Bombay TV Redux

Back in 2006 I posted about a website called Bombay TV where they have short video clips from Indian movies and they let you fill in the subtitles. Well they’ve updated their site now with a slightly better interface and added a ton of new videos to play around with. Holla was kind enough to do videos to post here, the one above has English subtitles and the one below has Arabic ones. If you want to make your own version click [Here]

Update: Here is my first try, click on the link to view it [Video]

Update 2: Here is another video done by my partner at work making fun out of Wataniya [Video]

Update 3: This one’s by K.thekuwaiti [Video]

Q8 Showroom now online

Q8 Showroom

Q8showroom.com is now launched although I think its still in trial stage since there are a lot of things that aren’t working right or not working at all. Some of the things also feel like they’ve just been ripped off from Q8car like the drop down list for the car models. In Q8car they have a mistake where they listed Range Rover as a brand on its own instead of it being under Land Rover, on Q8showroom they’ve made the exact same mistake. Even the “All Years” drop down list is a duplicate of Q8car’s.

Overall though the site is much better than Q8car’s but they still need to add a lot more cars to their database. What I want is an option to view larger pictures of the cars (like at least 640×480) and a better search function, maybe I’ll get that in the new Q8car redesigned website. Speaking of which, Q8car had a link up a week ago where you could get a preview of the new look but since then the link has disappeared.

Wheels for my Wrangler

Cragar

I am planning to lift my Wrangler and install larger 33″ tires on it. Late last month I got the tires which I expected would be the hardest thing to get until recently I realized getting new black steel wheels are even harder. I wanted either American Racing or Cragar black steel wheels. I found an American Racing dealer in Kuwait but they didn’t have anything I was interested in and if I wanted to place an order for wheels they would only be delivered in August or September. So I decided to check and see what I could find in Dubai, I gave Icon Auto a call and they didn’t have what I wanted either. The only option I had left was to order the wheels from the US and ship them to Kuwait but 5 steel tires would weigh a ton.

Each wheel weighs 12KG and five wheels would mean a total weight of 60KG. Shipping them with Aramex or USWS would cost me around KD200 which is a ridiculous amount to pay specially when my five wheels combined would cost me only KD50. Surprisingly though it turns out its a lot cheaper to have the stuff shipped directly from the supplier in the US to Kuwait. I just ended up ordering five Cragar 342’s (pictured above on the Wrangler) for $215 from Quadratec and shipping them to Kuwait will cost me only $353 with Fed Ex. Thats not really bad at all and I am extremely surprised. Once my wheels get here the third and final thing I need to do is order the lift kit.

Update: Added more pictures of the same rims on other Wranglers which you can check out by clicking on continue.

Abyat Preview

Today I passed by Abyat to get a sneak peek. They officially open on the 18th but I’ve got a friend who works there and he told me I could pass by any time to check it out. Although the store isn’t 100% complete yet I did leave feeling very impressed. Compared to Alghanim’s Platform, Abyat is exactly 3 times as big and so have a lot more items. I will be going back there for sure once they launch since I found a couple of items I needed. I took a bunch of shots which you can check out below by clicking on continue.

60 car pileup in the UAE

car accident UAE

I’ve heard of huge pileups like this before but I don’t think its ever happened in the Gulf before. Yesterday a major accident happened on the Dubai – Abu Dhabi highway. Weather conditions were foggy and slippery and people were still speeding so when the first accident occurred a chain reaction followed resulting in the huge 60 car pileup. They originally said it was a 200 car pileup but I guess that was just an original estimate. You can check out pictures and details on the accident [Here]

Philips LivingColors

LivingColors

I found this lamp at Sultan Center and its called LivingColors by Philips. The lamp can project light in over 16 million different colors in which you can control by a color wheel on a remote control. It looks really cool but I am still trying to figure out if its worth KD64. You can try it out at Sultan Center, they have a live one on display for you to play with. More information available on the Philips website. [Link]

Here is also a YouTube video of the light in action. [YouTube]

Whats the time?

Something weird happened to me today. I arrived to the office thinking it was 10AM and I was late but it turned out it was only 9 and that my phone, watch and car clock all were one hour ahead. It didn’t make any sense, how could three of my watches all be an hour ahead??? This is how it happened:

Phone Clock
I was in Fujaihrah last week and I moved my phone’s clock an hour ahead to match Fujaihrah time. When I got back I forgot to put the clock an hour back.

My Watch
I took off my watch Friday and left it on my dresser. My watch is an automatic meaning it works with hand movement and when you leave it still for 48 hours it stops. The clock must have stopped yesterday at 9PM because today morning when I put my watch on at around 8AM it was an hour ahead.

Car Clock
Yesterday morning I was working on my car stereo and disconnected it resetting the clock. When I plugged it back in at around 11AM the radio clock started at 12:00, an hour ahead.

Thats why my morning today got really confusing. When I thought my watch was wrong, both my car stereo and phone confirmed to me it was right. Everywhere I looked it was an hour ahead. What are the chances of something like this happening!

Borders opening in Kuwait?

Borders

I just read on another blog that the Borders bookstore is opening up at The Avenues. I hope this information is true. By the way is there anything that isn’t opening up at The Avenues? I don’t read a lot of books but I do read a lot of magazines and I find the lack of selection in Kuwait disappointing. I mean you have more magazines about surfing than you do on motorbikes, who’s the genius behind that? [Link]

I’m in brownbook!

in a magazine

Radiant Guy emailed me to tell me that my blog was mentioned in the new brownbook urban city guide on Kuwait. brownbook is an urban lifestyle magazine focusing on middle eastern lifestyle agendas, events and developments. The magazine is available internationally (even on Amazon) and the city guides should be available everywhere soon. This is what the article says about the blog:

This is a kind of strange selection for shopping, but when doing our research we found out that mark248am1.wpenginepowered.com offer an aerial perspective towards the shopping as well as the social development in Kuwait. With the blog constantly updated by Mark and Nat, a couple who are living in Kuwait offer an in depth perspective towards Kuwait.

248am.com

The brownbook magazine is very stylish and trendy and the guide is also designed beautifully so its a really cool thing that I am in it. I am also the only blog in there. Here is a larger scan of my page from the guide. [Picture]

Thanks Radiant Guy!

Cooking with Mark

Edamame in the pot

Last week I got a pack of frozen edamame from Sultan Center and tonight I decided to have it for dinner. As I mentioned previously the instructions for cooking the edamame are in Japanese but a lot of users helped me out by telling me how they prepare edamame.

I decided to boil some water in a large pot first. Once the water started boiling I dropped the edamame inside and let it boil for 6 minutes. I then removed the pot from the cooker and drained all the water. I placed the edamame in a large bowl and then sprayed a lot of salt all over it.

Edamame in the bowl

Result? Restaurant perfect. It tasted exactly like the edamame I have at Maki and Wasabi. The only problem is you need to eat them before they cool down and since Nat is in Beirut I had to eat the whole pack as quickly as I could before the edmame got cold. Took me 14 minutes to finish the whole pack and I think I’ve overdosed on the edamame, but it was worth it.

Does anyone know how I can make the spicy sauce Maki use with their fried edamame?
