Winnie the Pooh Movie

[YouTube]

I saw the trailer to Winnie the Pooh while I was in Lebanon last week and I really liked the illustration style. They’ve basically kept the original look from 1966 and just given it the HD treatment which I thought was perfect. I hate the way some cartoons get revamped and a recent example would be the new Voltron which I think looks like crap. Winnie the Pooh is getting released by Cinescape on Thursday and I don’t think anything will be cut from it.

The Ultimate Ahmadi Post

Ahmadi Town from Archofkuwait on Vimeo.

If you’re a long time reader you will know I have a soft spot for old pictures of Kuwait. Right now I’m extremely ecstatic because Architecture of Kuwait have just posted what has to be the best Ahmadi post ever. They’ve posted a ton of incredible pictures of Ahmadi, nearly all of which I had never seen before and all of them are very good quality shots. They even posted the 20 minute documentary above! Check out the picture of Ahmadi at the bottom of this post, it just looks beautiful.

Sblended Milkshakes

Tidbit Du Jour just posted about a new milkshake store that just opened in Al Kout Mall called Sblended. I hadn’t heard of this British chain before but looking at their website it seems they will blend any of your favorite chocolates into a milkshake. Sounds delicious. [Link]

Rumor: Kim Kardashian coming to Kuwait

Not sure how accurate this information is but I heard that Kim Kardashian will be coming to Kuwait this October to launch her new perfume. My source wouldn’t tell me which cosmetic place would be launching it but my guess is that it’s going to be Sephora. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Lita’s has a website

Lita’s, the small Mexican restaurant I posted about last week now has a website with their full menu (but with no prices) posted online. I haven’t passed by the place yet since I just got back from Lebanon, but based on the feedback tons of people have been leaving behind in the previous post I can’t wait to pass by and try it. Here is the [Link]

BoConcept Sale

BoConcept currently have a sale going on. They actually started before I left on vacation but now they have even further discounts on some of the items. I tweeted one great deal, a couch which was originally priced at KD1,375 and is now going for KD343. Their lamps are also 75% off and I ended up getting a cool looking one. Not everything is 75% off since most items have just 50% off and other items without any discounts at all. But still you might end up finding a great deal on an item you really want.

Shaikh Mubarak Kiosk

Architecture of Kuwait have a new article up and it’s about the Shaikh Mubarak Kiosk pictured above. The kiosk which had a lot of important and historical value was turned into a samosa shop back in the 60s with the top floor also rented out to a photographer. Now it’s been renovated and turned into a historical building that looks very similar to the original. You can read more on why this kiosk was important as well as see more pictures on the Architecture of Kuwait website [Here]

Al-Antabli

So I’m in Lebanon right now and I’ve kinda left my diet back in Kuwait. Yesterday for example I passed by a place in Tabarja (an area near Casino Du Liban) and had some amazing dessert at a place called Al-Antabli. If you’re a calorie counter this is NOT the place for you. Seriously. You have to come in with the understanding that everything you will eat is fattening like crazy. Personally I started off with Halawet El Jeben and followed it with a Ousmalieh. I downed everything with a large jug of jaleb and ended with a delicious scoop of Ashta ice-cream. Amazing stuff. Everything is pictured below in the order listed above.

And the plot thickens

Two weeks back Salwa al Mutairi proposed that Kuwaiti men should be allowed to have sex slaves and now she’s calling for a law that would also allow Kuwaiti women to buy good looking men from Muslim countries. According to the article on Arab Times “the men should have ‘slave qualities’ and should be ready for marriage”. The article continues with her saying “she is ready to get married to a young good looking European, even if he is poor.”

Personally I think she’s currently hooked on the tv series Spartacus and now wants her own slave as well. By “slave qualities” I’m also guessing she means they need to have the standard six-pack and ripped upper body that the slaves on Spartacus come with. That’s my theory at least. You can read the full article [Here]

Paris Hilton’s new BFF is Kuwaiti

Remember back in May I posted about how Paris HIlton’s show My New BFF was being filmed in Dubai? Well the show ended a couple of days back and the contestant that won the competition is Kuwait’s very own Reem Al Alnezi (pictured above). She’s now Paris Hilton’s new best friend which I have no idea what that means. I guess they’ll go shopping together and partying together every time Paris comes to the Middle East? Not really sure… [Link]

Super 8

I watched the movie Super 8 tonight here in Lebanon and all I can say is that it kicked ass. If you’re a fan of 70s/80s sci-fi/adventure movies then you’re going to love this. I thought it was a combination of three great classics, ET, The Goonies and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I loved it.

There was no nudity, kissing or anything of the sort so it should be censor free in Kuwait.

Lita’s Mexican Food

There is a new Mexican restaurant that’s opening up tomorrow (Friday) in Mahboula called Lita’s. It’s a small place that’s owned by Khaled Mulla who is half Kuwaiti and half Mexican. From what I understood he wants the local community to experience real authentic Mexican food which currently is lacking in Kuwait. They’ll be making their own flour tortillas on the spot and the Chef is a family member that is coming in from Mexico to run the place himself who’s been in the business for over 30 years. This along with the announcement of a Mexican Embassy opening up soon should be great news for the small (200+) Mexican community in Kuwait.

I’m currently in Lebanon for a few days so I won’t be able to pass by and try it but if you’re interested the place is in Mahboula, Block 1 off of street 210. Here is the [Map]
