meals I have ever had. The best part of the meal is the price. Since its made in Kuwait its pretty cheap coming in at around 700fils depending where you buy it from. The Co-ops usually have a larger collection of Jahez meals and cheaper prices then Sultan so you can find it for as low as 670fils in some places. Great price plus good food gives this meal a 4 out of 5 rating in my book. For more information on Jahez click here. Also make sure you read some of our other reviews located here.

Apple acknowledges iPod nano screen problems

“This is a real but minor issue involving a vendor quality problem in a small number of units,” Apple said in a statement, referring to the reports of seemingly unprovoked nano screen breakage. “Our figures show this issue has affected less than 1/10 of 1 percent of the total iPod nano units that we’ve shipped. It is not a design issue.” The company said affected customers should contact Apple to arrange for a free replacement unit. [Link]

Major iPod Nano Problems

Seems a lot of people have been having problems with their Nano. The surface of the device scratches very easily and its upsetting lots of people. I checked out some of the pictures and it got me really worried. Luckily my Nano hadn’t shipped yet from Amazon so I just canceled my order. Will wait and see how serious of an issue this is and if Apple will fix it. [Link]

Delicious Library

delicious library

I have a lot of CDs, Videogames and Books and it has always been a dream of mine that I could organize them in some sort of catalog so I could keep track of what I have. I believe I finally found what I have been looking for all my life, Delicious Library.

Delicious Library is a software for the Mac that allows you to organize your stuff very easily. There are various ways you could add stuff to the library, at the moment I am entering the bar code numbers manually and the software automatically searches various sources online and then returns with a whole bunch of info on the product I just entered. Current prices, reviews, ratings, album cover, and a ton more info just by entering the bar code. If you have iSight or any other firewire camera you don’t even have to manually type the bar code numbers, just take the bar code and place it in front of the camera and it will automatically scan it just like the supermarket people use the bar code scanners. If you are lucky enough to have a bar code scanner (cuecat owners click here) you could also use it to input information into Delicious Library. You could even add stuff by typing in the CD or book titles, for example I typed in Blind Melon Soup and it returned 2 results, I clicked on the right one and thats it, its automatically added into my library.

After you add all your items to the catalog you can then search for songs, artists, authors, publishers etc.. you can even have it print out the whole catalog for you with all your items listed. You can add notes under each item also for example the name of the person you lent the item to and even find items similar to one you have highlighted.

Delicious Library isn’t free though, it costs $40 but its worth it. So make sure you check it out. [Link]

Note: If you are interested in a cuecat modified to read barcodes, you can find them on Amazon for only $9.99. [Link]

Note 2:
If you are a PC user there is a software called Readerware that supposedly does the same thing except not as pretty looking. [Link]

American Hot Rod

boyd

I have been addicted to American Hot Rod for like 2 months now. Its been more entertaining then American Chopper and Rides since there are a lot of problems on the show and most of them I could relate to. The pace of work, the impossible deadlines, the how fast can you do it not how good can you do it mentality, all typical issues common here in Kuwait. Yesterday night though Charley the painter, the most chilled out guy on the show had enough and decided to leave Boyd Coddington and join Boyds competitor, an ex friend and ex employee, Chip Foose. Foose is a regular on Rides and has his own show Overhaulin also on Discovery. It seems American Hot Rod is falling apart. None of the employees are happy and the best people have left the body shop so I don’t think I will be watching it anymore. For fans of the show if you want to talk to Charley he posts regularly on the Overhaulin forum, his nick name is idahoboy. [Link]

Formula 1

f1 logoI hate the fact that Formula 1 isn’t a popular motor sport in Kuwait. Actually I don’t think any kind of motor sport is popular in Kuwait. When I was in Lebanon if there was a Formula 1 race on TV you wouldn’t find a single person on the streets. Since I have moved back to Kuwait I have lost touch with the Formula 1 world. The races take place on Sundays which is a day off in the majority of the world but not in Kuwait. This means when the races are on I am at work with no access to television. Anyway I think I found a good site for F1 news. I used to check out F1.com and other F1 sites but they are all too heavy on the graphics and not very easy to navigate. Thew new site I am currently checking out all the time is the BBC F1 section.. except I use the text version of the page. Check it out, its very practical to use. [Link]

Motel Signs

motel signs

A nice collection of Motel Signs from various parts of the US. I always wanted to stay at a Motel for some reason but I never got the chance, I guess since you see it so much in the movies and we really don’t have any similar places in Kuwait it becomes like something you can’t have which makes you want it more. From Human to Droid in a Yahoo Moment

This is a sad post on how Yahoo! taking over flickr is destroying what made flickr great in the first place. The post mentions 23HQ (23 People) as an alternative which I posted about back in June and which although doesn’t provide as much features as Flickr at the moment they are adding new stuff all the time. Anyway check out the post and then check out 23HQ if you haven’t already. [Link]

Hot Hot Hot

ultra fan

Two days ago I posted about my PowerMac finally being upgraded, well I have run into a minor problem that requires more upgrading. Basically you can currently bake a cake inside my Mac because of the heat. I had one hard drive reporting a tempreture of 65 degrees celcius which is around 20 degrees hotter then usual. I don’t even know how hot my CPU is running but I am also guessing pretty fucking hot since you would burn your finger if you touched the CPU’s heatsink.

I am now trying to find ways to cool the interior of my case. Since its a Mac its not easy since the interior of the case isn’t standard by any means. I have found PCI slot fans but I can’t find one that will blow air in, most blow air out of the case which at the moment is not a priority. It is always better to over pressure the interior of the case then to underpressure. I also need to find a way to cool the hard drives, a way that doesn’t require screws since there is no place to screw anything in. Until this heat issue is solved my Mac won’t be on 24 hours a day, I will have to turn it on when I need to use it and off when I am done.

No Fear

I went to the dentist last night and although I used to really hate dentists before, yesterday I started to like them a lot better. I was always worried that if the dentist was going to do something major to my teeth that I would be in a lot of pain during the procedure and then after while recovering. Yesterday I realized that this wasn’t true. After the dentist injected me with anestesia, he performed a minor wedge surgery which I didn’t feel at all. Last time I took anestesia for a dental procedure I was young and had to have some teeth pulled so I could get braces. It wasn’t a nice incident and I believe thats why I dislike dentists so much. Yesterday though the dentist operated on me and I wasn’t the least bit comfortable. It was incredible, and even after the procedure was done and I went home, the pain I was expecting to appear never did, not even today morning long after the anestesia has worn off. Now I have a second oppointment with the dentist tomorrow and I am not nervous about it at all.

One word of advise, if you have a problem with your teeth, don’t wait a long time to have it fixed, it won’t heal by itself and it will just get worse.

Oolite

Oolite is a space sim game, written for Mac OS X in Objective C using Cocoa and OpenGL. It is designed as a small game that is easy for users to pick up and expand upon. Almost every aspect of the game can be modified using simple, free graphics packages and text-editors. Oolite now works in Tiger. [Link]

Update: Although the idea behind this game sounded promising, after playing it or should I say trying to play it, this game is basically crap.

The Perfect Remote?

harmony 880

I think I finally found a remote to replace my Sony universal remote. The new Harmony 880 still has the form of the older Harmony remotes except it now also includes a beautiful colored screen. This is the dream remote, size and form similar to the simple Tivo controller but yet with features and functions that match the bulky Philips Pronto remotes. [Link]
