I had seen a few adapters that convert the car lighter into a powered USB port but they were all ugly looking or too bulky. Then I read about the Belkin Micro USB adapter on Gizmodo and decided to order one from Amazon.

Because its tiny it fits perfectly into the car lighter without sticking out so it actually gives the impression that it came built in from the factory. I am currently using it to charge my iPhone and BlackBerry but you could use it to charge other devices. Very practical.

I posted before about Obama visiting a burger joint to pick up some burgers, well he did it again this time he picked up burgers for himself and his staff. The cool part is they drove into town in unmarked vehicles with a small entourage. Didn’t know he could do that. [Link]

Now that I finally have an iPhone with a 3G connection I can finally do what a lot of other people are doing and that is listen to satellite radio and other international stations in the car. All you need is a 3G capable iPhone, an iPhone radio app and a way of connecting the iPhone to the car stereo.

My setup is an iPhone 3GS with the WunderRadio app and an Alpine iDA-X001 head unit with which my iPhone connects to using the dock connector. If you aren’t as lucky you could use an FM Transmitter or RCA inputs. With WunderRadio you can connect to XM and SIRIUS stations in addition to thousands of other stations from around the world. For example I can listen to Lebanese radio stations like Radio one or Mix FM if I want to. Its not perfect since sometimes the connection disrupts for a few seconds every now and then but thats mostly only with the XM and SIRIUS stations, haven’t had trouble with the rest.

So I ordered the new iPhone the other day and I just ordered a cover for it. For my original iPhone I had the Incase protective cover but the problem with it was that it was too grippy. I couldn’t slide it in and out of my pocket because the cover was made from non slip rubber material. So, I just ordered the Incase slider case which is made of hardshell plastic which in theory should slip in and out of my pocket without any issues. They come in a variety of colors and for some reason I ended up ordering the florescent yellow one. Here is the link to the Incase website. [Link]

Some pictures from the Michael Jackson tribute that was held yesterday on the Marina Mall beach are up on the Facebook group. It seems the cops came and broke up the vigil because they thought it was witchcraft! I didn’t go but looking at the pictures I think it looked like a pretty cool and proper vigil. I just noticed Jazeera Airways have introduced a new pricing structure. If you want to take advantage of their lowest fare you now need to pay extra if you want to take any kind of luggage with you and if you want to choose your seats you also need to pay extra.

It seems some old pictures I scanned of my mum back when she was a flight attendant with Kuwait Airways in the 70s are being forwarded around by email as Kuwait Airways in the 70s with no credit to their original source (me!). I’ve posted a ton of times about Animal Friends and how they’re doing a fantastic job rescuing all these animals in Kuwait. The last time I posted about them was when they rescued the bear and it seems with that rescue they’ve gone and restructured and created a new organization. Animal Friends is now a subsidiary of Kuwait Society for the Protection of Animals and Their Habitat or in short, K’S PATH.

Animal Friends have been doing a lot more than they had originally set out to do which was rescuing dogs and cats so they’ve decided to clarify their programs and goals. Animal Friends League of Kuwait will continue as normal, rescuing animals, providing shelter, and making adoptions. All other issues, like farm animals, exotic animals, marine life and more will be handled by K’S PATH.

Although in most places around the world the BlackBerry is used as a business tool in Kuwait its become a social one. With all my friends practically owning one the built in BlackBerry Messenger is a perfect way to stay in contact with all of them through out the day and a much more efficient way to communicate quick messages. Google Latitude is another application that also helps in being more social by showing you where your friends are around the world at that moment. Basically how Latitude works is you need to install the application on your BlackBerry and then sign in using your gmail account and add other friends who also have Latitude installed. You will then be able to see them on the map like in the picture above.

Latitude has many useful uses, I personally use it to find friends nearby like if I am at the Avenues I check and see which one of my friends is there or like last week I was at Kinkos in Salmiya waiting for something to get printed and then I noticed on Latitude Marzouq was just down the street. Latitude also helped a friend get to a BBQ I was at. He didn’t have the address but since I was already at the BBQ he just looked for me on Latitude and then drove towards me.

But the software isn’t perfect, when you’re indoors the GPS usually doesn’t work so the software uses cell towers to estimate where you are. Sometimes for some odd reason Latitude thinks I am in London or a friend is randomly in Belgium or Pakistan. It doesn’t happen frequently but when it does it can be funny or annoying depending on the situation.

Latitude works on the following phones:
– Android-powered devices, such as the T-Mobile G1
– most color BlackBerry devices
– most Windows Mobile 5.0+ devices
– most Symbian S60 devices (Nokia smartphones)

Last month I reviewed the Smoke House burger and gave it the highest rating so far which is a 4.5 out of 5. Thing is I went back to Smoke House this weekend and had the burger again but noticed something was different. Other than the presentation the burger looked like it didn’t have the signature BBQ sauce that I thought made the burger the last time. I didn’t think of this much but I just read the post by SOME contrast on Smoke House and it seems I am not the only one who noticed the burger has changed. What the hell happened? Why would anyone mess with that burger?? I thought about changing the score but I am going to try the burger again next week and see if it was just a one time thing or a permanent change.
