Tagine is the new Moroccan restaurant that opened up at The Palms. I haven’t gone to it yet but after reading Desert Girl’s review I am not as excited to try it out. [Link]

I was flipping through a book on the history of Kuwait called “The voice of the Oud” when I found a photo of a kid who looked exactly like me. The book is full of amazing old photos of Kuwait and here I was in one of the pictures. I checked the date of the photo and it was 1983 and taken in Mubarakieh outside the carpet souk where I used to tag a long with my dad every Friday morning.
I scanned the photo and emailed it to my mum just to be sure that the picture was of me when i was a kid and she called me to confirm that it was. I think its pretty cool especially since the book has a ton of cool shots of old Kuwait. The girl in the picture was my neighbor who is no longer in Kuwait and I am also no longer chubby although I am still very white.

I was never too sure about the exact numbers but I just found this on the KNPC website:
Ultra (Green): 98 Octane, 90 fils/Ltr
Super (Gold): 95 Octane, 65 fils/Ltr
Premium (Red): 91 Octane, 60 fils/Ltr

update: The reason I wanted to know how much octane is in what type of gas is because the manual for my bike recommends 98 octane while the manual for the Wrangler recommends 87 octane.
The Emir Sheikh Jabir passed away two years ago on this day and a reader emailed me suggesting I share this song with everyone. The song is called “The prince of our hearts” and here is some information on it by its creators:
This song is dedicated to the late Prince Jabber. Also to Prince Saad, Prince Sabah, and Prince Nawaf. A mix of Arabic,R&B and Rap.
Although, Prince Jaber passed away on January 15 2006 “May He Rest in Peace”, he still remains firm in the hearts of Kuwaitis, arabs, and foreigners. This song was written, produced, and was sang by Luqman Sherriff A.K.A MiracaLz, Hany Baker A.K.A The_Kuwaiti_Don, and Salman A.K.A Morice. Combining R&B, Smooth Rap, and a new style of Arabic R&B.
I didn’t like the song but I don’t listen to this style of music anyway, you can download the mp3 and watch the video [Here]
The video embedded in the post above is a different song by Ahmad Al-Hajri which I just found on YouTube.
Thanks Zaid

DJ Uruj from the night ride on FM99.7 just read everyones negative comments about her in an old post and has replied back with the following:
Gee you guys, didnt know I was that bad….. “a voice that cracks and rasps, and pitches up and down all the time, like she has a continual sore throat?Definitely not a voice for radio. She also has a strange sense of humour…..”
My goodness me…..I have tears in my eyes now…..lol….but seriously, i can see that this was two months ago…..what do you guys think of my show now…..please let me know how I can improve it without being insulting…..am looking forward to your comments…..and the name is Uruj Saeed…..not a pseudonym, its my real name…..!!
She also posted the following:
Hey everyone, listen up, there’s going to be a show tomorrow on hate mail in which i will mention this blog, so do tune in…..and dont take offense, its just for kicks…..:)
So if anyone here has feedback on how DJ Uruj can improve leave a comment below. I personally think she can’t be fixed but since no one listens to 99.7 anyway I don’t think it matters. If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

Thanks Stafa

As I mentioned before I am currently upgrading the sound system in my Wrangler. I already received and installed the head unit which I have to say is incredible. I installed the Alpine iDA-X001 which is made for the iPod and its extremely practical and easy to use. I am really glad I went for it, absolutely no regrets and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a new head unit.

For the speakers and amp I was planning on going with JL Audio but I wasn’t able to find a combination that fit my budget. Also the JL Audio amps are pretty big and I wanted something I could fit under the drivers seat. In the end I decided to go with Boston Acoustics SX55 for the front and rear with an Alpine MRP-F250 amp under my drivers seat. I already ordered these items and I should be getting them next week.

For the subwoofer I decided to go with an Infinity BassLink II. I use the trunk of the Wrangler for my dog every time I take him out so I don’t have room for a large sub enclosure neither do I have room to install an amp. I decided to go with the BassLink II since as you can see in the picture above, it won’t take up much room in the trunk and it has a built in 250watt RMS amp which makes it all very compact. I could get my dog in and out of the Wrangler without even having to remove the sub which is really practical.
All thats left now is the installation which I have decided to do myself. I already have a step by step guide with pictures on what I need to do and so far the only hard part seems to be the removal of the drivers seat so I could install the amp under it. The reason I want to do the installation myself is because I want to learn how to do it plus the fact that it should be fun. I will be sure to post pictures of the installation once I am done.
Nibaq just emailed me this which really cracked me up:
Hear about the tiger that escaped the San Fransisco zoo and killed 1 guy and injured 2?
In Kuwait a lion escapes in a neighborhood and no one gets injured.
Kuwait 1 – San Fransisco 0

I am assuming the cops use a similar software to this with victims of attacks. The picture on the left is me trying to draw myself and the picture on the right is of Holla (my friend) trying to draw himself. Its pretty easy to use and the results are pretty neat. I am going to get back to working on my face trying to make it resemble me. [Link]
Tips: You can move the location of face features by clicking on them in the picture on the right and moving it about. You can increase and decrease the width and height of the features by using the axis thingy on the left. You can also save your face for other people to see. If you click on load and then search for a face called 248am you should find the one I am working on.

Not the comedy group but the actual Axis of Evil. For $120 you can have your very own Tony Blair, George W. Bush, Kim Jung Kil, Osama Bin Laden and ghost of Saddam figurines! [Link]

If you are like me and have a collection of old vinyl but can’t carry then when you travel, well we have found salvation! This bad boy can rip your old records to your computer for easy transferring, editing and scratching. Also the best part is once your are done you can still use it as a stand alone 3-speed player. Here is an updated list of current DSL pricing:

As I have said in the past; I wouldn’t suggest signing up with United Networks or FastTelco due to their incapability to deliver promised speed, provide sufficient support or maintain a stable network.
The most enticing ‘offer’ (we still pay too much) is the 4mb connection from Qualitynet at 900KD. As you would be looking at a download speed of roughly 400+ KBPS. Although, I am not sure if most telephone lines are capable of handling that speed. Come to think of it, ISPs could offer a 1000MB connection knowing that your telephone line will tap out at 3MB.
With Info-Connect 2008 only two months away, I would suggest extending your subscription until you can make use of the offers there.

Burgan Bank today launched a new logo and personally I think it can’t get any more generic than this. I think they should have just given their old logo a face lift by simplifying the sun rays and maybe going with two tones of blue instead of the Gradient. For their typeface I would have killed the serif and gone with san serif which they actually did in the new logo. Actually the only positive thing in the new logo is their logo type but their icon on the other hand is very boring and forgettable. Not only that but where is Kuwait in the logo? Gulf Bank have the dhow, NBK have the camel, CBK have the arabesque star and now Burgan Bank have a… ribbon? Where is the locality? Where is the strength and trust? They’ve recently redone their branches into a very clean modern looking environment so why did they go with a logo that was already outdated in style before it even launched. This logo should never have left the design studio yet let alone presented to the client and gotten accepted.
What other bloggers have to say
Tatabotata: “This is the most disgusting redesign I have seen in a while.”
Patrick: “Why? But why?!”
Elsewhere
AMEINFO: “The design of the new corporate identity draws inspiration from a ring, which has been used cross-culturally for thousands of years as a symbol of partnership and commitment.”
Further Information
The logo was done by an agency in Bahrain and not LOM | FDP who were responsible for their branch redesigns
Update: The agency in Bahrain behind the redesign is Vision Communications.
