Live Nation is Coming to Kuwait

Live Nation

According to the Tamdeen Group annual report, they’ve signed with Live Nation to manage the events and activities that will take place at the International Tennis Complex that’s currently under construction next to 360 Mall. Live Nation is the largest live entertainment company. They are concert promoters, venue operators and also handle ticketing and artist management.

This is pretty big news since more and more concerts are taking place in Kuwait and with Live Nation coming in, it could also mean a lot more concerts will start taking place here. Not only that but since the largest arena at the tennis complex can hold 4,000 people, twice more than the largest theater at JACC, this could mean they’d be able to price the tickets cheaper.

Construction on the Sheikh Jaber Al-Abdullah AlJaber Al-Sabah International Tennis Complex is expected to be completed by next year. For previous posts on the tennis complex, click [Here]

This is Not an Official Apple Store

A bunch of people and friends have been forwarding me the screenshot above taken from the account @kuwait_projects. Kuwait Projects post is a bit misleading since he makes it seem like an official Apple store is opening in Avenues Phase 4. That isn’t the case. The store in the picture above is just a regular authorized Apple store, not an official one.

Rapper Russ Backs Out from Kuwait Concert

I honestly have no clue who Russ is, but a friend told me he’s pretty popular so figured this was newsworthy. Based on some tweets he posted a while ago, Russ was supposed to come and perform in Kuwait but then found out the promoter was planning on selling the tickets for a ridiculous price, so he backed out.

The prices for the tickets were going to be as follows:

VIP – KD250
Gold – KD200
Silver – KD150
Bronze – KD100
Normal – KD50

The prices seem similar to Sting but looking at the seating chart of this event, it didn’t look like it was going to be held at a proper theater. In fact, I think it was going to be held in a large tent or hall with no elevated seating which means anything behind silver would have been terrible seating. According to Russ, he’s still willing to come to Kuwait, but only if the promoter decides to reduce the ticket prices. We’ll see how this plays out.

Burger & Lobster in the City

I found out earlier today that Burger & Lobster are opening up in Kuwait City, in place of where Cereal Killer used to be located.

I like this location and I think it should end up doing a lot better than the Avenues one which always felt too out of the way to pass by for a quick meal. The new location is right next to Arabica in downtown, here it is on [Google Maps]

Shaab Park is No More

According to a contact of mine at the Touristic Enterprises Company, Shaab Park will not be reopening again. Back in August, the park along with Sultan Center and other businesses in that block were closed down and the whole area cordoned off due to contract issues. I was under the impression that the park was owned by TEC, but turned out only the land is actually owned by them.

I still have memories and photos of when I used to go to Shaab Park back in the 80s. It was a lot greener back then and it wasn’t fenced up as it is now (I should dig up the old photos). Even though I wasn’t a fan of the current iteration of the park, it was a place for young guys and girls to go hang out and meet up in so I’m sure it will be missed by many.

Cartier in the Park

Yesterday while I was in Al Shaheed Park I spotted a large Cartier structure near the Circle of Peace. I tried to get more information on it but security there wouldn’t even let me take a photo of the building (wtf?) let alone answer my questions. Does anyone know if this is a permanent structure or not? My guess is that its a temporary one for some sort of event but seems overkill financially for just a 2 day event or something.

Update: Its a two day event called ‘Cactus De Cartier’, more info [Here]

Rumor: Eggslut Coming to the Middle East

This is completely unconfirmed but yesterday I heard that a Kuwaiti company got the rights for Eggslut in the Middle East. Eggslut is an LA-based gourmet food concept where all the items on their menu feature eggs. I had mentioned Eggslut under my “L.A. Eats” post a few months ago as a place to try out if you’re ever in L.A. If anyone has any information on this rumor please let me know!

Update: It’s confirmed!

PayPal Money Withdrawal Soon

If you’re a PayPal user you probably already know that as residents of Kuwait, we don’t have the ability to cash out our PayPal credit. Meaning if someone sends you $100 with PayPal, there is no way of withdrawing that money or depositing it into your bank account.

But according to a reader this might change come October. According to the reader, he recently got a call from PayPal for a survey and at the end of the call, he asked them about money withdrawals in Kuwait. The PayPal representative told him that money withdrawals would be activated in October with NBK.

Hopefully this is true since I know a lot of small businesses who want to open up online websites and accept credit card payments but can’t afford the high rates of our local banks. PayPal would be a much more affordable option for them and work easier with ecommerce sites like SquareSpace and Shopify.

Thanks Jassim

Entertainment City Reopening by 2021

According to the instagram account @tafteesh_kw, the government has stated that Entertainment City will be reopening by 2021. There aren’t any other details but I’m assuming the park is set to get renovated during this time.

Originally I heard the plan to renovate the park was put on the back burner after the price of oil plunged below $50 a barrel since the government decided to be more frugal with spending. The aging rides desperately needed an update and by the time the park had closed down, majority of the big rides like the Australian Log Ride and the rollercoasters weren’t working.

There were rumors about Six Flags being involved in the original renovation project, no idea if that is still the case or not but I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Rumor: Equinox Gyms to Open in Kuwait

Equinox is a popular luxury gym chain in the US and according to a reader, they’re going to open in Kuwait (and most likely the region). Alshaya are bringing the brand which will most likely compete with the likes of Inspire, The Burrow and Elite Fitness.

No information on when or where they’re planning to open as of now.

Thanks Andrew

Rumor: Adele is Coming to Kuwait

Over the weekend I was told that preliminary approval from the Ministry to bring Adele to Kuwait was given. If everything works out she’ll be performing at the Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre which has recently hosted other big name musicians like Yanni and Googoosh. Although, bringing Adele would be on a completely different level.

I wasn’t given any dates on when this might happen, but based on her schedule, it would be safe to assume that if it will happen, it would be sometime in the second half of this year.

Talks to Bring Pret a Manger to Kuwait

According to a source, Al Yasra are in talks to try and bring Pret a Manger to Kuwait. Pret is already available in the UAE and so it would make sense to expand around the region. I always used to wonder where one would open a Pret in Kuwait since it works well in an area with some foot traffic that isn’t a mall. Now With all the coffee shops in the city creating a bit of foot traffic, that might actually be a great location for a Pret especially since its surrounded by office buildings as well.

Lindsay Lohan is in Kuwait

lindsaylohankuwait

Lindsay Lohan is currently in Kuwait filming as a guest on the Swar Shuaib talkshow which will be airing its first episode of the new season in February. Lindsay Lohan along with Tara Reid are at the top of my “Celebrities I’d like to get plastered with” list so I’m kinda having a bit of FOMO here. Check out Shuaib’s instagram story on @sh3aib for behind the scene shots of his new season.

Lexy Stevens was in Kuwait

lexy

Super busty Lebanese/Australian model Lexy Stevens was in Kuwait this past weekend for the opening of a new restaurant called OVO Bar (not that OVO). I had never heard of her before but was flipping through her instagram account and two things came into my mind:

1) Damn
2) Kuwait is becoming more and more liberal

Back in August I posted about a rumor that porn star Mia Khalifa was in Kuwait and now I’m starting to think there probably was some truth to that. Anyway you can check out some photos (and a video) of Lexy Stevens in Kuwait on her instagram account [Here]

PS: The picture above is the most conservative I could find.
