I’ve been trying all morning to add my NBK debit card to my Apple Wallet but it didn’t work until just right now (around 3:30PM). I was able to add my credit card in the morning without a hitch but the debit card just wouldn’t work, every time I added it I’d never get the OTP code. Then while watching the video below by @talalalyagout I realized there is a way to add it through the bank app.

His video talks about his experience with his bank (which is AUB), but I checked my NBK app and I also found the option to add my card to the wallet through the app and it worked. So if you’re an NBK customer and had the same issue as me when adding the card and not getting an OTP, try adding the card to your wallet through the NBK app.

From my understanding, only 6 banks initially will have Apple Pay and they are:

AUB
Boubyan
CBK
Gulf Bank
KFH
NBK

If you’re ABK or Burgan Bank you’re out of luck for now. From the banks listed, it seems AUB, Boubyan and KFH were the earliest to get Apple Pay working today while NBK seems to be the last.

Whatever the case, finally, we now have Apple Pay in Kuwait.

The 12H HANKOOK KUWAIT race started at 12 PM today and will last till midnight. This is the first-ever international circuit racing event to be held in Kuwait so you probably don’t want to miss this important moment.

It’s a 12-hour endurance race which is why it’s going on till midnight, but the benefit of that is you can come by anytime during the day to chill in the grandstands and watch the race. It’s open to the public and tickets are 3KD. There are also food and coffee trucks as well as a kid’s area.

Thoubha is a local domestic abuse app created by the team behind @abolish153. The app is disguised to look like a fashion news streaming app that has a hidden menu button that takes you to resources covering domestic violence in Kuwait.

The domestic violence section in the Thoubha app contains documents covering the ABC’s of domestic violence in Kuwait, information on creating a safety plan, and other self-assessment documents. The application also has a live chat which is handled by volunteers that have been trained by heads of shelters and helpline centers to handle and deal with abuse survivors. Finally, the application also connects survivors with needed services such as life coaches, lawyers and medical professionals.

You’ve probably seen the MDL Beast ads on the roads around Kuwait, it’s taking place this weekend and is the biggest music festival in Saudi featuring over 200+ artists performing across 7 stages over a period of 3 days. It’s a crazy lineup with headliners like Bruno Mars, Post Malone and DJ Khaled but also favorites like Wizkid, Marshmello, David Guetta, Carl Cox, Solomun and DJ Snake.

One of those performing artists is Tamara, a local DJ who is also a full-time zoo veterinarian during the day. She’ll be playing a set on the second day (December 2nd) on stage Underground 3 at 4PM. If you’re heading to MDL Beast this weekend, keep an eye out for her.

I’ve been told that Chipotle is finally coming to Kuwait and it looks like Alshaya are the ones that could be bringing the brand.

I’ve been sitting on this news for a bit now waiting for a second source since I got this news wrong the first time back in 2013. That rumor never materialized so hopefully, this time around it will.

Chipotle for those who don’t know is an American Mexican grill chain specializing in bowls, tacos, and burritos made to order in front of the customer. Chipotle operates in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, and France.

I reached out to Alshaya to confirm this rumor but they did not want to comment on it.

“How I Got There” is a dramatic action thriller set in a colorful high energy version of modern Kuwait. I just watched the trailer and it looks pretty great and even stars Ron Perlman from the Hellboy movies.

The film is premiering next month at the Red Sea Int. Film Festival in Saudi Arabia and you can follow them on Instagram @howigotthere

Heineken’s 0.0 non-alcoholic beer is now available in Kuwait and Sultan Center has them for sale. I love the way the cases look stacked up because for just a second, it helps you visualize what a supermarket in Kuwait would look like if alcohol was actually legal. The price for a 6-pack is KD3.9 or 650 fils per bottle.

If you’re a fan of America’s Got Talent then you’ll probably be excited to know that the magician and illusionist Rob Lake is coming to perform in Kuwait next month.

I don’t watch America’s Got Talent and unless it’s David Blaine, I generally don’t care about illusionists. But, Rob was a featured act and quarter-finalist on season 13 of America’s Got Talent and is fairly popular so it’s pretty cool that JACC are bringing him to Kuwait to perform.

Rob has shows taking place from December 8 to December 10th and tickets start at 10KD and can be purchased directly from JACC. Link

The poster below is of the first-ever Kuwait International Book Fair that was held 47 years ago in Kuwait back in November of 1975 (source). The current book fair taking place at the Fair Grounds is #45 and I passed by it last week to check it out.

This year the event looks a lot better than before since the standard booths seem nicer, or maybe they’ve changed the carpet but either way, it just looks visually better overall. There are English books but not many and isolated to a small corner in one of the halls. It’s still worth passing by and checking out especially since it’s going on for another 6 days.
