Door Knocking Bear

This is really funny, Animal experts in Croatia say a bear has learned how to trick people to let him in by knocking at the door. They believe the 35-stone brown bear probably learned the trick while nudging a door to get it to open. Experts speculate the nudging was mistaken by the owners for knocking and that the bear, pleased by the outcome, repeated the tactic. The Loknar family from Gerovo in western Croatia said the bear had knocked at their door three times and they were now refusing to answer the door. Mum Nevenka Loknar said: “We jumped out the window as he came in through the door and raided the kitchen the first time. “I opened the door and saw him standing there and I didn’t believe my eyes at first, then I ran for it as he walked in as if it was the most normal thing in the world. “Bears are a common thing in the woods around here, but no one has ever heard of a bear that knocks at the door. “The bear is so intelligent it’s incredible. We’ve tried to put up lots of obstacles to stop him coming in, like a wire fence but he still gets through. I wouldn’t be surprised if he knew how to use wire cutters.”

Funniest Scene Ever

I think the funniest scene I have ever watched is from Arrested Developement when the family is at the hospital emergency room waiting to see if Buster was ok after he got attacked by a seal and the doctor comes to them with news:

Lucille: How’s my son?
Doctor: He’s going to be all right.
Lindsay Funke: Finally some good news from this guy.
George Michael: There’s no other way to take that.
Doctor: That’s a great attitude. I got to tell you, if I was getting this news, I don’t know that I’d take it this well.
Lucille: But you said he was all right.
Doctor: Yes, he’s lost his left hand. So he’s going to be “all right.”
Lucille: [Jumping on the doctor] You son of a bitch! I hate this doctor!
Lindsay Funke: How do we keep getting this guy?
Michael: Mom, he’s a very literal man.
Doctor: Yes, that’s more the way I would take the news.

Write a Novel in 30 Days

Come October 1st I will sign up at the NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) website. Its a cool project where people will have 30 days to write a novel. I will sign up in October because thats when they will allow people to actually sign up for the challenge. Then, at midnight, on November 1, I will have to begin writing my novel with everyone else. The goal is to write a 50,000-word novel by midnight, on November 30th. 30 days to write a 50,000 word novel. Sounds like an interesting challenge and from now till then I have lots of time to think of something to write about, maybe base my novel on a true to life experience.. will have to see. [Link]

Million Dollar Baby

I watched a Million Dollar Baby last night. It was a really good movie but if I had known the ending was going to be so sad I wouldn’t have watched it. I also understand now why people were saying the title of the movie was so terrible. I also got to watch LA Confidential yesterday. I had watched it when it first came out as a cinema copy video and I remember getting bored half way and turning it off. Yesterday I watched it all over again and I liked it a lot. The coolest part was that the mob boss Mickey was played by Paul Guilfoyle, the police captain on CSI. Speaking of which, the first episode of CSI NY will be on August 22nd on TV Land.

HotBot

My favorite search engine in the late 90s was HotBot. I even had an @HotBot.com email address until they got taken over by Lycos and all the emails got shut down. So every now and then I check HotBot.com to see if anything has changed and I try the search engine to see if they updated it and the answer was always no. So to my surprise I checked HotBot.com over the weekend and it turns out they finally updated. HotBot now uses Google and AskJeeves for its searches but whats cool about HotBot is you can customize your own start page.. visually. You can have it basically looking anyway you want or you can use some preset themes they have provided for you. You even have a lot of options on how you want to results to be displayed on the page. Its a pretty cool update and I’m going to start using HotBot a lot more often now. [Link]

SLK with SLR Engine

SLK SLR

K sent me a link last week about Mohammed Ben Sulayem’s Mercedes SLK that was fitted with an SLR engine. It seemed a bit like too much BS and it was causing the same BS feelings in various forums. Today K sent me a link with details on this extreme makeover and it turns out this is a real car and it really is an SLK with an SLR engine. Check it out. [Link]

Symphony OS

Never in my life have I ever wanted to try Linux as much as i want to know. Symphony OS is a Desktop computer operating system based on Debian GNU/Linux and Knoppix GNU/Linux. Rather than using the KDE or Gnome Desktop environments as most Linux distributions do, the Symphony OS team created the revolutionary Mezzo Desktop environment. Symphony provides what is consider to be the easiest to use Linux experience there is. [Link]

What Everyone Should Know About Blog Depression

This is a link to a 6 page pamphlet meant as a public service to help educate bloggers about this growing problem of blog depression:

There is a growing epidemic in the cyberworld. a scourge which causes more suffering with each passing day. as blogging has exploded and, under the stewardship of the veterans, the form has matured more and more bloggers are finding themselves disillusioned, dissatisfied, taking long breaks, and in many cases simply closing up shop. this debilitating scourge ebbs and flows but there is hardly a blogger among us who has not felt it’s dark touch. we’re speaking, of course, about blog depression. Commando Fans (Yeah the movie)

This site is crazy, I can’t believe there are actual hardcore fans of the movie Commando. It did bring some nice flashbacks of the movie though, I found this quote which I still remember from the movie:

Matrix: Remember, Sully, when I promised to kill you last?
Sully: That’s right, Matrix. You did.
Matrix: I lied.

Now I am going to go look for a Cobra fan site.. [Link]
